Neither

my husband nor I have

any allergies (that we know of), so we are completely ignorant on the

subject and desperately need help. My 15 year old daughter has what I

thought was a

cold, but now I believe to be an allergy. She started this past

Saturday with a runny nose that just won't quit. Plus, she has been

sneezing and her eyes are sometimes itchy. She has brought a pile of

tissues to school with her everyday, just to come home and say that she

ran out early in the day and had to resort to toilet paper. Yesterday

morning I gave her a Sudafed thinking that she had a cold. In the

afternoon she told me that the Sudafed made no difference. After

talking to a friend, I became convinced that she must have an allergy.

I ran into CVS last night and picked up some generic Claritin. There

was

another woman there looking for some of the same for her daughter. She

said that this area (northern VA) is terrible for allergies. She said that when

they

lived in NC, her daughter didn't have the allergy symptoms that she has

here. My daughter has never experienced this before either. She took

a 24 hour Claritin last night and it did nothing for her either. Her

nose is still running like a faucet. So, here is

my question......could anyone that suffers with allergies, tell me what

works for them as far as over the counter meds or anything

homeopathic? Would an antihistamine be likely to work if the Claritin

doesn't? She is so miserable. Also, how long can we expect her to be

suffering this way - all spring?

Frances

Hi Frances,

The fact that your daughter has allergy problems points to a

depressed immune system. It would be smart for her to be on a very

good diet plus supplements to build up her immune system. If she

doesn't have candida she can have a modified candida diet, which

includes some properly soaked grains, seeds, nuts & legumes and

minimal fruit (even healthy people should only have 2 fruit per day

with plenty of fats to slow the release of fructose into the system).

For more help with allergies see this article:

Any and all drugs and over the counter medicines are toxic/poisons

which will depress her immune system even further. Natural remedies

do not cause problems, for treatments see:

hi frances,

it's deanna - from the NOVA FNL list.

i'm so glad you posted to this group, bee wrote to you exactly what i

wanted to say but didn't have time.

i would like to add that i've been on this program for nearly a month

and haven't sneezed yet! i was suprised that you posted about pollen

b/c i didn't think it was allergy season yet!!! yes - i've been

outside and did notice the pollen everywhere - it just hasn't

bothered me.

- and i have suffered severly with saesonal allergies, particularly

to grass and tree pollen (tree is high now in this area). i did Rx

meds nearly all my life, shots for years and boxes of sudafed. i'm

anxious to see what happens during the grass and weed pollen season.

best of luck to your daughter!

I take Claritin D tho not on a regular basis, seems to work ok tho does

not work 100%, maybe more like 85% or so. That is acceptable tho since I do

not experience issues with it.

,

When I talk to my GP on Monday, I'm going to ask if I can try taking a nasal

spray like Astelin or Flonase in addition to Fexofenadine. I'm sure that will

help.

The management of my apartment complex mowed the lawn earlier today. I had the

A/C on with the windows closed, but could still smell the grass from inside.

Once 7am comes, I'm heading to the drugstore. LOL.

Hi ,

Have you tried Coricidin HBP? It works well for me and won't raise your blood

pressure.

Jackie,

Thanks. I'm going to discuss the possibility of adding an inhaler with my GP

tomorrow. If she agrees, I'll talk to my psychiatrist just to be on the safe

side. I also need to be careful that the inhaler I use doesn't induce manic

episodes which are a symptom of my bipolar. I have no idea if they can or not,

but it is always something I need to be aware of according to my psychiatrist.
