Guest guest
Hi everyone. I took niacin today for the second time and boy did I have a huge reaction. I was surprised because I took it yesterday, same time, same dose, with food, etc but today the flush was much, much more intense. I experienced nausea, burning in my stomach, redness and sunburn sensation over my whole body and swelling. The other symptoms I had heard of but the swelling made me a little nervous. My whole body was swollen like someone had pumped me full of fluids. My lips hurt and it hurt to make a fist. Has anyone else experienced the swelling? I am assuming it is because the blood flow goes out to your extremities and into the smallest capillaries but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bad sign to have that much swelling. Also, will the flushes differ in symptoms and severity from one day to the next? Will the reaction, or the flush, decrease over time? It only lasted 20 minutes or so but, whoa, that was not something I would want to have happen out in public! Thank you, Tammy

Thank you, Tammy > >Hi Tammy, I took my first niacin tablet about a week ago, I started off with a full tablet, 100mg, and boy did I have a severe reaction. My whole body went hot and red. I think the worst thing is that I got so nervous, thinking what have I done. My body stayed that way for a good hour and slowly started to ease up after that. I know what you mean about not wanting that to happen in public. I had a doctor's appointment that morning and I was still a little red on my arms and back at the appointment. I didn't take a second dose for the next couple of days. But then I did take 50mg on the fourth day ( I split the tablet in half). The reaction was very mild, noticeable, but mild. Now I take the 50mg each morning and quite enjoy the slight heating sensation through my face, arms and joints. I'm supposed to take the other 50mg later in the day, as per Bee's article, however, due to my initial spooking, I haven't ventured there yet. Ah, it's all fun! Kind regards, , Australia >
Guest guest
Hi Tammy, I used to do this years ago. I heard a tip one time to take a baby aspirin at the same time as the niacin to help control the flushing, but I never tried taking aspirin too. The flushing didn't bother me too much - of course if anyone saw it, they would ask what was wrong with me and sometimes I'd have to sit down and wait for it to be over, but the discomfort was never enough to really bother me. I took the smallest dose of niacin I could find. I don't remember now what size dose that was, I just remember deliberately choosing the smallest dose. And I didn't do it every day - maybe just once a week or sometimes even less. It's been years since I did it, so I can't remember exactly, but it does seem like I got more used to it the longer I did it. Hope this helps. > > Hi everyone. That's why Bee recommends " non-flushing " niacin. It's opening the capillaries and oxygenating the blood...those are Good Things! jackie

I meant to say that Bee recommends choosing the kind of Niacin that WILL cause a flush...NOT the non-flushing kind. jackie
Guest guest
Hi, the following website, has excellent info on niacin, how it works, and its benefits: www.doctoryourself.com is Dr. Saul's website, and is an orthomolecular medicine (vitamin therapy) approach. Scroll down the list on the left hand side of the home page until you find " niacin " . As per the website, the more your body needs niacin, it will take longer to flush and greater quantities to cause it. This has been my experience. The more toxic my body is, the more niacin I can take without any or little flushing. Sometimes I cannot take more than 50 mg at a time or I will flush too much; other times, as in the last week, I I can take 200 mg at one time with only a very slight flush. My body might not flush with 100 mg at one meal, while I will get a huge flush with the same amount the next meal, and have to lower the dosage to 50 mg. So, I monitor this and ajust my dosage accordingly. To me, this shows that the body's need varies from one time to the other. I like the flushing, even when it is more; I can feel my body, brain, organs beeing irrigated by the blood rush, and really helping my body. However, I never experience swelling with niacin. Dr. Saul uses niacin for insomnia as well, as it has a calming effect; I'll try that next time I have a hard time falling asleep; also efficient against depression, being a detoxifier, and many other good things. Hoping this helps. Fran :- )

Guest guest
, You would never take baby aspirin nor any other drug to minimize niacin flushing. You just take less niacin. Cut back on the amount you take to minimize symptoms. > Also, will the flushes differ in symptoms and severity from one day to the next? Will the reaction, or the flush, decrease over time? Other times you'll get lots. It won't necessarily minimize - it varies according to your body and what is going on at the time. It helps get rid of toxins too. Guest guest
Thanks for letting me know. I got this information from a TV show called " Accent on Health " in the mid-90's. That show is where I found out about hydrogen peroxide, niacin, purfied water, the raw diet, and many other natural healng techniques. Since then I've read a lot of health books, but never found out anything else about niacin, only what I remember from that show. > > > > Hi Tammy, > > > > I used to do this years ago.
