" Hi Bee, What I meant was how many times can I re-use coconut oil, ghee, duck and pork fat after I have cooked food in them once. For example, I often use the same fat twice to cook with, and it seems ok. My question is can I re-use the same fats after a first use, and importantly, how many times? The reason I ask is that I am trying to save money. So, re-using the same fats after I have cooked with them more than once (or even two or three times) would help in that regard. TIA Fran :- )

I answered your question but I wasn't very clear about it. You can save the saturated fats that has been used in cooking for up to 2 years - in other words you can re-use the same fats time after time after time. I don't worry about how many times I've cooked such fats. If I collect a lot of it I keep it in a jar in my fridge and it will keep even longer than 2 years. But most of the time I pour all of the fats over the foods, except for bacon. ==>My grandmothers and my mother had a container for fats on the back of their wooden stoves. It had a strainer on the top to catch bits and pieces of meat, and the fat would melt into the container. > > The reason I ask is that I am trying to save money. So, re-using the same fats after I have cooked with them more than once (or even two or three times) would help in that regard. ==>You can use it as many times as you wish - would 10 times help? But I see I made a boo boo when I typed wooden stove instead of wood stove - my a wooden stove wouldn't be good for cooking, would it? LOL! ==>Fat containers were called " grease pots " . Everyone had to stop re- using fats because of the fat & oil industry. Such fats went rancid very easily, and most are rancid when they are bought, even now! Guest guest
I am very surprised to read that fat could be used many time. I always read that using it even twice is bad because burned fat is cancerous. I never used it twice or eat burned food for the same reason. However burned fats of should be discarded and not re-used. And no foods should be cooked at such a high heatthat the fats burn. Bee
