Guest guest
Chuck - or anybody in the know. I've read different views on osteoporosis and Synthroid (using can cause it and using won't cause it). I've even read that Synthroid exacerbates 'arthritis'. I have also read that estradiol and testosterone 'protect' bones - and wonder if using them wouldn't offset any negative effects of Synthroid? I take 112 mcg Synthroid and 12 l/2 mcg Cytomel daily - and also use estradiol patches as well as topical testosterone for hormone replacement therapy. I am having terrible bone pain, over and above usual aches and pains, - in knees, elbows, hands, ankles and shoulders. I am also having muscle spasms in body. THis extreme pain has just developed in last 4 to 6 weeks or so and I know of nothing I have changed or done which would cause this. Can 'osteoporosis " pain suddenly come upon one like this? I'm in a lot a pain and I HATE it when the docs look askance at me when I describe I'm having a bone and muscle pain attack!!! Can anyone explain this? I had a bone density done last spring and it showed an improvement in my bone density from the prior one of about 8 years ago - and that my exam was within normal limits for a woman of my age. As of last spring I had been on Synthroid for 4 years. My own endo has said I should take calcium even after he got this blood work done, shown below. It seems that my calcium intake looks fine - but maybe there's a finer tuned test?: ME LAB NORMS Glucose 83 65-99 BUN 16 5 -26 Creatinine, Serum 0.9 .05 to 1.5 Bun/Creat.Ratio 18 8 to 27 Sodium, Serum 137 135.to 148 Potassium, Serum 4.5 3.5 to 5.5 Chloride, Serum 102 96 to 109 Carb.
