Guest guest
My Dr told me that anybody with an impaired immune system is likely to get a fungal infection. He checks all his patients for fungus', and finds infs in a good percentage of them. The fungus' themselves can also be immune suppressive. They found 10 different fungus' in me, what I was actually wondering, are these actuall fungus like you would see growing on something or would they be blood-borne? Has anyone else been checked for them? Where would I start searching for info on them?

Guest guest
Dear Patty, I don't have any personal experience with fungal sinus infections but from reading on the 'net, know they can be a serious illness. Has an ENT evaluated your son? Sincerely, Martha(mom to Chrissy IgA deficiency, polysaccharide antibody deficiency etc.)
Guest guest
An ENT appointment is scheduled for the 29th I believe. His doc thought would have to have surgery to remove the fungus and treated that way but has been through three FESS surgeries and I don't want to put him through any more. I am just trying to explore all options so that I can go to the appointment prepared. Thanks for your help, Patty

Guest guest
Hello Patty, I have a son with PID. I also have a friend who is 72 that I help take care of. He has had chronic lung and sinus problems his whole life and I suspect he has a PID that was never diagnosed. At the moment, he is being treated for a sinus infection. First with Zithromax, and then with Flagyl to clear up any Fungus. I don't know if kids can take Flagyl, but it's a something you may want to explore. Sandi--Mom to , age 8. Suspected IgA def., Tetrology of Falot, chronic sinusitis, chronic ear infections (with tubes), severe allergies. Nine surgeries, one pending. Guest guest
was there a sinus culture? I've heard Amphotericin described as Amphoterrible. It's a hard antifungal on the system and I'd hope that cultures had shown fungal and he just hadn't taken a shot in the dark. Guest guest
Because of their compromised immune systems, our kids have all sorts of resistant bugs in their sinuses. Most of our kids don't make enough antibodies to mount a response to fight these off on their own so sinus infections are common. Unfortunately the only way to get an accurate culture is to do so by surgical methods, and doing this can scar the sinuses more and cause more problems. This is why there seems to be a lot of guessing going on with the pediatricians when it comes to prescribing antibiotics and which ones to prescribe. A lot of times nasal smears don't get deep enough into the sinuses to get an accurate culture. I don't have any answers, just an explanation of why these infections are so hard to eliminate. Good luck, Lynne

