We don't know how much to increase your meds. We all go to the Doctor for that.

Why don't you ask your doctor? He will tell you how much to take in the winter.

Everyone is different. Hope you feel better, Dauphine999

Ask my doctor, well you must be one of the lucky ones who has a

doctor that treats according to how you feel not lab work

Congrates I however do not so I will not be asking a doctor so that

What a shame. The people can't get a good doctor.I am lucky. I have no medical

insurance but I can still get some advice on how much meds to take. Fooling

around with meds is not a good idea. A professional has to be consulted. I do

have a hypothyroid condition. I had it since I was born. I didn't know it until

I got very sick. That was a few years ago. Now that I take the meds the doctor

told me to take I am almost normal. I also stopped the soy and feel much better.

I also stopped drinking diet soda and I feel better. I am not 100% but I can

stand it. What is good for me might not be good for you. We all are different.

Hope you feel better. Hope you can find a doctor that you can ask without paying

too much money. .Dauphine999

I gave up after 5 TSH worshipping doctors. Just went to one 2 weeks

ago, an osteopathic doctor. She said loud and clear " the tsh is the

national standard for thyroid testing " . I told her that the Ft4 and

Ft3 needs to be in the upper 1/3 of the range. Boy, did I get one cold

shoulder.LOL

I also stopped drinking pop, eating soya ,I also do not eat any junk food

,or meat, lots of other foods that have helped me with not gaining wt, as I

have Hashi's the only thing I have trouble with is getting my Cholestrol

lower ,my TSH is still elevated on 175 MG of Synthroid, and still get a bit

tired at times .

I have a friend that is hypo and he stopped taking all his meds ,I worry

about him often............ what happens to someone who stops taking their

meds he has been off meds for at least a year or longer ,he says he feels

alot better not taking meds ,and refuses to take medication and stopped

going to his Dr ,I have tried to take some sense into him but he will not

listen he says he is fone does anyone know of a website about this so I can

mail it to him ,to help him understand, that it is not a Good Thing for him

to do ( I telll him he is either going to get very very ill or die if does

this !

Dear tdtsjlmiller,

You might have more success getting other people on the list to respond

to your posts if you sign them. We don't need your real name, just a

handle.

Also, you asked a rather open ended question. If no one knows or no one

has experienced what you ask, often no one is going to respond. OTOH, if

you ask " What do you recommend for this ...? " or " What do you think

about this ...? " you might start a fight that could last for weeks. :)

Finally, you might allow more than one day before getting impatient. We

have seen lose messages for weeks. Many of us only check these

lists once a day, if that often.

I thought I saw an answer to your question from Chuck or Gracia -

apparently some people do need more in winter in cold climates and You

might also find that you are feeling worse if you are on T4 only.

am on Armour 240. Sorry if I am a little emotional, I don't know if

it is due to the change or frustration with posting and it not

showing up and then getting no answer. I am not sure if I am

overracting with my imbalance of hormones.

Sorry all.

Sorry I did not realize that I was not signing my stuff. Also I just

don't want to go back to the depression I have had no thyroid for 15

years and finally a year ago found out that if your being treated you

should feel normal and then another year to get a doctor that would

listen and help me adjust. So I was really well freaked about

feeling my symptoms coming back and I recalled that winter sometimes

needs a higher dose of meds. I am on Armour 240 mg.

Hi Dianna - I understand where you are coming from - but it is hard for

us to give an opinion when we don't know what else is going on in your

life - diet, stress etc.

How long have you been on 240mg? It is pretty classic to feel like you

are going backwards when a dose increase is overdue - this happened to

me a few times.

If you have no thyroid then you should just keep carefully increasing

your dose till you feel stably well - IMO it does not matter what is

normal for other people - what works for you is what is right.

so increase your dose. I wouldn't ask for doc's permission or go by TSH test.

I have found that iodine helps a real lot.

Hi ,

There is some evidence that lack of light during the early winter and

the resulting Seasonal Affective Disorder may decrease the activity of

the enzyme that converts T4 to T3. A better cure than taking more meds

might be to go outside more. Get light in your eyes. However, I could

see where the extra T3 might help some folks. More light might help

everyone with conversion, even in the summer. I don't know for sure, but

I try to go outside whenever I can take a break.

Signing with " " does just fine. However, your browser should also

have an " Account Settings " page that allows you to enter a name,

nickname, or part of a name. I personally would still prefer to see how

each poster would like to be addressed at the bottom of every message,

since we don't generally see the account setting name until we hit

" reply, " or look at the " from " address. In your case, my browser says

you have tdtsjlmiller as your account name.

Most under producing thyroids are on their way to complete failure,

usually in less than one year, although some may last for several years.

When there is a sudden " recovery, " it is more often a " last gasp " as the

gland tries its best to respond to the increasing TSH signals from the

pituitary.

In other words, you should plan on needing to increase your dose

periodically until you reach a stable, full-replacement dose. What that

is will vary for individuals, but it is probably much more than 240 mg,

unless you are very slight or very elderly.
