Guest guest
Roni, are you sure? I think some people react [feeling wise] to the T4, in which case you would be correct. But some people seem to react to the T3 [some even call it the " feel good " hormone], and for them I would suspect that the improvement might be much sooner; as the half life of T3 is less than a day. But I'll be the first to admit I have no personal knowledge of this; as I don't take T3... Just guessing based on some of the things I've read here. > > Re: dr. finally called > <hypothyroidism/message/33823;_ylc=X3oDMTJxMGVnNjk\ wBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzE0NTY2NARncnBzcElkAzE3MDkyNTEwODIEbXNnSWQDMzM4MjMEc2V\ jA2Rtc2cEc2xrA3Ztc2cEc3RpbWUDMTE5ODc5MTk3NQ--> > > > > Posted by: " Roni Molin " matchermaam@... > <mailto:matchermaam@...?Subject=%20Re%3A%20dr%2E%20finally%20called> > matchermaam <matchermaam> > > > Thu Dec 27, 2007 1:46 pm (PST) > > It usually takes about two weeks or so. Guest guest
I cannot, of course, speak for anyone but myself. After having taken Thyrolar and, only Thyrolar for many many years, some idiot endocrinologist decided to give me T4 only. Well, to say it didn't work would be a gross misunderstatement. My hair fell out, I was exhausted, I was freezing, my legs were hurting, I was exhausted and I was getting colds and infections, and these are only the things I can remember off the top of my head. When my internist did blood tests after I complained to him, he discovered that this fool had pushed me over into hyperT. For all I know these increased episodes of AFib started with that. My mother who was on thyrolar for years, was taken off, put on T4, given iodine and ended up with a thyroidectomy. A friend of mine was taken off Thyrolar and put onto T4 and practically went out of her mind. Her regular doctor figured out what the trouble was and put her back on Thyrolar. These are only a few of the stories of myself and other people of whom I am aware, I'm not trying to convince you of anything. If T4 works for you, great. I am just relating my experiences and what I know. The symptoms don't all seem to develop right away, but rather over time. Roni <res075oh@...> wrote: Roni, are you sure? Guest guest
Your are being " started " on 2 1/2 grains of Armour and are on 200mcg synthetic T3? Are you dropping the synthetic T3, or are you going to take both? If taking both, are you used to that much? With most of your thyroid gone, why is your doc worried about Hashi's and Iodine? If you have your adrenals in good shape again, or if you're taking care of low cortisol and low aldosterone you likely won't have an issue with it. It's an over the counter supp you can buy yourself...you know that. You asked how soon you'll feel alive? On Armour, dosed by symptoms? Probably a few hours after the Armour pills have melted under your tongue... If on Armour and synthetic T3 I don't know how long...and that's because sometimes the sythetics can block the natural hormones getting into the receptors...so you never know if and when the real hormones will get into your cells... I personally prefer doing it the way that works best, with the least muss and fuss, since I've had such incredibly excellent results doing it that way, but then again I don't have a thyroid and I was way over 100 pounds overweight (I'm 4ft 11 " ). If you go over to the thyroidless list, check out the photo section and look up my fotos. The scarey gross ones are me on synthetics, and the hot babe with the great melons is on Armour and other bioidenticals...dosed entirely by symptoms. Guest guest
yep, that's me.. no thyroid since 05..what's wierd though,I started with hashi's after my first child when i was 18, it took me 8yrs to get preg. with my second child then another 8yrs with my 3rd in 04. I had my thyroid removed in feb05 found out i was 16weeks preg with my 4th in sept of 05, strange thing with all 4 i had a period up to the day of delivery..tbe last 2 pregancies i was told that i wasn't ovulating and i was on BC pills.and there was no way i could be pregnant.(what do the doc's know HAHA)back on the armour.. I plan on starting the iodine in about 2wks..I want to let my body adjust to the armour first.. I still look like a circus freak and it's really starting to work on my self esteem, besides being physically exhausted the mental exhaustion is kicking in. I'm close to being 125lbs overwt and thats just over 2yrs.I've only been with my doc for the past yr.. we have come along way..she believes in me and my symptoms..i know it will take time all this didn't happen over night.. Guest guest
I wonder if your doctor just meant for you to take the Armour, not the extra T3. I would check that out, because all that T3, from the Armour and the BID sounds like a very large dose to me, and could impact your heart. Guest guest
As I stated in another post, I think you have to give this Armour a chance to work. You really can't expect it to work instantly. Another thing, in view of the renal problems you've had, I would go very slowly in instituting new drugs. My husband had endstage renal failure before his fatal heart attack, and it's no picnic. Guest guest
