Gracia,

I have read a lot about adrenal problems. I have the stop the thyroid

madness book. I have to say that I would probably prefer what Sue is

doing with the Schwarzbein (sp?) program because everything I am

reading otherwise is telling me that I will probably have weight gain

and water retention using hydrocortisone etc. which I have enormously

right now and there is NO WAY being 5'2 " that I am going to weigh more

than I do already....162# when I used to weight 125. I won't do it.

I know I will become depressed and what good will that do me. I know

I will be impossible to live with also. SO, I am going to look into

this program that Sue is doing. Sounds healthier to me also.

I do not like what I am reading in Janie's book and to tell you the

truth, I am on the adrenal group and they are all doing cortisone,

isocort etc and I do not think any of them are doing well. Go and

read the posts at NaturalthyroidhormonesADRENAL . I

realize those that post there are going to me the ones who are sick

but when I asked how many were doing well, I only got 3 replies. Not

good odds to me.

Venizia, she has a few books out, many think ³the Program² is easiest to

follow but if you get ³the Scwhwarzbein Principle II² <--must be II then

she go in depth in to adrenal fatigue and insulin resistance and then

covers thyroid and female hormones and then goes into the proper regimen

based on your category.

She does ³warn² that you won¹t lose weight UNTIL you first get healthy ‹

anyone can starve themselves for awhile and get quick weight loss but she is

into total and continuous healing.

I lost 2 lbs so far but she says not to expect to lose weight for possibly

six months until you are strong and healthy enough to exercise properly and

are eating enough fiber, carbs and protein with healthy fats.

I realize I would not lose any weight. I was told that by my doctor

also. He said that would be the last thing I would notice. The first

would be having more energy. I am so glad to have found another

option. Your doctor is following her protocol, don't know if I will

find one here in Wisconsin. I was given the name of two women

naturopaths that sound promising though.

I think I read in a post today that Armour can cause adrenal fatigue.

I want to look in that more also. A lot of the people on the adrenal

group take Armour....wouldn't that me something.

Thanks Sue,

HI Venizia,

Schwarzbein says that armour taxes the adrenals by releasing adrenaline it

is a rever-upper and if you are adrenal fatigued, it can make you feel

worse.

But yep, your doc is on the money with the no weight loss until you get

healthy so kudos to him!

I love a good gingerbread, I love just about anything foodwise. I looked

horrible in my 30s--very swollen up. A few times I have been anorexic but

always the puffy face. 30 wasted years. I was a chubby child though.

cortef=HC they are the same thing.

Gracia

Well, I am glad to hear that if the other does not pan out. I am

going to ask on the adrenal group about cortef. They do not mention

it. It seems they mostly use HC.

I could only tolerate 90mg Armour for a few years. I thought that was all I

needed. then I started going backwards, getting weak, no stamina, sleep probs

etc. A doc told me to take cortef 3X a day and that just didn't work so I quit.

a year later I tried again only I used 5mg 4X a day last dose at bedtime. it

worked just great. In one week I increased Armour to 4 grains and also

increased estradiol. I finally felt wonderful.

Gracia

That¹s a good way of putting it < correct < cuz if your adrenals are

non-functioning and you put in a substance that releases adrenaline it will

over-tax your already beat adrenals.

My mistake, thanks for clearing that up!

Yeah food is my weakness. I wish I had the money to eat healthier and the

family who wants to go there. For now I'm just dreaming that all happens. I

wondered if you were ever big because if you were then I could have some

hope after getting my adrenals fixed. I can't get past the 140 mark for the

life of me. I have this 6 month pregnant belly that erks the crap out of me

That's where 89% of my extra weight is. Oh and my double chin, that's

hereditary. All my skinny kids have one too.

Hi Gracia,

I agree with some things you say, once you made a statement " it's called

an endocrine SYSTEM for a reason " and I thought that was so right on, I

believe all hormones must be balanced in both men and women for the best

results. I don't agree in any shape or form that going from 1.5 grains

to 4 grains in a week is a good idea by any stretch. The father of

dissected thyroid that treated thyroid patients for almost 50 years,

Dr. Broda , cautions against this time and time again in his

books, so do other authors in books. There is an extreme real risk of

heart attack from doing this, and STTM warns against this as well in

many places in their web site.

Gracia,

I have read a lot about adrenal problems. I have the stop the thyroid

doing with the Schwarzbein (sp?) program because everything I am

right now and there is NO WAY being 5'2 " that I am going to weigh more

I know I will become depressed and what good will that do me. I know

I will be impossible to live with also. SO, I am going to look into

this program that Sue is doing. Sounds healthier to me also.

I do not like what I am reading in Janie's book and to tell you the

truth, I am on the adrenal group and they are all doing cortisone,

isocort etc and I do not think any of them are doing well. Go and

read the posts at NaturalthyroidhormonesADRENAL . I

Hi Venezia!

I'm on the Adrenals group and I am doing GREAT on Isocort. It made such a

huge difference, I can't even begin to describe. No more brain fog, swishy

head. My brain function has returned, along with physical stamina. I can

spend two days at an amusement park without paying for it for weeks. I just

started riding my bike again after 6 months. My yoga sessions are strong

and relaxing.

Ramping up brought up some strange head sensations, but I've experienced

nothing but positive results from Isocort.

.... And I've not gained a pound on Isocort.

take care,

~

I am on the adrenal group and they are all doing cortisone, isocort etc and

I do not think any of them are doing well.

Looks like we are all a bunch of midgets. Gracia were you ever overweight?

I'm 5'1 and about 147 okay okay 150 (stupid ginger bread). I want to be

around 120-125. I'm looking into adrenals now

This is encouraging. As I mentioned when I asked on the adrenal group

I only received about 3 responses. I realize that one is only going

to post if they are not feeling well, hence, hearing all the bad news.

I realize that. It is good to hear isocort is working for you because

that is one I am considering. I have also heard that it is not enough

for some people. May I ask did you do the 24 hrs saliva test and how

bad were your numbers? Also, I a may ask, how much do you take?

Thanks so much for responding!

Hi Venezia ~

Yes, I did the cortisol saliva test and it showed early Stage 5.

I started Isocort according to the ramp-up schedule in the files of the

adrenal group: 2.5mg for 3 days, etc. I didn't have any problems, but

there were times when symptoms got worse, especially the spacey/woozy head,

but that went away totally when I got to 20mg. Following the temperature

graphing per www.drrind.com, I found my optimal dose at 35mg. I stress dose

when needed (like now, I'm a little shaky). I found a 3 hour schedule was

more suitable for me than a 4-hour schedule.

Many on the adrenals list say Isocort isn't as strong as HC, and that each

pellet may not contain the 2.5mg cortisol the manufacturer states. I really

don't know, but I do know it worked. :)

take care,

~

They are correct. Isocort is dried adrenal glands from sheep, so the

hormone contents are not stringently controlled. When samples have been

assayed, they never even got close to 2.5 mg, so that may represent a

statistical upper bound, a " maximum. " :)

I think I take the dose that works 5mg 4X a day. maybe the other stuff I take

helps too, but mostly I notice ppl dosing wrong.

Gracia

shows how much I know. You seem to be doing much better on cortef

than they are on whatever dose they are taking of HC. Why is that?

hi Neil

I actually went to Broda in CO. he started me on Armour but I do not

know the dose. I just couldn't tolerate it and never went back.

increasing Armour from 90mg to 240 was a necessity for me once I treated

adrenals and got sex hormones. I was just so sick but increased according to

symptoms---no heart attack--just finally able to function.

Gracia
