Excerpt

" To begin with, I believed that carbohydrates were bad for the most part. Many

people cannot digest gluten well; grains feed yeast, they tell us. Fruits,

grains and starchy vegetables are full of sugars that will greatly increase over

growth. Right? You will hear people tell you that you have to get fats and

proteins in your diet. They are essential for life. They will note that there

are many vitamins and minerals the human body needs as well. But there is no

minimum daily requirement for carbohydrates. They say you can live your whole

life with good foods and very limited carbohydrates. In fact they will go so far

as to say if you do this, you will be much healthier for it. "

" The Negative Effects of Limiting Fruits and Grains

When fruits and grains are cut out of the diet, the main fiber sources are cut

out and most people on low carb diets are lucky to have one bowel movement a

day. Halitosis (bad breath, especially in the morning) becomes common among low

carb dieters (This indicates a fowl smelling, compromised digestive tract). And

if a live blood analysis is done on any low carb dieter, it will show rouleaux "

What feeds the good bacteria? were you able to read the entire article?

One reason, they say, is that if you eat mostly fats and proteins your body will

break them down for energy rather than using carbohydrates and this method of

obtaining energy is actually more efficient. What I have noticed in practice

however, is that a low carb diet does not give a person as much energy as a diet

that contains carbohydrates. Now before you write me and tell me how wrong I am,

I need to say that a diet heavy in grains that can not be digested, a body

loaded with Candida, or a person eating any imbalanced diet of any kind has

similar problems. When all the raw materials are not present, and the body has

to take auxiliary routes to obtaining energy or nutrients, the system is slower

and organ systems become suppressed. For example, people with many different

types of diets see a suppressed thyroid gland. This lowers metabolism which in

turn lowers energy levels. People on vegan vegetarian diets, who change over to

an Atkins diet, usually

loose lots of weight and at first feel very, very good for the change. So do

long time Adkins people when they add back a good amount of fruit and some

grains, along with a good potato, rice etc. They have more energy and feel

healthier, though the adjustment usually means they will put on weight.

[ ] Re: Feedback on article

Hi ,

I know Bee already mentioned that this article was inaccurate, but the

misinformation in this article just made me want to say something. I

hope you don't mind.

What I first noticed was that no where in her article did she ever

mention die off, healing reactions, or retracing old injuries. And

anyone who's been on Bee's diet for even a month, knows how much these

issues are a critical, if not horribly annoying, part of the healing

process! In many cases the author talks about how changes in diet can

increase or decrease energy, but no where does she EVER mention that

energy levels are just as likely to change due to an increase or

decrease of die off. She also goes on to discuss certain Candida

caused die off symptoms (like blood toxin levels, bad breath, poor

digestion, and sluggish bowel movements) as if they were symptoms of

low carb diets. This, to me, shows her limited knowledge as well,

since most people on Bee's diet can attest for the fact that the

longer they eat low carb, these symptoms DECREASE, not increase.

Secondly, there are numerous reasons why most low carb diets fail to

rid a person of their candida problems, but these reasons have nothing

to do with low carb being problematic. These diets are unsuccessful

because dieters usually don't stay on the diet long enough, don't take

the right supplements, and don't pay attention to other health issues.

They didn't fail because low carb is bad, they failed because they

didn't take a holistic approach to nutrition and health, like Bee

recommends.

Thirdly, some of the stuff the author recommends, as if they are

antithetical to low carb diets, are actually things that Bee

recommends. The author's encouragement of fermented foods, coconut

oil, and probiotics, are all critical steps in Bee's plan. And the

author's argument that low carb diets suppress good flora as well as

bad flora is just not true. Garlic, a wonderful antifungal and low

carb item, helps feed good flora. Sour kraut, which is excellent for

good bacteria, is also a great low carb diet option. If you follow

Bee's recommendation, your diet will not only be low carb but you will

have healthy thriving good flora in your intestines as well.

Yes, the author is right that it is a good idea to work on your flora,

and she is right that a compromised digestive tract can not digest a

great deal of what it is designed to digest. BUT its not true that low

carb means less nutrients. I could go on and on about all the

inaccuracies in that article. Her advocacy of fiber and her

discussion about acidity are two more examples of just how erroneous

her approach really is. We have seen Bee post on both these issues

enough times to know that these points are more faddish than accurate.

But my main criticism is that the author's recommendations (of eating

a high carb diet with large amounts of probiotics and fermented foods

as a cure for candida) really don't solve anything. Yes a person

might feel a bit better if they suddenly went from a low carb to a

high carb diet, simply because their die off and healing reactions

might decrease. But in the long run, this type of diet, at best, only

leaves a persons health in stasis. Maybe the probiotics are enough to

keep digestion from getting worse, but the high carb part is only

going to keep feeding the already overgrown monster, Candida.

The bottom line, I feel, is this, yes SOME fruit maybe ok when you are

healthy, have a working digestive tract, a healthy immune system, good

flora in your gut, and eat a nutrient rich diet with the right amount

of protein and good saturated fats. But how many of us are like that?

From years of eating the typical main stream diet, we are far from

it. Most people suffer in some way, shape, or form from poor

nutrition, too many toxins, candida overgorwths, and/or poor

digestion. Bee's diet can help almost anyone with these issues. Her

supplements and food recommendations are sound nutritional advice, her

recommendations of good fats help our bodies detox naturally, the low

carb advice helps reduce candida while our bodies heal, and her

digestion advice helps us improve our absorption of nutrients. Yes

this author may be right about most low carb diets, but her criticism

is pointless when one looks at the holistic approach Bee recommends.

So I guess my point is, stick to Bee's diet, and have faith. I know,

I know, there is so much information out there, its hard to know

sometimes what is right and what is wrong. But the more of Bee's

articles you read, and the more you research the information, a person

can't help but see the facts behind what Bee recommends. All true

healing takes time, and anything worth having doesn't come easy. Take

care, I hope you don't mind me sharing my two cents. " )
