Thanks .. I just posted a bit on what I do to

manage my chaotic life, but forgot one thing.

Exercise has really helped me in this area. As I have

lost weight and increased exercise, my energy levels

have really gone up.

You would think that if you exercise you'd use up all

your energy on the exercise but it ends up giving you

energy all day long. I work out about 6 days a week

in the mornings and find that I have a spring in my

step all day long from this.

I start feeling tired if I *don't* go to the gym.

Every step I've taken in getting better has allowed me

to do more in my life. I dedicate a certain amount of

time to preparing my foods and exercising every day,

and it seems like it's time consuming and it is a bit

initially. But as time passes I find that the

investment in my time actually allows me to get a lot

more done and save time in many other ways.

hi debby

how long did it take you to feel so good on this diet? were you quite

sick when you started it or just trying to prevent poor health with it?

thanks

Well I was pretty sick in some ways and not so sick in

others. I did not have IBS or cancer or anything you

really could put too much of a name on.. mostly

generally I felt ill and tired and achy. I did get so

heavy and feel so ill at one point I knew if I didn't

change soon I was going to be bed-ridden and that

scared the crap out of me. I could feel how hard it

was to do anything physical.. my back ached all the

time and I could barely carry my newborn son to the

other side of the house to change him. Simple things

like getting in an out of a car and getting up off the

couch were agonizing.

My husband had to do my laundry for me which was

totally humiliating. The memory of how crappy I felt

and the fear of being bed ridden or losing my

independence is often what I think of when my mind

even day dreams about not eating this way. Cake and

candy don't appeal when I associate them with the pain

that I was in.

I have been on this diet for a year and a half

completely. I have had a few cheats but even though

they were all low carb cheats they effect me very

negatively. My cheats were nuts, dairy and processed

meats, things that are allowed on a typical low carb

diet but not allowed on an anti-candida diet. In my

mind I justified that they weren't that bad, but my

body begged to differ. Every time I cheated it took

me about a month to recover from the cheat of even one

meal, including weight gain, acne returning, etc.

That's why I haven't had that many cheats.

Before getting on this diet a year and a half ago I

was on a low carb diet for 8 months without a single

cheat but still had dairy, nuts, etc. as allowed on

that diet. I spent four months weaning slowly onto

this diet, so in a sense I have a year prior to the 18

months building up to this diet slowly which I am sure

helped ease my symptoms and gave me a head start.

I haven't had any grains or sugar for 2 years and

almost 6 months - not even a taste. This is after 12

years of struggling to be on the wagon and falling off

more time than I can count. What finally worked for

me was having the physical peace that I can only get

on an anti-candida diet (helped even more by Bee's

excellent supplements) and that can't be achieved on a

typical low carb diet for me, hitting bottom with my

health, and learning some new ways of redeveloping my

relationship with food.

I no longer eat for pleasure, I only eat to give my

body what it needs. That's not to say that I don't

find pleasure in eating, but I don't make that the

purpose.. all my food has to be is edible.. and I

purposefully make it boring so that I don't overeat or

start eating for pleasure. Eating has become

mechanical for me, all routine and that gives me an

emotional peace along with the physical peace I get on

this diet.

Here were some of my issues and where I am now:

BEFORE: Weighed 380 lbs

AFTER: Weigh 134 pounds less and still losing (you can

see before and " during " photos here:

http://debbypadilla.0catch.com/lowcarb/debbylwtd.jpg )

BEFORE: High blood pressure

AFTER: Blood pressure is low/normal - dropped by 50+

points - checked this after 1 year so don't know when

this improved specifically

BEFORE: High cholesterol

AFTER: Cholesterol is low/normal - dropped by 50+

points - checked this after 1 year so don't know when

this improved specifically

BEFORE: Constant fatigue

AFTER: Lots of energy - the increase was gradual but

it took a while. I think the first couple of months

were a drain but then it improved bit by bit between

the diet and exercise, each month getting better and

better. To the point where I sometimes dance around

for no reason I have so much energy

BEFORE: arthritis in knees - painful and effecting

everything

AFTER: athritis is only noticeable when I do heavy

weight lifting like squats - knee sometimes pops a bit

- took about a year

BEFORE: psoriasis

AFTER: psoriasis is completely gone - took about 10

months

BEFORE: major brain fog where I felt my IQ was about

30 points lower

AFTER: major brain fog is gone - feel normal again -

took about 6 months of gradual improvement

BEFORE: vaginal and anal itching

AFTER: vaginal/anal itching took about 4 months to

improve

BEFORE: acne

AFTER: acne took about 6 months, but is the first

thing to come back if I take medications or any

deviation with diet, even low carb foods

BEFORE: skin erruptions all over

AFTER: skin erruptions still happen but have decreased

about 80%

BEFORE: Could barely walk and couldn't stand for more

than 5 mins at a time - could only do 2 minutes on the

elliptical

AFTER: Can do 20 minutes on the stair master, walk at

a brisk pace for more than an hour, don't know how

long I can stand but a good while, can do 100 crunches

with my legs straight in the air without stopping, can

do an hour on the elliptical and barely break a sweat,

can do a ton of heavy body building and weight lifting

exercises and now have very large muscles.

BEFORE: Many physical weaknesses - couldn't kneel,

couldn't lay in certain positions in bed, had a hard

time getting out of my seat, car, etc.

AFTER: No problem kneeling, I do it all the time now

like kneeling beside my son's bed to give him a kiss,

get out of my car with ease and no pain, can lay in

any position in bed, even on my tummy.

BEFORE: frequent bladder/ear/sinus infections

AFTER: only have had one ear infection just recently

that came from a bad flu - no other infections for

more than two years

BEFORE: pre-diabetic with an HGBA1C of 5.9 (anything

above 6.0 is considered diabetic) and high fasting

blood glucose levels and a family history of diabetes

AFTER: HGBA1C is 5.2 and fasting blood glucose is 79 -

no longer prediabetic

BEFORE: constant insatiable hunger

AFTER: For the first time in my life I am at peace

with food, as long as I don't deviate or take

medications (antibiotics really screw with me the

most). I am still super sensitive to any off plan

foods but I attribute some of that to having candida

since the age of 1, yo-yo dieting and having large

amounts of antibiotics and sugar in my life. Plus I

plan to do this for life so I don't really just dream

when I can eat off plan again.

BEFORE: Anxiety/OCD

AFTER: Anxiety and OCD are greatly improved although I

believe some of it is more caused by external stresses

and a chaotic life.. I think diet has solved as much

as it can in this area and other life changes need to

be made to improve this further

There are more but I can't think of them all. Also I

had lab tests done just before I fully started on the

diet and about 1 year after.. my labs probably have

improved even more since then, although everything was

normal levels when I tested them, including vitamin

levels, various blood tests, etc. Everything improved

since my first test so I use those labs to show

doctors who are naysayers.. when they see my labs they

can't think of anything to dispute them.

Sorry this ended up being longer than I intended, but

hope this answers your questions!

Debby
