Hi . It's great that is down to a low dose of the steroids. I

imagine that as you continue to reduce it you may see some breakthrough. When

you say that she is moody, does she complain of pain as well? I do believe

that the day following a change there is pain as the body gets used to the

new dose and at levels under 2 mg its really a homeopathic dose.

As far as the exercise is concerned, even if you get a P.T. to do some of

the stretching - you will get the best results by following a program on a

daily basis. You might want to start using the splints for a short amount of

time and build up to a full night as she tolerates more. Some other

suggestions of exercises which puts in control (as opposed to you

passively stretching if you are not comfortable with that yet) is having her

stand at the edge of a step and letting her heel drop down she will be able

to stretch to the point where she feels it. You just have to encourage her to

hold it for 30-60 seconds. After a few days try to see if she is dropping

some more. You can also make a game out of this and try to make her walk on

her heels like a duck- have races etc. At some point you will feel more

comfortable passively stretching her ankles. It is not like the neck where

there are all sorts of nerves and it would be quite difficult for you to do

any harm. I hope this was helpful. Good luck!

Hi Janet:

I hope Mandy starts feeling better very quickly. That's what I hate about JRA.

The evil thing is that you never know when it can creepe up on the poor kids. I

feel so bad whenever any of the kids on the list go through a flare. I wish I

could take their pains away. They sure all deserve happy and healthy days. I

hope one day they can find a cure for this evil disease....

Hi Georgina,

Sorry to hear Josh is not feeling too well. Mandy has the same problem as Josh.

She started off in one knee, and then the other, and it just pops up, or I

should say flares in different joints at different times. She is feeling

somewhat better. I think the MTX is finally working. Who knows. These meds cover

up the problem, not solve them. Someday, I pray they figure out what causes it.

Mnady's doctor said that the senovium in her joints kind of get caught in the

joints. Her joints seem to lock when she is going up or down steps. But, I am

not sure why her elbows lock up. Take care, Janet

Hi Afsi,

Thank you. I read all of these emails, and wonder, do these doctors really know

what they are doing? So many children on high doses of meds, and still hurting.

It just isn't fair for these children to suffer. I just think that, something

sets it off.....either stress, or an allergy, or something, and it is going to

happen whether you are on prednisone MTX, or whatever. Mandy writes in a journal

everyday, so that I can see whether or not there is some kind of pattern. There

just isn't. The last time she flared, she had been ice skating, and fell on her

knee. Her doctor forbids her to skate anymore.... But her other flares, just

seem to come and go as they please. One day her knees hurt, another her elbows,

etc. It is so unpredictable. What are your thoughts? Take care, Janet

Hi Janet:

You are so right about unpredictability of this disease. I wish there was a way

to tell or there was some guidelines that could help you out in avoiding the

flare ups. But I guess we have to take it one day at a time and see what future

has in store for us. Sometimes I get really scared of thinking too much into

the future....

When I was first diagnosed three years ago the

only option I had at that time was to take medication

and see how my thyroid reacted to it. I was on PTU

and Synthroid at the same time. My thyroid stabilized

with the PTU and now the radioactive iodine is my

choice to do right now. My doctor said that I should

think about doing the iodine treatment now to reduce

the swelling in my neck and to reduce the three pills

a day I am taking. There are days though that I

feel like I can't swallow right even though I can. I

was told that that could be thyroiditis. PTU for me

helps stop the heart palpatations, nervousness and all

the other Grave's symptoms.

Interesting! Thanks for explaining, . Apparently Remeron is known

for its " put ya to sleep " properties. It did that to me the first night I

took it, but I was fine after that one day. Until the vertigo.... (which

I've never before had in my life).

Hi ,

I am sorry that this has to be short I just got back home from the

hospital a couple hours ago.

I am glad that you found us too. This is a great bunch of people here.

All so very caring, supportive and helpful.

I have a reverse curve of my neck and the only things that I have

found to help have been PT and I use the pillows with the divet in the

center. After we did the diagnostic testing for it, my Doc said that

the Radio Frequency Lesioning should help me. But we are waiting for

the things with my back to calm down first.

Welcome to the group I look forward to getting to know you.

Take care,

Katrina

HI Charlynn.

Wow, this is fantastic! You will finally be banded and the weight loss

will begin. I have yet to be banded (possibly on 12/29) and will look

forward to hearing about your experience when you return.

Have no doubt you are in good hands w/ Dr. Aceves - people seem to

praise him quite a bit and he has a great success rate. The care you

receive is supposedly fabulous as well.

Good luck and best wishes for an uneventful surgery and we will look

forward to your posts when you get to the other side!

Michele

(soon to be banded hopefully!)
