Alternative to chlorinated pools?

I don't know if this question is beyond the scope of this forum, but

we are interested in getting an above ground pool for the summer, and

I was wondering if there was a safe and effective alternative to using

chlorine in managing the pool water? I read up on something that uses

an ionization of different minerals like silver, copper and a few

others, but I read in this forum that silver and copper supplements

are bad for our health. Would anybody have any suggestions?
