I used to have a problem with really dry facial skin. A friend recommended

the oil cleansing method to me a couple years ago, I began that and I haven't

had a problem since and I still cleanse my face this way.

I have heard both good and bad experiences with this method, as you know we

are all different and will respond differently. I have never had any issues

with pores clogging or anything.

I also only use moisturizers with high percentages of butters vs oils,

glycerin, mineral oil and petroleum products. The butters( shea, mango, avocado)

do

my face a world of good.

I am new to this group and have a question.  I have REALLY dry skin on my face

and cant wear makeup or anything because of it, I never used to have dry skin

before but now I do for some reason.  Is there any was to reduce or get rid of

dry skin on my face??

Great suggestion Toni and on top of that I would add....

Drink more water. Flavor it a tad with lemon, orange, fresh ginger or something

like that.

Whatever it takes to get you to up take your fluids. Your skin will love you for

it and I'm living proof.

Also watch your caffeine intake that will dry out your skin.

And I so love my morning coffee.

I make a body butter with Shea, Cocoa and olive oil. I have a customer that has

dry skin and she swears by it for her face.

What you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow!!

Hello everyone!!

I hope someone can help me. I had my thyroid hormone checked and it was 3.5.

Is this high enough to need medicine? I am having symptoms but my doctor said

the level was fine. Maybe I need to change doctors? Thanks for your help.

I'm also new here and have been woefully neglectful in educating myself on

this disease. (Just kind of taking the medicine they gave me and waiting for

the good results.) Does anyone have a good web-site source of information

they've found particularly useful? And any thoughts on the use of soy in

one's diet? I've heard rumblings about its deficits with regard to

hypothyroidism, but nothing definitive. I've been eating vegan since last

Christmas and haven't dropped a single, blinkin' pound, but I wondered if

perhaps all the soy substitutes were sabotaging my efforts.

Best,

Annette.

Hi Tammy!

Welcome to our group!

The endocrinologist that my doctor sent me to told me that everyone who has a

TSH of 3.0 or above needs to be treated...unfortunately, many doctors choose to

'wait and watch'...watch the thyroid be destroyed in cases of Hashimotoes for

instance (this is what is prolific throughout my family). For example, my

youngest sister is trying to find a doctor who will treat her for her

thyroid...her doctor, with a TSH of 7.0, opted to 'wait and watch', rather than

treat her. She is having severe hypothyroid symptoms. Currently, the

endocrinology field is debating reducing the recommendation from 3.0 to 2.0, and

even considering lowering it to 1.0. Eighty per cent of the population without

a thyroid condition has a TSH of < or = 1.0.

I suggest you read Dr. Mark Starr's book, " Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic " ,

and if possible, ask your doctor to read it too. If the doctor will read it,

this could go a long way towards getting adequate thyroid treatment...it will

also help you to learn the things you need to know to support your case for

treatment. My doctor read it and it has made a world of difference for me, and

now, several of my family members as well...it seems all of my family members

who are also demonstrating hypoT symptoms and calling me or other family members

asking who my doctor is so they can go see her too after seeing how much I'm

improving...and they are getting treated and getting better.

HTH!

Welcome to our group Annette!

Regarding 'soy', from all of my research, I've found it highly recommended for

hypoTs to avoid any and all soy products as much as possible. Soy can interfere

with the thyroid hormones getting into our cells is my understanding.

Regarding weight loss, have you had your freeT4 and freeT3 checked? Also have

you been tested for TPOab antibodies and TgAb antibodies? You may have

Hashimotoes. The TgAb antibodies attack the conversion process of T4 (the

storage hormone) to T3 (the active working hormone). You didn't mention whether

you are on synthetic or natural thyroid replacement. If you have Hashimotoes

and are on synthetic, you would very possibly do better on the natural thyroid

as it has T3 (in addition to T2, T1 and calcitonin) so our bodies don't have to

rely entirely on conversion. There are several possible problems that can occur

in hypoTs with regard to conversion.

Annette,

If you are interested in using a natural thyroid hormone like naturethroid,

westhroid or Armour although with Armour many are finding since they changed the

formula they are getting hypo symptoms, I would go to the website

<stopthethyroidmadness.com> There is also a book by the same title that is

extremely helpful that you can find at Amazon for one.

Hi :

Thank you for the welcome and the web-site. I've printed it out and promised

myself to do an all out investigation this weekend.

One more question for the group: has anyone on this loop ever tried the

Gerson Therapy to cure thyroid disease?

Inquiring minds,

Annette.

Hi Annette!

I haven't, but I am reading 'Feeling Fat, Fuzzy, or Frazzled?' by

Shames, Md, and Karilee Shames, PhD, RN, right now. It specifically addresses

'recovery' of the thyroid, adrenals and gonads...identifying the primary gland

imbalance, correcting that imbalance, then re-evaluating to balance the next,

etc. I've just recommended it to one of the people I am advocating for and am

going to follow this books recommendations myself. I've come a long way, but

I'm still not fully recovered...

Regarding the 'all out investigation this weekend', I can tell you with no doubt

whatsoever, you are going to find that in one weekend, you are barely going to

touch the surface of what you really need to learn to regain your health and

your life. I started researching 3 years ago and at the beginning of September

of 2008, my research became very intense. My husband cooked all of the meals,

and did all of the dishes, cleaning etc. so that I could spend all of my waking

hours on my research in preparation of supporting my case at my doctor's

appointment in December...my doctor went along with what I presented her, ran

the tests that I requested and the results all came back matching my

expectations, so she then went along with my follow-up requests. I decided to

become the 'guinea pig' for myself and my family. I have had such dramatic

improvement that now many of my family (mom, aunts, brothers, etc.) have/are

switching to my doctor and asking me to go to the doctor with them and advocate

for them. My doctor is also open to reading the books, studies, etc. that I

present to her from my research, so this is also a plus. My family has

Hashimotoes and it is manifesting in many severe medical complications for

almost all of us on my Mom's side of the family.

I highly recommend that you read Dr. Mark Starr's book (I ended up buying 4 more

copies after I read it and it has more or less become required reading for all

of my family members that I'm advocating for--and my doctor read it, as well),

" Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic " to get a really good understanding of how

complex this medical condition really is, although you'll hear from many

'medical professionals', " oh, that's an easy one to fix! " It may be for some,

but for many of us, it's not. I initially bought this book because doctors in

the reviews recommended it for all hypoTs, all who suspected they were hypoT,

and all doctors treating hypoTs. Other reviewers said that their doctors gave

it to them, or recommended it to them, to read. In my opinion, it is an

absolute 'must read' for all of us diagnosed hypoT!

IMHO one reason to avoid all soy that you can is that you can't avoid it

if you buy food from the grocery store. I've seen info that 60% of the

food items there have soy in them, and not all of them tell you that

they do. IIRC TVP is made from soy and nothing else, but you don't see

soy mentioned.

Just for fun sometime put " soy toxins " into Google and read a few of the

half million or so links.

Unfortunately there is no cure for hypothyroidism, although you can find

a ton of " cures " for everything from hang nail to cancer on the internet

and elsewhere. If you're gullible enough and rich enough you could try

a ton of them; but you'll still have hypothyroidism. In case it isn't

obvious my position is to NOT feed the con artists.

Annette, believe me, if there were actually a Cure for hypothyroidism, it would

be VERY

well known. Anything that actually does what it is supposed to do for any

illness gets circulated very fast, and you wouldn't even have to wonder if

anyone used it. The news would be all over the place, not just on the website of

the one claiming it works.
