Chuck,

I am sure it is Hashi's.  I have been doing this dance for two decades now.

Taking the meds is job one for me.  I can't believe doctors dismiss this as

possible.  I will go back tomorrow morning and beg once again for my current

Internist to treat me as a Hashi's patient.

Are the antibodies tests useless now if the hair loss and enlarged neck have

subsided but I still have hyper symptoms?

Once you know you have Hashi's, the antibody tests do not tell you much. They do

indicate an active attack, but you know that from the TSH or FT3 anyway.

Okay, I am going to show my ignorance here...how exactly does the TSH and FT3

show this?

Antibodies attack thyroxine in the blood. This removes FT3 and raises

TSH. The usual way to cope is to increase your dose, which is what you

would do if TSH went up and FT3 went down anyway.

" Ignorant " or " ignorance " should not be a pejorative word. We are all

ignorant in some matters or fields. The more educated one is the more

one realizes the vastness of all knowledge, and thus one's ignorance.

It's an unavoidable human condition; and wears best when recognized.

Perhaps paradoxically the most ignorant appear to be those who " know

everything " ...

Nope; just a 67 year old observer of the human condition. And a reader

of thousands of books...
