Hi,

You betcha! I had most of these. For the salt and sugar cravings the

only thing I have found that works is the South Beach Diet. It really

helps with the cravings and I have lost 34.5 lbs. of the 57 lbs. I

gainned from being hypo...

I think you need better thyroid/adrenal treatment.

Yes!!!! I have severe headaches now - almost migraines. I also have

horrible sugar/salt cravings. It's ridiculous. I was told that if I have

sugar cravings, I should eat meat or protein and that will help them. It

does some. And I usually only get salt cravings after I give in to a sugar

craving. For a while I thought it had something to do with my cycle, but

now I don't think so since I'm in between and still have them.

re: severe headaches. I used to get these when I drank anything with nutrasweet

in it. Now, I'm finding that I have them when I drink anything with Splenda

also. I had read a little bit ago that the government says companies don't have

to disclose if nutrasweet or aspartame is in a product now. I'm wondering if

it's not some " hidden " ingredients that has brought this pain on. Guess I'll

stick to stevia from now on and make my own soda pop.

I do. I keep having migraines during ovulation and 7 days before

period (started three years ago after c-section and with my hypo

thyroid being diagnosed) and terrible cravings for salty and sweet

food (although I'm on low fat diet prescribed by my nutritionist and

am already well trained-after loosing 17,4kg to eat with control and

well balanced diet).

I'm on 50mg euthyrox with post partum hypothyroidism.

Keep telling this to my endo and General Practitioner, but they keep

shrugging their shoulders. Went to gynecologist and she said

everything is OK (and insisted there is no need to check my hormones,

since my period is regular on 28 days). Went to neurologist - got pain

killer for migraine and no answer about cause.

So I'm also completely in the dark - what is wrong with me?

I don't get sore throats but I do have salt and sugar cravings. I don't like to

put extra salt on anything. Everything I like to eat has lots of salt in it. I

don't put extra salt on anything. I think in my opinion, sugar cravings come

because you need the extra energy. Most Hypothyroid sufferers get low energy.

So the sugar is a quick fix to give you the energy that you need at that moment.

,

You would do better avoiding pop even without the sweeteners. A very

recent study showed a strong correlation between colas and osteoporosis,

at least for women. They suspect the phosphoric acid, since it is not

the caffeine, which only has a mild connection. The first soft drinks

were called " phosphates. " They do soften your teeth.

Gayla --

I used to get severe migraine headaces every month for years right

before ovulation. I truly believe that they were a result of being

HypoT and not being properly medicated or diagnosed. Since I've been

on a higher dose of meds, I haven't had any headaches at all. I also

have cravings for sweets & after I have the sweets, crave salt. I've

noticed that when I am feeling under medicated & going through

periods where I crash in the afternoons, that is when my body craves

the sweets the most. I think I crave the sugar (and also caffeine)

to get me through the day. I've also noticed that when I am

undermedicated, I don't ever really have a feeling of being full when

I eat. Whenever I start a higher dosage of meds, I don't have any

cravings at all & my appetite feels normal for a week or two.

Last year my throid was so sore and painful that my doctor referred

me to a surgeon to have it removed. (thankfully I didn't) Eventually

that went away too. In retrospect, I know it was because I was

undermedicated at the time and you may be too. I feel undermedicated

long before it ever shows up on my labs, so it has become a vicious

cycle for me. I have my dose upped, feel great for a while then I

crash. The doctor won't increase my dose until he can see it on

paper, so I end up feeling like crap for months.

I've recently switched docs and was very pleased with my first visit

with the new doc. She was the first doc EVER to acknowledge that all

of the symptoms I am having are because of being Hypo. She said all

of her patients have the same symptoms. She switched me to Armour &

upped my dose & I am really hoping this will work out better for me.

: its been my experience that doctors don't know and

doctors don't care, and if you keep asking them questions, they'll

raise the cost of your visit. So I just keep my mouth shut and try to

find the answers on my own and pray that God helps me with whatever my

concern is.
