Guest guest
Hello, Bee. I seem to be struggling this morning about my vitamin A intake again. I'm posting this message simply for re-confirmation that I am doing the right thing. I am trying very hard to control my anxiety over this subject, but I still am looking for that peace of mind. I am only taking the equivalent of 10K IUs of natural vitamin A per day, as well as the vitamin A naturally found in my egg yolks, butter, and other daily foods. For some reason I've been thinking lately that the extra vitamin A (previously I was at 20K IUs) was taxing on my liver and creating an overdose condition for my body. Most 'recommendations' say that the upper daily intake is 10K IUs. Can you please help me squash this pest in my mind again? Am I OK to just be taking the 10K IUs per day, or should I still be consuming 20K IUs per day to help boost my immune system? I know I sound like a broken record, but I guess thinking about my previous Accutane intake, I wonder if perhaps there are very large stores of this medication (synthetic vitamin A) in my system, which might make me sensitive to vitamin A intake. Thank-you, Bee. I appreciate your patience with me and taking the time to share your wisdom with me. Regards,

Am I OK to > just be taking the 10K IUs per day, or should I still be consuming 20K IUs per day to help boost my immune system? ==>, I know it is very hard to fight the " misinformation " you acquire, so I suggest you learn more about vitamin A - I will suggest articles later in this message. When you are getting " true " vitamin A, called retinol, from natural sources, doses up to 100,000 IUs daily can be taken for periods of time without any side effects. My own doctor recommended I take that much to help the my body deal with symptoms of a bad cold many years ago. ==>I've been taking between at least 30,000 IU daily for over 20 years with no side effects. Even back in the mid 1980s my doctor recommended at least 30,000 IUs per day, in addition to what was contained in foods. ==>The liver needs vitamin A very badly, just like it needs the other oil soluble nutrients and omega-3, good fats, etc. in order to function well and be healthy. Do not be concerned about your liver unless you have pain, which mainly means it is dealing with a lot of toxins, but it wouldn't mean vitamin A is the problem. ==>It is very important that your body gets " enough " vitamin A so you should increase your dose to 20,000 IUs and even up to 30,000 IUs daily. > > I know I sound like a broken record, but I guess thinking about my > previous Accutane intake, I wonder if perhaps there are very large > stores of this medication (synthetic vitamin A) in my system, which > might make me sensitive to vitamin A intake. ==>No, as I've written before, accutane is a toxin which your body easily gets rid of IF you give your body all of the nutrients it requires, including the correct amount of " true " vitamin A. ==>Please read these references about vitamin A: http://www.westonaprice.org/basicnutrition/vitaminasaga.html http://www.westonaprice.org/men/vitaminabodybuilding.html http://www.realmilk.com/vita.html http://www.westonaprice.org/basicnutrition/vitamina-osteo.html http://www.westonaprice.org/basicnutrition/vitaminprimer.html The best, Bee
