Guest guest
After doing a lot of reading on the subject, I have come to the conclusion that my hormonal disturbances (the inexplicable amenorrhea, the breast lump, which I found out today is an enlarged milk duct, the acne) have probably been caused by drinking a lot of soy milk in the early days of fighting my candida (January/February). I didn't know about this group then, and I certainly didn't know about soy's oestrogenic properties, and I was drinking a LOT of soy milk (because it was the only creamy thing I could have!) - sometimes even a litre a day. If I knew then what I know now, etc etc! I now know that genistein and daidzein, two soy proteins, are oestrogen mimics; that is, they fit into the body's receptor sites for that hormone and block its uptake. As a result of this, the body becomes very confused and doesn't produce progesterone, hence no bleeding. I still have " proper " oestrogen in my bloodstream - blood tests have shown that. It's just not getting to the right place. And yes, I know that candida makes the cells go rigid etc, but I never had a problem with my periods until, well, not having had one since March, and my candida was much worse a few years ago. So this seems to be the alternative explanation for the sudden cessation of my periods. What I want to know is if anyone here has any ideas on how to solve the problem! I have avoided soy in all its forms for about four and a half months now, and I've been giving my body all the right things it needs to heal itself (and I'm doing pretty well in other respects; I can think clearly for the first time in years, for example!), and still - no period. So clearly just eating right is not the answer for me, my body seems to need some extra help. I have noticed correlation between when I would have been getting my period and the incidence of gut problems and some bloating, which indicates that my body is trying to do something, I just don't know what! Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
