Guest guest
Hello, My name is Jackie and I am new to this board. I recently had a benign tumor removed from the right side of my thyroid (along with the right half of the thyroid) because the tumor (or nodule they called it) was hyperfunctioning and causing me to be HYPERthyroid for a period of several months. Once they did pathology on the right half of the thyroid after removal they found Hashimotos which they suspect has been there for years. SO..I was probably first hypo, then went hyper when the tumor grew. I just never knew that I was hypo before. Needless to say, I am of course HYPO once again. My last TSH was 6.74 and I was started on 100 mcg of Synthroid. I have been on it a little over 2 weeks and still feel dreadful every day. Weight gain, fatigue, you name it, I feel it. Anyway, I noticed from this site that the TSH range is .3 to 3. My clinic is still quoting me the normal range of .5 to 5.0. In fact, using this range, they told me that my number of 6.74 was " slightly out of normal " . If the upper limit is really 3.0 then I am not " slightly " anything, nor do I feel " slightly " sick. I feel dreadful. Has anyone else noticed their clinic/doctor still using the old range and why would they do this? This whole thing has been an ordeal and I just want to feel better. By the way, the first week on the Synthroid was awesome and then BAM- feel dreadful again. What gives? Any help on the TSH range I would really appreciate. Guest guest
HI, My lab uses the ranges for TSH at 0.34-4.82 mcIU/mL. They aren't quite there yet....
