Guest guest
Careful with TSH being too low. A silent little thing may begin to happen. Calcium begins to raise in the cells; serum calcium begins to hover in high normal and 24hr urine testing will show huge amounts of calcium being leached from your bones and is peed out. You can be feeling just fine for years and never know until you end up with osteoporosis. Its happening to me right now. I had a DEXA scan and no signs of bone loss that god. I've been referred to a bone specialist that knows alot about calcium metabolism and the first thing she asked on the phone is if I had thyroid disease... I'm scheduled to see her in 2 weeks. Based on research I already know it's happening because I've lowered my TSH to .65. I don't feel hyper at all.... but studies show that calcium gets leached from the bone while hyperthyroid. I didn't have the high calcium at a higher TSH. Not sure what to do about this. ________________________________ From: venizia1948 <nelsonck@...> hypothyroidism Sent: Sunday, March 8, 2009 1:05:56 PM Subject: Re: Anxiety anyone ? Atul, I also will get anxiety feelings when my TSH gets as high as 3. I may also feel it as low as 2. I do not allow my doctor to let me get that high. I know my body and how I will react. I was detected with HT in NOV'08, and have been suffering from Anxiety since June last year. In Nov my TSH was 75. The doc put me on synthroid, but the pharmacist gave me a generic synthroid (not the original) one made Abbott Labs. I took it till the end of Dec, my TSH came down to 0.35 . That is so unbelievable ...75 to 0.53 in 45 days. SO I am guessing there must have been some mistake in measuring, but I assumed it was OK. In the mean time I was still having anxiety symptoms. Guest guest
Don't get me wrong I've had my TSH even lower without hyper symptoms... I just didn't know that calcium begins to purge. I was on Armour and this calcium issue first showed up. Now its happening with levoxyl and a low TSH. The only thing I was trying to work out was my T4 to T3 conversion and this calcium issue keeps showing up. I would have never been aware that I was losing so much calcium with low TSH if it weren't for RBC analysis and 24hr urinalysis. ________________________________ From: venizia1948 <nelsonck@...> hypothyroidism Sent: Sunday, March 8, 2009 1:51:37 PM Subject: Re: Anxiety anyone ? Guest guest
My TSH was .o13 and they lowered my dose three times. It is now.093 (range ..450-4.500) and I'm supposed to go see the doctor Monday (if the roads are not icy). My free T4 is .90 (range .61-1.76), Triiodothyronine, free, serum is 4.3 (high) (range 2.3-4.2). I'm down to 1 grain of Armour (60mgs). Guest guest
Any doctor would be able to arrange a 24hr urine test for calcium loss through quest diagnostics. Insurance pays for it. It will be clear as a bell if you have high calcium levels in your urine and whether you need a DEXA bone scan to see how long it's been going on. Serum levels of Calcium are highly regulated by the parathyroid gland so you may never find out you are losing huge amounts of calcium without a urinalysis or intercellular testing. ________________________________ From: Roni Molin <matchermaam@...> hypothyroidism Sent: Sunday, March 8, 2009 3:07:49 PM Subject: Re: Re: Anxiety anyone ? Guest guest
My FT3 is extremely high (Free T3 11.08 range 2.0 - 4.9). TSH is 0.012 (0.5 - 4.0) I have low bone density. Did the doc tell you why yours was high? i was on 3 grains of Armour but went down to 2 grains. He didn't mention a correlation between my osteo and my very high FT3. Maybe I should go to 1 grain. What do you think? The one recent study that is usually cited demonstrated that the TSH had to be suppressed below 0.1 for more than three months to cause measurable changes in bone calcium and cardiac proteins. A brief excursion near that range is not going to cause that kind of danger, although it can be uncomfortable. Also, the suppression test was based on synthetic T4 rather than Armour or T3. It is not clear that a low TSH from those other meds would be equally as dangerous. Chuck
Guest guest
I will let you know what the deal is with my high urine calcium levels as soon as I know if its not the TSH. The only change has been my lower TSH to .6 by using levoxyl with occasional cytomel. The last time I had the calcium issue was on Armour and a sub .1 TSH. ________________________________ From: Chuck B <gumboyaya@...> hypothyroidism ; HypothyroidManagement Sent: Sunday, March 8, 2009 5:36:14 PM Subject: Re: Re: Anxiety anyone ? , You wrote: > ... but studies show that calcium gets > leached from the bone while hyperthyroid. .. Guest guest