Gracia, I don't think you should tell someone to hurry and take a whole fistful of meds without knowing her medical condition. That is irresponsible and dangerous. Joy has renal problems, and needs to take it slower than perhaps you or someone else. If her kidneys shut down, it won't matter what she takes ever again. Guest guest
I will wait and introduce my meds slowly.. you are right the renal failure wasn't fun..I was 34 and the doctor ask me if I had my will made out. I went straight to the hospital from his office and was put on IV demadex and lost 40lbs of fluid in 48hrs.discharged and readmitted within 3hrs with low potassium and bradycardia.I know that physicians want to help and care for people, but sometimes they need to stop and look outside text book..I told them it was my thyroid and they kept popping diurectics in me.. I was on three different ones when I went into RF.. they even did a kidney bx,,which was normal..they wouldn't listen to me and adjust my thyroid med's or switch me to armour...I thank God everyday for letting my mom step in and say enough was enough and she switched endcrinologis for me.. Guest guest
It doesn't really matter what caused the Hashi's, the fact that it wasn't treated was the problem, that's always the problem with everyone who has it. If I were you I would not bother putting more stress on myself trying to figure out what is to blame. It is what it is at this point, and you have to go on from here no matter what is to blame. Look forward not backward. You are on your way to health, and let's all be happy for you, including you. Roni Joy <jwalker8869@...> wrote: thanks..I was googling hypo and the wilson syndrome.. Guest guest
I do not understand 20mg of cortisol in capsule form--is it time release? is it bioidentical? you should be getting 5mg spaced 4X a day. I have had blurred vision from too little Armour. I do not understand giving a thyroidless person so little Armour. This is not safe IMO. (Roni the kidneys need Armour too). The well ppl I know take 180--300mg Armour except for Sam who takes more. Gracia Hey Gracia.. I wanted 5.5grains of armour and she wouldn't go there .she made me start at 2.5,,I'm taking 20mg of cortisol in capsule form I asked Roni if there was anything I could add to it..what do you think the HA's and blurred vision is from?? I have a ton of questions.. but I need to get the little one's to bed.. I have 3red headed devils and 1 brownhair brown eyed angel..I have my work cut out for especially at bedtime..hope the armour kicks in Ha!ha! joy.. Guest guest
I have nothing against taking the Armour but it doesn't work instantaneously, and there needs to be some patience, at least a couple of weeks or so. Renal failure is quite different from nourishing the kidneys, and new medications (except for Armour) need to be taken slowly to make sure she doesn't go into renal shutdown again. I'm curious Gracia. Why are you so insistent that everybody takes what you take and does what you do? Why are you so insistent that everybody is the same? Guest guest
Listen, these are the things that work. I think sometimes that is not what we want to hear!!!! We are used to struggling and maybe we should continure in that mode? I quite disagree that this woman needs to continue to be undertreated, taking care of four kids, with no thyroid gland. acccchhhhhhh you are using the allopathic approach of using T4 meds. it is just not necessary. Guest guest
I do not agree that it takes at least a couple of weeks. For me it only took a couple of days to see relief begin to come. Even the weight loss began in the first week. I was having all kind's of symptoms from being under-dosed on synthroid right after delivery. Thank God for this group! I agree meds should be started slowly, but maybe not as little as 1/4 grain a week. I began too quickly on Armour and got heat palps (maybe that was due to adrenal's, although I've never treated those). I started on 3 grains. Quit that and started at 1 then went up a grain every week n a half. Right now I am on 3 grains and feel way better. I still have a bad memory though. cw -- Re: dr. finally called I have nothing against taking the Armour but it doesn't work instantaneously and there needs to be some patience, at least a couple of weeks or so. Guest guest
By your own words it wasn't instantaneous. You also don't have renal problems. Taking too much Armour too fast caused you to have heart palpatations (it's from the T3 in the Armour), so you see it is important to begin new regimens carefully and to know what you are doing. Guest guest
gracia, the cortisol is bioidentical, don't know about the time release.I was just told to take in the am.this is off the thryoid topic..but I have a 21month who is wide awake at the moment setting the chair next to me while I typing this..she usually goes to bed between 10-11 and sleeps till 730 lately she's being getting up at 1:30 and not going back to bed until 5-6 then up for good around 730. or she wakes screaming bloody murder but never completely wakes up so i set in the rocker next to her to make sure she doesn't hurt herself or I end up holding her..or driving until she goes back to sleep.. any suggestions??
