There are other conditions that can either simulate hypoT or can induce

it. Adrenal and pituitary malfunctions are probably the most common. You

might have one of those.

Best of luck with your new doctor. Let us know how it turns out. I

especially like to hear about people feeling better.

Someone once told me that a disease of the connective tissue caused by a virus

also affects the thyroid and can shut it down. They told me that this is an

autoimmune disease . They said that sometimes this comes with warts on the

body.

Could that be true??? Are they right??? Is there such a thing?? Dauphine999

Don't know about this but I have had two terrible warts since I have

been hypoT and nothing will get rid of them.

RAI is Radio Active Iodine Therapy...it is a form of radiation they use to kill

your thyroid when you have a certain level of Graves (hyperthyroid). I wish I

never had it! I have never recovered from it! I went from being hyper to the

last 10 years suffering with hypothryoidism and just about all of the side

effects. My health is worse now then it was when I had Graves.

Hello ,

My name is Randolph. I feel as if you just reiterated the story of my

life. I like you was hyper, and now hypo because of that STUPID RADIOACTIVE

IODINE THING!!! It is the worst thing EVER. My hyper medicine made my symptoms

worse, and then I started treating myself, got off of the meds, got better, and

then listened to those idiots called Dr.'s, and got the dreaded treatment. From

thence, it has been HELL EVER SINCE!! What I will never be able to understand

is why would you destroy someone's vital organ, to supposedly control it, when

NONE OF THE MEDICINE ON THE MARKET WORKS!!! All I can do is pray, pray for us

all! I am finally seeing a new doc, who checked all of my hormone levels, and I

am now on Armour. We'll see how it goes. It's been a nightmare!! Good luck!

What are you taking for your hypo symptoms?

Blessings,

My son was diagnosed with severe Graves when he was 14 (he's 17 now). The

medication didn't work and I didn't want him to have RAI after doing

research on it, so he underwent a partial thyroidectomy. He still has some

thyroid function and only takes .50 mg Synthroid. So, do you have a mixture

of hypo and hyper symptoms? My son seems to be doing very well. The only

thing he still complains about on occasion are his eyes (he has slight eye

bulge). He also takes vitamins for the eyes and calcium.

My mother was hypo after her pregnancies (3), but her thyroid tests all come

back normal now. I was just diagnosed hypo at the beginning of this year.

I started out on Synthroid, but then went to a different doc and convinced

him to start me on Armour. Now my hair is no longer falling out, the

arthritis in my hands is much better, and I just generally feel better - not

great, but better. The doc recently upped my Armour dose from 2 grains to 3

so hopefully I'll start feeling considerably better. <fingers crossed!>

Edie,

Thank you for your imput. How have you been doing on Armour? Have you lost

any weight? I haven't yet, but I do know that my doc needs to up my dosage. I

just started, and am only on one grain(60mg). I also need Adrenal support as

well, yet can't get anything else, until my labs come back. It sucks, yet it

seems like my new doc feels my present plight. I am just so ready to get back

to the old ME!! My thyroid got thrown off, because of a long history of adrenal

failure, yet didn't know the important significance of getting your hormones

checked! I wish that I did, because none of this would've happened! I think

that all women should have their hormones checked yearly starting in high

school. It is a preventative vice that would help soo many other future

problems!

share your lot in life! Helps to keep us sane!!!

As far as what I take for hypo symtoms...it is a crap shoot. I take 3 grains

of Armour, DHEA for adrenal support, Thyroid Energy which is a vitamin

supplement that contains iodine, Miatoke Mushroom supplement to maintain blood

sugar levels, Multi vitamin brand is Dr. Ringdorff...love them and liquid B12

for a boost.

I think this conflates several speculations. There are several viruses

in the HPV (human papilloma virus) family that cause warts. One in this

family can also infect connective tissue in the cervix and cause

cervical cancer. There has been recent news about a vaccine against this

one. However, viral infections are NOT autoimmune diseases, although

they may TRIGGER an autoimmune disease.

> Could that be true???

It could be true, but it is much safer to say nobody knows right now

exactly what triggers Hashimoto's thyroiditis, the autoimmune condition

commonly behind hypoT.

I lost about 40 pounds in six months on the low carb approach. That was

pretty magical. However, it then pretty much stopped cold. After a

couple more months I gave up in frustration. It took only four months to

gain it all back, even though I was trying to stick to small portions

and the usual recommendations for lots of exercise.
