Chuck just wanted you to make sure that your well doesn't have naturally

occurring fluorides in large concentrations, which is the case in some areas. He

was not talking about additives.

He, who?

The fluoride here is naturally about as high as many places that use

additives.

About a century. They started adding fluoride to the towns that had

naturally low levels about 50 years ago.

Sorry, Chuck, it seemed to me that she was interpreting what you said to mean

additives, when it looked to me like you were talking about naturally occurring

fluorides. I will go back to lurking. My bad.

We are building a home here in Wisconsin and we will have a well. I am very

concerned

about fluoride possible being in the water. What can be done? We have to use

the water.

Also, I have a sulfite sensitivity and I heard on a radio program this weekend

that

Wisconsin wells have sulfur/ sulfites naturally. This is not good. Really, if

anyone knows

what can be done in this situation, I would love to hear it. I know I can have

the water

tested but then what?

I have a well and I am glad to have naturally occuring minerals in it. I am

sure the body uses it all, even flouride.

Can water filters take out the floride in the water?

You can put in a whole house filter system this would be a great time

to do it.

My town publishes the contents of our water in

the paper twice a year so everyone can see

just what they are drinking. Many places have this

information available if you ask. Think it has been know

a very long time, the issue is most people did not realize

it can be harmful.

There are companies that sell and install water softeners and water

conditioners. However, be aware that some of these companies use high

pressure salesmen who are more interested in a big sale than taking care

of your problem. If there's a problem in your area it's likely that

there will be companies available that your neighbors can recommend that

will do an honest job. I don't know if fluoride is one of the things

they can remove.

When a new well was drilled on my Pinecrest property the water came out

with a lot of sulfur. Another company then came out and installed some

kind of conditioner and there's not a hint of sulfur in the taste of the

water. I think the unit cost $3000. I don't know if the sulfur is

removed or what. That unit has functioned with no care or maintenance

at all for at least 3 or 4 years. Incidentally, I'm in Florida.

Luck,

things but not

fluoride or sulfur/sulfites

I will look into that. The only thing I've heard them talk about is a softener

system. I don't

think that is the same thing. Thanks for the info.

what I have never heard of is our own private wells having floride in

them naturnally..

Well, the gentleman used sulfur and sulfites in the same sentence and I asked my

husband

if I heard him right and he did say that it is in the ground water. I do want

to find out

more about this. Get it from other sources to make sure this guy knew what he

was

talking about.

Venezia,

I bought a Multipure sink filter ten years ago from an acquaintance

who had cancer. I asked her how she came to be selling this brand.

She said she had gotten the water report that the EPA (?) requires all

water providers above a certain size to provide and then went to NSF

(nsf.org)to find out what things in her water could best be gotten out

by what filter. They have lists of filters. She narrowed it down to

that one as being best for her water and found she could sell them as

well. That is a procedure each person needs to go through for their

own water supply.

If you are concerned about flouride and sulfites you should get your

water tested to find out what you have. I have not done a thorough

search but every place I have read says only reverse osmosis and

distillation will get out flouride.

You might want to consider an ozone based purification system to avoid

most of the chlorine. If you do use chlorine, NSF rated chlorine is

purer, though more expensive. It can be bought at swimming pool

supply stores and some home and gardening stores.

Water softening systems are, as you thought, not the same. They are

another way to corrupt your water and add more pollutants. Research

this yourself and you'll see.

Venizia,

You can drink bottled water. Those usually list mineral content on the

label.

Not all naturally occurring minerals are equal. Wells in Maine are often

full of radium, uranium, and thorium. You can get a water sample checked

by mail for about the cost of a month of iodine.

Activated charcoal only takes out a small percentage. Reverse osmosis,

distillation, or resin ion exchange systems will get it out, but those

are pretty expensive, and it is not clear that the result is really

healthier than what you started with.

I would go with bottled drinking water, if you have really high levels

in your tap water. Otherwise, Brita is good enough. The chlorinated

hydrocarbons are probably more of a concern.

Oh, I realize that. I do that now most of the time but I am wondering about

cooking with

it, washing with it. Boiling it is not going to get rid of it.
