Guest guest
Hi Bee and all, I am suffering with horrible seasonal allergies right now, and pregnant. In your info about allergies, it says to take 200 mg vit b complex (divided) and up to 500 mg niacin if you can stand the flush. are these vitamin levels safe for pregnancy? On sites like webmd it states the recommended daily level of pantothenic acid for pregnant women as only 6 mg.... I imagine that since b vitamins are water soluble they will be excreted out and not affect the fetus? thanks, anna

You are correct that B vitamins are water soluble so any excess is eliminated by the body. If your allergies are affecting your nose and sinuses see this article: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/sinus4.php I believe that cod liver oil, vitamin C and the extra niacin are much more important for allergies than taking 200 mg vitamin B complex, in which case you only need to take 50 mg vitamin B complex twice a day. However you can still take 500 mg niacin in divided doses. Start with smaller amounts and gradually increase them to minimize the flush. You could also take extra vitamin A = 100,000 IU per day, but always stop taking it one day every 2 weeks to allow the body to balance out. Guest guest
Bee, don't you mean 10,000 IU per day? The capsules come in 10,000 IU, and 25,000 IU's. Taking the 100,000 IU would be 10 a day--way too much for a pregnant woman. There are suppose to be dangers in supplementing with vitamin A during pregnancy. Many warnings are there. It is not a water soluable vitamin. I found that out when I was pregnant back 27 years ago. I believe I mentioned what happened before. I believe I mentioned what happened before. ==>I meant 100,000 IUs of natural vitamin A found in cod liver oil and other fish liver oils. There is no danger taking 100,000 IU of natural source vitamin A. The problems associated with high doses of vitamin A only occur with synthetic vitamin A and when it is not taken along with enough vitamin D and omega-3 as well as other good fats. All of the fats and oil soluble vitamins work together and taking one without others will cause problems. Also good saturated fats are required in order for the body to utilize vitamin A, D, E, omega-3, etc. ==>To avoid any possible overdose you stop taking it one day every 2 weeks so your body can balance it out. High doses shouldn't be taken longer than 3 months at a time. Bee

Guest guest
This link is to the WAP diet for pregnant women. It says 20,000 IU from cod liver oil. And then part of the diet includes extra liver, which would bump up the Vit A intake considerably. http://www.westonaprice.org/children/dietformothers.html Marla > ==>I meant 100,000 IUs of natural vitamin A found in cod liver oil > and other fish liver oils. Guest guest
Hi Sue, I don't mean to disagree with Bee, as I feel her program is tops and I've had good results with it. But I feel I must tell what happened. I had 4 children. Two girls and two boys. My boys were born between the girls.Soon after my oldest son was born he was found to have a heart problem. We had to fly to Mayo Clinic on an emergency flight as he was going into heart failure. He had a malfunction of the heart and was treated and was fine. Then 4 years later I had another son. He had a hole in his heart and very narrow valves. He had heart surgery to correct the problem when he was eleven months old. The doctors were curious as to why I had two boys with heart problems. I also wondered, and read soon after my second son was born, that taking supplemental vitamin A was causing birth defects and heart abnormalities. That really rang a bell, as I had been taking 25,000 IU's of vitamin A throughout both pregnancies. I researched it, as I do for many health matters. I was alarmed at what I read and found that pregnant women should not get more than 8,000 IU's per day. I've since read the warnings on the internet. I never told my doctors this, as I don't know that they would have known at that time the dangers. (It was new found medical research, 21 years ago) But I have always felt guilty about this and wondered if it was because of me supplementing with this vitamin. I have always been a researcher in alternative methods and the medical side. Now I'm almost sure that what I took was vitamin A derived from fish oil, it was the Now brand. When I got pregnant again, I made sure I did not take the supplement and I had a healthy girl, with a healthy heart. My first daughter, my oldest was fine also and I did not supplement with A, and I smoked throughout that pregnancy. Of course, I am not possitively sure about this being because of the vitamin A, but it always stuck in my mind. I now supplement with vitamin A and take Cod Liver Oil. I take one or two 25,000 IU's a day. My cod liver oil only contains 1,200 IU's, so it would be hard to get it all from that. My brand is still the Now brand derived from fish oil. I feel I dont need it as much in the summer months. It has always helped my sinus's and my dry eye that I get in the cold winter months.