Guest guest
Patty, Jake (7) grew mold in a sinus culture that was taken a while back. He was put on Diflucan for 1 month. I honestly can't tell a difference, but there was also bacteria present. I will know more when the second culture is taken. Kristie Fungal Sinusitis I was wondering if any of the other kids out there have experienced a fungal sinus infection and what was done to clear the infection. My son has been blowing black 'stuff' from his nose since December. The docs tell me this is mold and prescribed Amphotericin B nasal washes. could not tolerate the Amphotericin B and was constantly complaining of stomach aches and vomiting, which cleared up when the Ampho was stopped. Now we are doing a ''s solution' nasal wash which doesn't seem to be helping clear the black mold very much. On the internet I have read about a Sinuneb machine to deliver the medication directly into the sinuses. Has anyone out there had any experience with this machine and how do the kids tolerate it? does use an SVN machine to recieve his breathing treatments but I'm not sure if he would tolerate or like this machine which is held to the nose. Thanks for your help, Patty This forum is open to parents and caregivers of children diagnosed with a Primary Immune Deficiency. Guest guest
...thanks for the update, , posted to files. My toe fungus responded VERY slowly to electricity, and did not fully go away. I finally used an anti-fungal cream on it, which was far more effective. I did not use electricity everyday, though. It did reduce it somewhat, but conditions, moisture, etc were still there causing it to grow. Could not be suprising that once electricity was shut off, it was able to regenerate. I was not able to do much with fungus, if that is what was in the toes. Skin kept cracking and itching, though with very hard usage it would retreat awhile. I'd see a doctor before doing much more current, , it sounds like it's not the right remedy for this particular thing. Definitely don't increase the usage of it, because you don't know what it's doing. The things it doesn't work on are quick-growing things, like mold, fungus, bacteria, etc. When it works on my sinuses, they beging to drain within hours, and overnight the relief is complete. And that is just an hour of use at bedtime. Apparently they are not the same causes in all cases. bG > Another update. > > I am continuing to treat my sinus problems with Godzilla, using 0.5mA for > one hour each day, either from temple to temple (to get the frontal sinuses) > or above eyebrow to back of neck (to get all sinuses on one side) changing > polarity every 5 minutes. > I continue to experience die-off symptoms, pain and inflamation down right > side of head, swollen glands down right side of body, pain in right kidney > and down right leg, prickling and tingling in various parts of my body, and > a weird dizzy feeling in the back of my head somewhere. Guest guest
I have been seeing an ENT consultant with this, and she has been, frankly, useless. My previous consultant told me there was no problem, for two years, then had to change his mind when I started washing large chunks of fungus out of my sinuses. I identified this as aspergillus fumigatus under a microscope - I even photographed it and compared it with photos I found online - and sent a sample off to the Fungal Lab (I was working in a hospital lab at the time and had access to lab services). They cultured, surprise surprise, aspergillus fumigatus and phoned me to warn me that this was very serious. I was prescribed oral antifungals for a few months, which didn't help, then referred to my current doctor, who has done nothing. She says I am not a suitable candidate for surgery, and that I don't fulfil the criteria for trials she is doing with an amphotericin B nasal rinse. She has nothing else in her black bag she can give me, so alternative approaches are my only hope. Before anyone suggests it, I have rinsed with every possible combination of CS, MSM, grapefruit seed extract, and inhaled ozone every day for months, and it has all helped, but not eliminated the problem. Meanwhile I have lost my job through being unwell, which seems very unfair as I think I picked up this infection at work, in the path lab. I am taking legal advice. I do think this is working, though slowly, and will continue as I am for the time being, in the hope it will eventually get entirely better. The other approach I want to try is the device described on the magnetic-pulser list. If it works for Lyme, maybe it will work for this. Guest guest
Hi........if you use the mag pulser you would probably be better off getting a very small heavy gauge coil.....like 5" and 10 gauge............There is a new autopulse module that is being used and we are finding that slower rates such as 1 1/2 or 2 hz is better than 5........it may actually give the batterie(s) time to bounce back and slower rates are harder for the body to adjust too.........from all of the testimonials I have from people using the pulser, most of them are from sinus relief.......by the way..........hi everybody.........Robb Re: Fungal sinusitis> ..thanks for the update, , posted to files. Guest guest
Have you thought about some of the Rife-like devices? jra Re: Fungal sinusitis > > > > ..thanks for the update, , posted to files. Guest guest
Hi , I had a sinus condition, which I finally guessed to be a fungal infection, for about 10 years. I had to guess at the cause, because 22 (!!!!) MD/ENT and other specialists didn't make any tests for fungus. A CAT scan showed no abnormalities, but the entire right side of my face was puffy. I tried practically everything to reduce the problem (Two years of which required me to sleep in a chair because I couldn't lay down for 15 minutes before the pain started. I had severe pain episodes two to four times a day, some lasting 8 hours.). Of course, I couldn't work reliably, and lost practically all of my clients (I'm a consultant). I tried, among many other things, 50,000 mg of vitamin C daily, 8 ounces of cayenne pepper juice daily (hoping to get better blood flow to fight the problem), CS, MSM, etc. -- the same as you. I also tried various exercises, Chi Gung (and Tai Chi, Yoga, etc.). Finally, I decided to try 's Zapper, a year after I read her book " The Cure for all Diseases. " I worked with electronics for over 40 years, so I knew low voltage electricity couldn't possibly help. Well, it did. Within a day of using 's Zapper (I had all the parts needed sitting on my workbench for years, so I threw it together), I noticed a lessening of the duration of the sinus pain. Zapping three times daily, within a two weeks I had a full day without the pain -- something that hadn't happened for several years. This continued until the day came when I forgot to zap. I forgot for two weeks. Then I had another pain episode. So I had to build another zapper (because I gave the one I used to my sister to try for her arthritis). The pain started, and I zapped. Within 10 minutes the pain was gone. That was 6 years ago. Now I zap, maybe, once a month or less. But I have it sitting right here on my desk. Maybe this can help.
