Guest guest
You might see some improvement with Alvidar. Probably about the same you would see with a placebo IMHO. But the placebo would cost a lot less. 6a. Guest guest
I've had insomnia all my life [65] and someone here recommended 3 mg Melatonin. It helps a lot. Last December I started working again and had to get up every morning at 5:30 and would go to bed about 9:30 every night. During that time I slept like a baby. Now I've retired [again!] and stay up late so I don't go to sleep so rapidly, but since I started the Melatonin I no longer have the " wired, tired, can't sleep " feeling that I would often get. YMMV. IMHO for a hypothyroid condition Alvidar cannot possibly provide more than minimal or psychological help. But we're all different, despite our similarities. 6b. It contains mostly herbs like St. s Wart and Valerian Root. It could be just psychological but I must admit that i do feel better. It really has improved my ability in sleeping through the night. You know us Hypos, hava a hard time sleeping when we are supposed to instead of all morning or in the afternoon. I have lost about 4 pounds since I started it. We all know it is healthier to lose weight in smaller increments, so it has helped. My night time binge eating has stopped as well. I would recommend it. Guest guest
Same here... it was not until I started adrenal therapy that I tried Melatonin again and IT WORKED!!! I have to take clonopin to sleep everynight as I have constant pain. But even with that I could not fall asleep. The melatonin makes me sleepy!!! Yay!!! Something worked. Pamela p.s. it is full of excellent ingredients for your Immune System!!! <res075oh@...> wrote: I've had insomnia all my life [65] and someone here recommended 3 mg Melatonin. It helps a lot. Guest guest
This is from my personal experience. A bit about Melatonin. If you are prone to depression, it is a serontonin inhibitor which is the opposite of what depressed people need (serontonin uptake). The Valerian Root in the Alvidar is what I was given in Germany while in the hospital with a high risk pregnancy to get me to sleep due to the constant anxiety. The St s Wort in Alvidar works as an antidepressant. Many German Drs start depression treatment with St s Wort, vacation, and spa treatments. So maybe the Alvidar isn't working on the Thyroid but it is working on your mental health and sleep value. Guest guest
Okay; I'll play it straight. A placebo is a fake medical pill with no ingredients to correct any medical problem. They are used in medical tests where some people are given a placebo and others are given the medication under test. They are also sometimes given to a person a physician has decided is a hypochondriac. It's not unusual for up to 1/4 or 1/3 of the people receiving a placebo to have a positive result. 1d. Guest guest
Hi Christy I don't know about the science of your statement - but I take melatonin and it does not make me depressed - quite the contrary - I was extremely depressed and my combination of hormones has relieved it. Guest guest
HI Christy - actually you were saying that it is a serotonin inhibitor - this isn't true - If it depresses you that isn't the reason. Serotonin is a precursor of Melatonin - not an inhibitor. Where did you get this information from? See excerpt below from an online medical text. Please don't take offence - a lot of people read these posts and its important to get the information as correct as we can. If taking melatonin is making you depressed then maybe you don't have a deficiency in the first place and that's your body's way of coping with the excess. I have heard that some people do much better with Tryptophan to help sleep. Before I became Hypothyroid I used to use valerian and passionflower in a tincture - it worked great. I also found that Hypericum helped to take the edge of depression but it didn't cure it. Whereas I find that getting adequate T3 into my system completely takes care of my depression. kind regards, Kerry Melatonin: Synthesis, Secretion and Receptors The precursor to melatonin is serotonin, a neurotransmitter that itself is derived from the amino acid tryptophan. Within the pineal gland, serotonin is acetylated and then methylated to yield melatonin. <http://www.vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathphys/endocrine/otherendo/melat onin.gif> Re: ALVIDAR Well it's good that it works for you in that way. I do have a puffy face much of the time and I see that many here do. But, actually, that is a symptom of being hypo. My thought is that our bodies must somehow not utilize all of this synthetic hormone or there is more to this thyrotropin balance and uptake than most people are able to deal with. I am still cold, have thinning dry hair, dry skin, major fatigue, painful muscles, frequent repiratory infections.......all symptoms fo being hypo thyroid, but since that dern lab paper of tests looks ok.......they give me the further diagnosis of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. That seems to happen to many hypothyroid people. Something isn't right with that picture....you think? <chuckles> I may as well. Guest guest
Sandy, About a year ago I was looking into this product. I even went as far as to accept their free sample offer.....never used it. That was my decision. You can make up your own mine by going to a couple of website: Ripoffreport.com. Also the BBB ( Better Business Bureau of the mid south) and you can google " Thyrotril " Shomon's 2005. If you have trouble finding this you can go to About.com and put in her name. You may be able to find her report there. Good luck to you. Guest guest
I believe this was discussed here a few months back and the consensus was that it's a worthless snake oil concoction. The number of people reporting improvement will probably be close to those reporting improvement with a placebo.
