Now i am wondering, is low stomach acid the prelude to > candida or is candida the prelude to low stomach acid??? In other > words, do i have candida because i have low stomach acid or do i have > low stomach acid because i have candida?? ==>It's like the chicken and egg question: " What came first? " What came first was a depressed immune system. A high-carb diet, without enough good fats and meats/eggs, will cause low stomach acid all by itself, but also candida and other bugs cause low stomach acid. > i realise that one needs to have good levels of acid in order to avoid constant re-infection, but i am begining to worry that i will have to take HCL every day for the rest of my life in order to stave off this terrible affliction. Bee, will my stomach learn to produce acid again??? ==>Yes, your stomach will be able to produce acid again, particularly after your candida is cured, which is when your immune system becomes strong enough to " make " it change back into the nice friendly organism it is supposed to be in the body. I do not have to take it any more, but sometime when I'm stressed I need it, so I take it on an " as needed " basis. Bee
