Why can't I lose any weight?

My name is Dianne and my daughter, told me about this

group. I've read the Introductory File and have started cutting back

on certain foods. I've been away from alcohol (1 beer in every

evening), white flour, sugars, including fruits. I basically just eat

meat and veggies. A few years ago when I was doing Atkins, I would

experience rapid weight loss that I found motivating. Now, I'm so

discouraged that I actually gained weight or didnt lose any, that I

binge. A few years ago I was Dx with Hypothyroidism and recently a

natural doctor told me my adrenals were exhausted. I feel better

when I just eat the meat and veggies but it discourages me that I

can't lose weight. I can't bend over cuz my belly is in the way!

Just how much fatter am I going to get? I don't know what to do,

Atkins always worked for me in the past. To top things off, I have

frozen shoulder syndrome which makes it harder for me to exercise and

my constipation that I've had since my first pregnancy 30 years ago,

is the worst it's ever been, since recently taking away certain

foods. I also have spastic colon. I just don't know what to do

anymore. My sisters are all losing weight on Weight Watchers but my

daughter doesnt want me to do that, cuz she says that program won't

address underlying health issues and she doesnt like the way they'll

skip dinner so they can use their points on cheesecake. Why isnt the

low carb diet working for me anymore?

Thanks for reading this,

Dianne

Hi Dianne and welcome! Your story is so much like

mine! I did low carb for 12 years and went on and off

it. I'd lose weight, then fall off the plan and

regain it so fast it was discouraging. After I had my

son regular low carb didn't work for me any more! I

was so frustrated, after 8 months on low carb without

a cheat, I gained 15 pounds!

I was terrified and had no idea what to do. So I went

out on the net looking for answers, and found a site

that talked about the candida connection and the

emotional aspects of dieting (food addiction). I had

known I had candida for years but didn't really know

that a lot of the things allowed on a low carb diet

fed the candida. I also came to terms with the fact

that I'm a food addict.

So I started doing that diet with the help of my

mentor and the weight finally started to come off.

The diet is pretty much identical to this one except

the ratios/calories are slightly different and she

recommends no butter/lemon juice. But she recognizes

I do OK on lemon juice.

Anyway at this point I've lost 120 pounds doing this

so I know it works. But the weight didn't really

start moving until I got rid of the very last of the

things I was still eating that were low carb but not

candida-friendly. I spent four months weaning onto

the diet.

Then after I had been on that diet for a few months, I

found this site and learned about the benefits of

coconut oil and raw garlic and which supplements to

take, and that has helped my weight loss do even

better, and has raised my thyroid levels and lowered

my risks for diabetes.

In fact I have found that I stop losing weight when I

stop the coconut oil so I'm not sure if I would have

lost any more weight had I not found out about the

benefits of coconut oil.

So I am sure that technically I can help you lose

weight and I'm happy to do so. But there's one thing

I can't give you, and that's the desire to lose the

weight. It's very hard and you have to want it more

than you want anything you could eat or drink that is

not on plan. I mean you might desire to lose weight,

but your desire to drink alcohol each night is

stronger, or your desire to eat cake or what have you.

I can tell you all sorts of strategies, perspectives,

etc. and that might help you get to a place where food

is less of a priority for you than your health and

your actions support that priority, but it's entirely

up to you to follow through, if that makes sense?

I think each person gets to a point where they are

ready, where the stakes are high enough, where they

are ready to face their own truth even though it's

scary. Or when they are so miserable they are willing

to try anything.

I'm not an expert in that area, I only know what has

been my own experience. But if you think that you are

ready to do this please feel free to email me

privately and I'd be happy to help you.

It is a lot easier to act ourselves into new thinking than to think ourselves

into a new action.
