Guest guest
So if we are drinking alot of bone broth we don't need to take calc/mag??? I drink about a quart of broth per day AND take 800mgs calc/mag because I am breastfeeding a one year old. But sometimes I am still stiff in the mornings; usually goes away after I do yoga and get moving. Could I be taking too much? Is there somewhere to go to see the total nutritional profile for homemade bone broth? Fitday doesn't have it, and I know it would also vary depending on how diluted the broth is. I make mine by putting all the bones from a whole chicken in about 3gallons of water and boil for 24hrs; it ends up being a little over a gallon when finished. Does anyone know the vit/mineral content of such broth? Also, I am concerned my little guy is constipated. He's been going longer and longer between bowel movements; for a long time he only went every 3-4 days but now it's been almost a week. But the difference now is the formation of the stool; it used to be really soft and unformed, but the last one was much harder and fully formed; I wouldn't call it downright hard, but it was alot firmer than they usually are. He had a hard time passing it (or at least he acted like it was the end of the world and had been really fussing up until the time when it actually came out. He still eats mostly breastmilk but also eats solids from this diet; only thing is, he eats mostly meat, and a lot less veggies in comparison (just because that's what he wants, so I figure he knows what his body needs). I give him as much butter/coconut oil as he'll take, which isn't much. So would you mommies or grandmommies out there be concerned? If you would, what else would you do to help him? Thank you all. and little

I suggest you stop taking cal/mag and see how you do. If you get muscle cramps you may need to take some magnesium, but you probably won't need extra calcium. > > Is there somewhere to go to see the total nutritional profile for homemade bone broth? ==>Here's an excerpt from Broth is Beautiful: http://www.westonaprice.org/foodfeatures/broth.html " Rich homemade chicken broths help cure colds. Stock contains minerals in a form the body can absorb easily—not just calcium but also magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulphur and trace minerals. It contains the broken down material from cartilage and tendons--stuff like chondroitin sulphates and glucosamine, now sold as expensive supplements for arthritis and joint pain. " Also see Why Broth is Beautiful: http://www.westonaprice.org/foodfeatures/brothisbeautiful.html You can search at http://www.westonaprice.org using the word " broth " and you might find more. <snip> > Also, I am concerned my little guy is constipated. Your little guy is probably eating too much protein in ratio to his fat intake. Smother all of his foods with butter and/or coconut oil, and also ensure he gets cod liver oil - see more information about children and babies at: http://westonaprice.org. He can also have probiotics; the best is cabbage rejuvelac per my article. It is important to ensure proper elimination. ==>He could also drink your wonderful broth, which will provide minerals and also more liquids. Ensure he gets some ocean sea salt as well, like Celtic as recommended in my article. The amount for children will be less of course. The best to you and , Bee
