Guest guest Posted November 7, 2001 Report Share Posted November 7, 2001 This happened to me 4 years ago I thought it was horrible, worse than the disease mainly because I had noe symptoms. I can tell you though, when I took a lower dose of prednisone it went away almost as fast aas it came, Hang in there. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Think of it this way, You have an excuse. Lucy. I must add, Don't try any over the counter meds for it. I also don't wear face makeup such as powder of foundation or concealer. It was really bad on my forehead. I tell you what worked in my case was I switched to Kay's cleansing bar for the face and their normal to dry moisturizer. Within about 1 week I noticed marked improvement. For my other skin I use Aveeno lotion which also has worked very well. Good luck. It worked miracles. Within a month, strangers were commenting on my "beautiful skin." This would not be a solution for acne; I mention it only for those of us who are dealing with thinning skin. She also suggested I use an over-the-counter very inexpensive cleanser called "Aquanil Lotion." In the U.S., I think it costs about $6 for 16 ounces, perhaps a year's worth! I'd tried Clinique, Chanel, the works. This cleanser can be wiped or rinsed off. I wouldn't use anything else now. I haven't lost a pound of the 40 pounds I gained in six weeks, though. To be honest, I haven't been dieting carefully, either; it just doesn't seem worth it for now. I've given in and bought baggy, pretty, comfortable clothes and bigger shoes and underwear. I am concerned about the dangers inherent in obesity, and I will make an effort to lose, but right now I feel too tired to deal with a serious diet -- I never tried to lose weight before Prednisone and I hardly know where to start. Sometimes they don't realise how much the physical things affect you, so they don't offer anything for them, but if you make it a point, and that its really getting you down then they should take notice, and give you some lotions etc to try. I haven't heard of that big a drog at a time. Peggy I dropped in 10 mg increments from 80 mg (in May 2000) until I got down to 30 mg. Below 30 mg, reductions were in 5 mg and then 2.5 increments. I'm starting it tonight and we'll see how it goes. He also reduced my prednisone another 10mg, so now I'm down to 10. I hope I can get off the stuff and stay off!!!! Thanks again Everyone!! About a year and a half ago, I started using Kay skincare products for oily skin. The deep cleanser, blemish control toner, oil control lotion and acne treatment gel. So far I'm pretty lucky. The doc started me at 40 and my numbers came down almost to normal within 2 weeks so now I'm down to 10. But I know what you mean about that weight. I just had a baby in May and had just gotten back into my old clothes when I started on prednisone. I'm scared to go buy clothes because I have a feeling I'm not done "growing"!!! Then 2 weeks later I went from 30 to 20 and 6 days later I'm down to 10. Actually just dropped to 10 today. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well. Thanks Bethanne AIH 9/01 Tea Tree Oil is a common component, in the last ten years, in shampoos, soaps, etc. Poke around anywhere you'd ordinarily buy those things, other than the supermarket. Health food stores, bath supply stores, hair salons often carry it. The finished products vary widely in the percentage of tea tree oil they contain. Incidentally, last week my doctor told me to take an extremely high dose of Motrin for two weeks for an achey jaw -- TMJ or TJM, I can't remember which. After one day on Motrin, I visited my dentist and decided not to continue the drug. Last night I found Motrin on a list of 23 hepatotoxic drugs -- the possible liver disorder being acute hepatitis.
