The olive oil I use is Bariani. I use it because that is what the raw

fooders in LA use and they are very picky about quality.

I use various types of Bertolli. It is consistently fresh and it

always tastes good. I usually regret buying other brands.

Hi ,

I'm surprised to hear that you use Bertolli olive oil with no problems,

because, it gives me a lot of problems each time I use it. This proves that

what works for one person doesn't work for the other. Very interesting.

Perihan -- :-)

Thanks for a very informative post!

Well, this is a new one for me -- I'm just sitting here imagining having ten

different kinds of olive oil in my house! Whoo!

But, usually where there is a specialty product or service, there are lots of

people concerned with various fine-tuning qualities, right? (It just makes life

more interesting!)

I'm copying this post in my Reference File -- I want to keep track of these

brand names you mentioned, in case I can find a way to obtain them, myself.

Dear Ciel,

It is very hard for me to recommend good olive oil brands. It also depends on

where you live.

I live in Belgium but have a home in Turkey and France where we get excellent

olive oil. Here

in Belgium you can get really good olive oil in the health shops as well as

normal supermarkets

and it has never bee a question of not coming up to scratch. These things are

pretty well

regulated here. As for Turkish brands my favourite is Marmara Birlik and Taris

but I don't know

if you can get them there. Taris also makes skin products from from their

olive oil which

has helped me a lot with my skin problems. They are pure and contain only with

natural oils. (I hope this

does not construe advertising). Another oil I very much like is the one from

Pain Quotidien which

comes from Tunisia. It is strictly controlled and only sold in their own

place. I know they have

one in New York. The world of olive oil is so vast and different oils are used

for different

purposes. A whole cuisine has been built up on cooking vegetables with olive

oil called

" meze " to be found from Greece to Lebanon and consumed particularly in summer.

Even a

sinle separate dish can be cooked with a certain olive oil. I myself have at

least 10 different

brands in the house at any one time depending on what I am cooking or if I

make meze or use

it for salads. Sorry if this seems even more confusing. I am sorry that I

don't know too much

about olive oil in the States, if as I suspect you come from there.

regards,

Perihan

Bertolli is usually what I keep on hand, as well.
