Guest guest
Yes, I can relate. I feel like my med is not working. Just this month my period was a day early and very heavy. I have to take an extra dose of my antidepressant. I am so cold, achy, stressed, depressed, irritable, moody,... I wonder if the med is strong enough during that time, cuz otherwise, I feel fine. I am 37 years old. I sometimes wonder if I am starting perimenopause stage or what. I take levothyroxine 125. But for the last 2 months I have taken samples of levoxly. I wonder did that change my period and every thing else. sandra yasmingucci2001 <yasmingucci2001@...> wrote: Hi All This time round i came on my periods, firstly I was 3 days late, which is not me at all and then secondly, I have had terrible symptoms. Guest guest
Yasmine, Hello! It seems like you have that, " Heavy Headedness syndrome " that a lot of us get from being hypo. Also, I have heavy periods, and somewhat bad PMS at times as well. It is your hormones. You must get them checked, and balanced, along with your thyroid. The herbs will help, but are not a total cureall. Until you get them balanced, use some adrenal herbs from the Whole Foods store for women. I've used them, and they can be very benefical. Many blessings....... Guest guest
Chuck - I'd like to form a question about this but I don't know where to begin. You recently helped me by suggesting that I split my Cytomel (25 mcg prescribed, but I don't seem to get beyond 12 l/2 mcg (i'm splitting the pill into quarters). Along with that I take 100 mcg of Synthroid. Okay? Now, my last blood work is shown below- 10/10/06 - AFTER 32 hours WITHOUT any thyroid meds (I usually, before your advice, took my meds A.M. only - about 7 ish) as my blood test was late afternoon. Okay? Tsh 0.016 norm .350 to 5.500 Free, Direct T4 0.96 norm .61 to 1.76 Free, Serum T3 2.9 norm 2.3 to 4.2 I am a 58 yr old woman diagnosed hypo 4 yrs ago, but was hyper in my 20's and medicated for about 18 months - declared " cured " and told to have my primary watch my thyroid as it was inevitable it would go hypo in later life. Voila - it did, but I got these numbers above in my blood work on only 100MCG Synthroid and the 12 l/2 mcg Cytomel. Should I too be at 200 mcg at least? I am 40 lbs overweight, have very painful joints and muscles, puffy face and eyes and a tendency towards fluid. My energy level has increased since adding the Cytomel in March. I just got concerned that maybe I'm not in the right place given your comment that an adult woman should be at 200mcg. Which tests besides blood work would one have to prove any continuing function of the thyroid? Thanks for any advice. Dusty (P.S. It appears to be familial and not Hashimoto's thyroid - my father, both of his surviving brothers, me, my sister, two of my first cousins all have hypo (all these on my paternal side). I was the only one diagnosed with hyper first. One first cousin has adrenal tumors. We must be really weak specimen's!!!!) Guest guest
Dusty, Sorry, the manufacturers' recommended full replacement dose was for levothyroxine ONLY. Adding Cytomel changes things. Cytomel (T3) is complementary to your Synthroid (T4), since the T4 is metabolized into T3 in your body. Thus, if you take T3, you need to take a correspondingly smaller amount of T4. Plus, " full replacement dose " means the dose needed when your thyroid has quit completely. Yours may still be fighting, although the more common pattern with familial hypoT is a fairly rapid and complete shutdown. That's what my family all did, including me. As for the blood tests, taking Cytomel is notorious for artificially driving TSH down, and it won't change even with a 32 (or 48) hour hiatus. I would expect FT3 and FT4 to come down a bit in that period, FT3 especially. That seems to have happened. I don't recall the earlier exchange, but if we recommended you cut the Cytomel into parts, that might have been to minimize hyperT side effects while keeping the average dose up. Has your doctor checked your adrenals, especially with adrenal tumors in the family? The two systems do interact and can cause some of the same symptoms. Guest guest
Hi, my name is . Chuck, you may be right. I have been aching something terrible lately all over. I saw my doctor yesterday instead of the nurse practioner. He thinks I have a goiter but he also told me to start back on the levothyroxine until the tests are done and results are returned.. ( I havent seen him in about 2 years.) He is having a barium swallow done and a thyroid ultrasound. What is the big deal if I have a goiter? Chuck B <gumboyaya@...> wrote: Jane, You wrote: > ... Guest guest
Why would I not get enough iodine? I had been taking levothyroxine about a year and a half. 2 months ago the nurse practioner gave me samples of levoxyl. Did you STOP being sick when you went back? I think you may be on too low a dose, regardless of the brand name, and it's the timing that makes you think it is the brand. However, there are differences in the fillers and dyes in the different brands. We've listed those here before. Some people are allergic to the supposedly inert ingredients in one type or another. Guest guest
Lori, Have you checked into other hormonal imbalances? Thyroid can impact PMS symptoms, but usually you will have symptoms throughout the month. Have you had the full thyroid labs yet? You really do need to know your lab values before starting medication. I too had numbness and tingling I thought it was due to my botched epideral during birth of 4 th boy. However I went to a specialist and he gave me a long list of what could cause it. Thyroid was amoung them. So that is when I started self medicating with Armour and it disappeared when I got to a dose that was good for my body at the time. -- In hypothyroidism , " yasmingucci2001 " <yasmingucci2001@...> wrote: > > Hi All > > . ive suffered from> really bad pms for 4 years now after having an emergency c-section > with my little boy. > Ive been so bad that its worried me. Guest guest
Sherry, I saw my gyno today because I am exploring all options....maybe a hormonal imbalance? He ordered tests and also told my a hysterectomy was an option.....YIKES.....I have never had major surgery and could never afford to be without my pay check for 4-6 weeks and still not know if that was the complete problem. He ordered FSH and Free T4 and sensitive TSH testing. I hope that will give him and me a better picture. Thanks for responding! Have you had the full thyroid labs yet? You really do need to know your lab values before starting medication.
