Guest guest
Welcome Jon! That is interesting about the vaccine. I haven't browsed the archives to see that poll. I worked in health care and got the Hep B series probably about 3 or 4 years before I had symptoms of A. Probably 90% of the workers in my facility choose to get vaccinated and I am the only one with A. Interesting avenue for research, though. Since your myotomy, do you ever have the feeling of the food emptying, like it is stuck for awhile and then goes down? Kathy Washington New Member and a Question Hello everyone,My name is Jon and I have dealt with achalasia over the past 7-8 years. I was first diagnosed with the disorder when I was fifteen and I am now 23. I had a dilation done when I was 15 and had a myotomy with a partial wrap performed about a year ago after the problems started to become too much to bear again.I noticed something interesting last night when I was looking around the memos and polls that were posted in the past. There was a poll that was conducted regarding hepatitis B vaccines and then coming down with achalasia. I never thought about it until I read this, however I went and checked my medical records and I did start having problems with achalasia right after I received the hepatitis B vaccine. Does anyone know anything about this subject? I found this odd that someone else would ask this question and also strange that I did come down with achalasia within a year after receiving my third shot. I have wondered for years what caused this problem and I would love to find out the answer. Also, please feel free to ask me any questions about achalasia you may have. I have lived with it for a while now and think I know alot about dealing with the problems I have had with it and having the myotomy done, etc.Your friend,Jon
Guest guest
Kathy and Jon, I'm in healthcare also, and I did receive the Hep vaccine about 15 yrs ago...the achalsia began about 10 years ago. I don't know if it's too soon, but I dO have that feeling that food is getting stuck for a bit, before going down. I keep thinking it is because I was so used to that happening, that I am looking for it to recur. Anyway, as my dr said...I still have spasms in the upper esophagus that may give me that feeling, but by drinking warm beverages, I should be able to keep it under control. The food IS getting down, and that is such a great feeling. To Jon, Welcome to this group, I'm relatively new to it also, and it's been a blessing to me. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for the responses. I think I will belooking into this issue a little bit further. A few other people have mailed me saying that they too started having symptoms within a year or so after receiving the vaccines. Please let me know if anyone else has any thoughts on this. Guest guest
Hello Jon. Welcome to the group. Sorry you have the disease. To answer your question, I've never had a Hep vaccine. But I have had A since 1972. in Oregon
Guest guest
Sorry for the delayed response. My myotomy seems to have done alot for me. I still need to drink liquid in order to help the food down my throat, however it no longer piles up and gets really stuck like it use to. The one complaint that I do have is that I did start to experience reflux after the surgery(I was given a partial wrap along with the myotomy.) I am now on a prescription for acid that seems to help the problem for the most part. Jon Pittsburgh > Welcome Jon! > That is interesting about the vaccine. Guest guest
Hi er, That happened to me. When my hormones settled down (thyroid, female) so did my blood calcium. However, I do have osteoporosis. Graves disease, which I have, can strip your bones of their calcium. You need to have a bone density scan done. Read about the connection between hyperthyroid and osteoporosis. Guest guest
Hi, Calcium levels can temporarily rise in hyperthyroidism, but since hyperparathyroidism is a more common cause of an elevated calcium, your doctor will probably order a parathyroid hormone level and an ionized calcium if your level was higher than 10.0. Or he may just repeat the calcium to see if this was temporary and order the other tests if the elevated calcium persists. Guest guest
Hi all - My name is and I live in Colorado..Years ago I was told through microscopy that I have systemic Candida. No surprise really, but for years I felt I was doing okay. I have definitely felt a week long spiral to no energy and " remembered " that I should look into addressing the Candida - Though there is a list of symptoms, one I never really have seen is stomach expansion. I mean I really have gained inches around the mid section overnight, this happened in October but I really did not think Candida.... Has anyone else experienced such gain of inches, I can only wear " stretchy' clothes right now...Yuck.. ~
Guest guest
Yes . I have gained many inches in stomach expansion and my tummy felt very sensative and I knew this whole list of problems I had must be related to something in the " gut " . Sure enough two separete practicioners diagnosed this as Candidasis. I sometimes still feel icky with anything tight not only around my waistlne, but around my chest too. I cannot wear a normal fitting bra anymore and have carved up all my sports bras so they don't make me feel cramped. A healthier diet and yeast overgrowth managment stuff has helped a lot plus tons of food supplements.
Guest guest
Hi You might also have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome - try googling it) or sensitivities to various foods. You should try an elimination diet to see if something you are eating is causing it. Guest guest
Hi , I have the same thing. The doctors told me years ago I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome but the bloating didn't occur until later. I think I may have Celiac Disease but haven't been tested yet. Since I have cut out all bread/yeast/gluten from my diet a lot of the bloating has subsided. I used to get really bad gas which also has subsided. Try to avoid any carbonated drinks and see what happens.
