Guest guest
Hi Abby, Welcome to the group. You mentioned 500 mg of ? Was it synthroid? That seems like a lot to start off with. Also, you might want natural armour, as it seems to do much much better for a lot of people on this group, at least for me it has. When I first started synthroid (before I was on armour) I had a terrible time. I gained a ton of weight, and all along my TSH fell into range. I was not fun. But, I did get pregnant on Synthoid, but gained a lot of weight. As far as an endo, it doen't really make a difference, they will still typically treat with synthroid. YOu might want to check out www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and look for a good doc in your area. Blessings, Abby <abbyberzinis@...> wrote: Hi all- I'm glad I found this group. I'm 27. After doing some internet research, I saw my low temps could be due to hypothyroidism. I had many of the other symptoms, but I really just thought being cold is just who I am! =) I also was just always tired (could barely keep my eyes open past 9pm, with 9 hours of sleep a night) and was slowly gaining weight. My blood pressure has always been low too (90/55-60). So I went to my doctor and asked for the test, even though I felt stupid doing so (not bc of the doctor, but just because I only went to the doctor just to get the test). I'm glad I did! I found out on Wednesday that my TSH is in the 12s. My doc started out with a 500 mcg for me and told me to come back in 6-8 weeks. I don't want to wait that long, because I want to continue trying to get pregnant, and don't want to harm any potential children. Should I just go ahead and schedule something in 4 weeks? She's my general practitioner...should I find myself an endocrinologist? I like her so I hate to ditch her, but I'm wondering if that would be a better move? Also, what was your initial experience when losing weight once taking medication? Sorry about the questions. Guest guest
hi Abby you are lucky to be getting healthy b4 getting PG. I was infertile from age 24 on b/c of no treatment. I guess yuo must mean 50mcg, not 500mcg of a T4 med. you will need to read lots to become an empowered patient, not a passive one. IMO endos are the worst, holistic docs the best, there are lists of docs on the net. http://www.thyroid.about.com http://www.helpmythyroid.com good books Hypothyroidism the Unsuspected Illness by Broda MD all books by Brownstein MD http://www.drbrownstein.com Gracia Hi all- I'm glad I found this group. I'm 27. My husband and I were just starting to try to have kids, so I was doing the whole charting thing. My waking up temps were low 96s and that concerned me a bit. Either way something is very wrong. Are you sure you have that number correct? It would be a toss up whether an endo would really be helpful, and the specialist would be more expensive. Guest guest
adequate thyroid hormones and iodine in the mother are essential for the unborn child to develop properly the actual developmental movement of the different organs around the fetal body is orchestrated by the thyroidal hormones mental alertness in the new baby is very dulled by a low iodine pregnancy the other problem is mercury amalgam fillings i know of several women who are regretting thier decision to have a child when they were in an unhealthy state, all sorts of problems with the children, and the need to look after the children will be lifelong my web page on 'iodine' in the index of http://tinyurl.com/2csa3 apart from thyroid hormones, medicine has nothing to offer thryoid problems expect being messed about the wrong way > > Hi all- > I'm glad I found this group. > > I'm 27. Guest guest
I would think it would be fine if you schedule the appt for 4 weeks. That should give you enough time to see if there are any changes. Roni Abby <abbyberzinis@...> wrote: Oh, and sorry, that is 50 mcg, not 500 mcg. The latest recommendation is to jump to a full replacement dose immediately, if there are no cardiac issues. My doctor started me at 75 mcg, and that was considered conservative at that time. You won't feel well until you get near the optimum dose, and 50 mcg is almost guaranteed not to be it. If your heart is healthy, find an excuse to get the next TSH test early. Guest guest
Yeah, 500 mcg is a lot different than 50 mcg. Ooops. Sorry about the confusion. Thanks all for your responses. I have started to check out the recommended website and I will just go ahead and schedule an appt at four weeks. Thanks for the encouragement to do so. I just don't want to be pushy, but it seems I do have a right to do so! > Hi all- > I'm glad I found this group. > > I'm 27.
