Guest guest
This is from Ginger in SC to all members. Please join me in prayer this day for my dear friend and neighbor, Randall, Who at this minute at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA is about to receive a partial liver from a friend from her church. The gift of life from a non-related donor. has PBC and was DX about 6-7 years ago. Her friend, Kathy, stepped up to the plate in August, 2000, when she realized no one in 's family would be able to make the living donation. The attached is from the husband of the donor's husband, Phil: 10:00pm, Monday.... We are all in Atlanta. and Kathy had their pre-op workups done this afternoon with no problems. We all met with the lead-surgeon, Dr. Tom Heffron, for any last minute questions/comments. Dr Heffron is pleased with all test results and the surgery is set for tomorrow. Kathy and will be at the hospital @ 6:00am in the morning (Tuesday). Kathy will be prepped first with her surgery beginning 7:30-8:00. Her surgery should be complete 12:00 noon - 1:00pm. will probably be prepped 10:00am-11:00am with her surgery beginning approx 1:00pm. Her surgery should last till approx 5:00-6:00 pm. (all times are approximate and could vary as much as minus 2 hours to plus 4-6 hours). I will update as soon as possible tomorrow. We all feel the prayers and support and know we are in God's care. Thank-you for your love and support. Kathy, , Phil

Guest guest
4:30 pm, Wednesday--- Our girls continue to make excellent progress. is awake, alert and doing fine. They removed her breathing tube and of course she is TALKING! This is her first hospital experience and she was really apprehensive, but she has been a trooper. All the wires, tubes, etc were a bit intimidating at first, but now she is getting used to them. They are keeping her pain to a minimum and her appearance inproves each time I get to see her. Her dad and sister are here with her. She is excited about dinner tonight...they told her perhaps she will get some ice chips (of course, that will be all. She can not yet take anything by mouth.) Kathy continues to improve. She sat in a chair for an hour and a half today. That was her first time out of bed. She still can't have anything by mouth either and she really wants a glass of water. She get 1mg per hour of morphine for pain. Its not enough to suppress all the pain, just make it tolorable. Hopefully she will be moved out of ICU tomorrow and allowed to start taking clear liquids. Guest guest
4:00pm, Thursday-- It's been a pretty busy day for the girls. Kathy got up twice today to sit in a chair. This morning the Doctor allowed the nurse to take her to 's room for a visit. This was the first time they had seen each other since the surgery. They were both excited to see each other, and confirm to themselves that the other was ok. again sincerely thanked Kathy. Both were exhausted after the visit ( I suspect from the release of so very much pent-up emotion for each other's well-being). The Doctor elected to keep Kathy in ICU one more night. He assured us it was simply a precaution and not resulting from any type problem. The girls have one dedicated nurse each in ICU and Dr. Heffron likes that. We expect Kathy to be moved to the transplant wing tomorrow (Friday). We are not sure about when will move out of ICU, but I would not be surprised if they moved her Sunday or Monday (just my guess and not based on the Doctor's comments). had several tubes removed today and she is happy about that. It is almost impossible to get comfortable with so many wires, tubes, etc. Both girls had jello, broth and juice for lunch, although neither has much of an appetite yet. Kathy has some pain, but no more than she expected. As reported earlier, they don't want to give her so much pain-reliever to cover all the pain. says she is more uncomfortable than in pain. We got a call from Cheryl McCullough in West Virginia today. She was the second adult -to-adult, non-related, living, liver donor in the US. She donated to Randy, her husband. Her call just made my day! She was telling me what the girls can expect and also how wonderful she and her husband have done. I recommend everyone get a copy of the January 15 "Family Circle Magazine" to read their story. She is such a remarkable, up-beat person. I can't wait till Kathy and can talk to her. Again, thank-you to all for your prayers, concern and love. With God's help and love, you have made this the most remarkable experience of our lives. Kathy and (and me too) send all their love. Guest guest
I have forgotten to post some of the transplant updates from Emory Hosp. in Atlanta(or as we call it: Hotlanta). What a blessed holiday they will have! As for me, my house was broken into late yesterday afternoon while I was taking the mandatory nap so that I could get through the evening. I am fine but they have not ID'd the man yet. Nothing taken, no one hurt. In fact I think he was more scared than I after my yells; followed by locking myself through three rooms with the cell phone. I, too, am blessed and damn well know it. Ginger (SC) 9:00 pm Saturday--- Both girls are doing fine. Kathy was discharged from the hospital today and we will be at the below address and phone number for the next two weeks: Kathy Hodge Mason Guest House Room # 15 1555 Shoup Ct. She will stay with her sister, Debra, for approx 4 weeks after leaving the hospital. We will send that address and phone number later. Please tell everyone at church tomorrow how much we miss and love them. Phil, Kathy,
