I raise many birds and wheat grass is very easy to grow, I feed it to my birds all the time. I buy by the 50lb bag but have seen it in many grocery stores that have bulk bins, It is called wheat berries. i use the hard red wheatberries.

bought some wheat grass at the hfs the other day, but one of your

posts made me wonder -- will my cheapo juicer work on it? Any

thoughts or advice appreciated.

- your juicer will work, just not as efficiently as those

made specifically for wheat grass. Actually, here is what I do

instead since I also have a cheapo juicer...I take the WG cuttings

and put into the blender with a small amount of really good water

blend and strain for my drink...I prefer it that way to the cheapo

juicer. Some people " wadge " the wheat grass, chew a wad!!!! (not

likely with my bridgework) but either way you will get all the great

essence - alkalizing, clorophyll etc.

Hi , if you have a centrifugal type it might be difficult.

You could try adding in some of the wheat grass as you juice carrots or some

hard vegetable.

Usually the gass fibres will pile up on the grinding teeth in the basket.

The other thing you can do is chew the grass and spit out the pulp.

I used to take wheat grass to work and do that.

Does anyone know if you can grow your own wheat grass? If so, where would

one get seeds?

I have never seen it at my HFS. In fact, I have never seen it anywhere (I

don't live in a big metropolis)

thanks -

If you look online for places that sell sprouting seeds any of them will likley

sell wheat for growing Penny.

http://www.sprouting.com/ is the one I deal with.

The owner is nice. He has a group on sprouting that I subscribe to as

well.

Usually I get my wheat berries from either Wild Oats or my local

store (Food For Thought) Another great sources of very high quality

seeds and materials is www..com

I enjoy growing the wheat grass and also grow some chewing grass for

the dog and cat during the winter months (lulu cat likes oats better

though)! It only takes a few days to get them going once they have

soaked and pre-sprouted. And they are pretty too!

Oh, my -- I think my colleagues find me odd enough without chewing grass and spitting! I assume you have a private office. (I don't.)

Now that you mention it, I do have a centrifugal juicer and will try what you suggest. I don't find the taste of it enjoyable without something added anyway. Thanks,

KATHERINE:

I have a little " tea " strainer it is metal and looks like a large

spoon with holes and a very short handle - I've had it for ages but

I've seen other similar things like a small mesh seive that would fit

over/into the mouth of a glass or cup. Barring that, some mesh

screening/strainer even if a little large would suffice since you

don't need much juice for the benefit (just a couple ounces) I image

it would be fairly manageable. Here is a link from a search I did

for " mesh tea strainer " This was $6.99, but I know my local " dollar

store " has them for about $1. If you can't find one locally, I can

see what I can do to send you something if we strike out!