I'm inclined to implicate low vitamin D and low K2 since they rate limit the amount of bone that can be rebuilt by Osteoblasts. The osteoclasts work well without those vitamins but the osteoblasts cannot keep up and ostiopenia and/or osteoporosis result. Low and low normal testosterone will also cause osteoporosis. But, I'd hazard to guess that most doctors will test neither for vitamin D deficiency (or non-optimal vitamin D) nor low or low normal testosterone. I say low normal because the reference range is for 18-70 year olds. A 35 year old can be quite low for his age but still be within range for a 70 year old, and be considered " normal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteoblast Steve wrote: > Careful with TSH being too low. Guest guest
I have low vitamin D but when I take it my calcium spikes too high and I go hypo... figure that one out. I have megadosed vitamin K for a couple months recently. My growth hormone and testosterone are high normal I guess because of my working out. My parathyroid function is fine. Low TSH is the only factor I can link it to at this point. Guest guest
I can't prescribe for anyone. I can't even do it for myself. I guess you'll need to do some more research and see how you feel about the care you're getting. This is what I understand. Hence no hyper symptoms. Hope I am explaining it correctly. Maybe someone that can explain it better will help out. Guest guest
I have Medicare, and I don't think that pays for Naturopaths, even though in my state they are considered in the same category as MDs. The million dollar question! I have been to eight doctors. The one that has given me the most help and relief is a naturopath. She does seem to understand that TSH is NOT the only test to be done and she has no problem with me taking Armour. She also pretty much will go by how I feel. It took me over 20yrs and eight doctors to find this. I also feel better than I have in a very long time. She also helped me with my reverse T3 issue which two other doctors did not know what to do or felt it was not a problem. It was. Since she addressed it I am SOO much better. Guest guest
Yes, parathyroid function looks normal according to testing. ________________________________ From: venizia1948 <nelsonck@...> hypothyroidism Sent: Sunday, March 8, 2009 8:27:31 PM Subject: Re: Anxiety anyone ? , Have you had your parathyroid glands looked at? When my blood calcium was 10.2 my doctor thought I had a gland problem. Come to find out it was being drug induced by a diuretic I was taking. Once I reduced the amount of the diuretic, my numbers went down. I am so glad she did more blood tests before she was going to schedule me for surgery because my numbers kept changing with the changed dose of diuretic.... I took it when I needed it for extreme water retention. When I didn't need it as much my numbers went back to normal. That's when she realized it wasn't the parathyroid glands that was the problem. Very insightful of her and I am grateful that she thought to recheck because I am a singer and I heard that surgery can ruin vocal cords. I feel better now..It's so crazy as I explained before, I am all the time thinking , am I going to go crazy...I read on sttm website that low thyroid can cause paranoid schizophrenia, last friday...and till now I havent been able to get over it. So I read teh symptoms of schizoprenia, and it says hearing sounds and unreal voices. Evrytime I hear a sound thats unusual, I ask my wife did you hear that ?? When she says yes, I feel relieved, I am not yet schizophrenic....Just anxiety, OCD Thinking of taking Xanax for this. Guest guest
Two years ago I had a great deal of anxiety, sadness and fear. My rheumatologist gave me B12 shots, once a week for a few months. Those shots cleared up all the problems. Before resorting to a habit forming drug like xanax, I'd advise trying the B12 shots first. Guest guest
I have been taking 1000 mgs of magnesium for many months, and I believe it was instrumental in stopping the atrial fibrillation I had. Guest guest
The oxide form is debatably one of the crudest and most un-absorbable of magnesium. I've read as low as 10% absorbable. " Magnesium Oxide is nearly perfectly not absorbable. It is the cheapest form of magnesium and such is a cruel hoax by the manufacturer. " My understanding is that Magnesium maleate is the preferred form for fibro. I personally take the highly absorbable magnesium Glycinate. I also take a product called 'Natural Calm' which is a powder magnesium citrate. Keep in mind that if you are mag deficient you are likely potassium deficient too. I drink low sodium V8 for the potassium. ________________________________ From: Roni Molin <matchermaam@...> hypothyroidism Sent: Monday, March 9, 2009 2:08:20 PM Subject: Re: Re: Anxiety anyone ?
