Guest guest
that's why it's so good to have support when going against the majority. and 'books' like bee wilder gave us in our 'files' here in the group help keep our strength while swimming up stream. do you realize how much time and money is spent on programing our children to eat all that sugary crap? we have to make eating right 'cool' so the rest of the world follows us. for the children. peace, gina --- " Kindscher (Charter) " <morningsunranch@...> wrote: > Yes I can relate to all that. Guest guest
My 4 year old asks me questions all the time about what's good for us and what's not- because he's heard me say that such and such isn't good for you and that's why we only have it every once and a while. We plan to homeschool, so hopefully a lot of the influence and junk that they get fed at school will be avoided. But my family...they fill them with junk whenever possible. My sister who is killing herself with diet coke started to give my son a sip of it right in front of me! What's worse is that he and my husband are highly reactive to aspartame. It could have killed him! (By the way... short story... my sister gave my son some of that bubble tape, I think it was Hubba Bubba, maybe? It was made by Wrigley's. Before I knew it he had chewed up the whole thing. I found this out because he had a rash all of a sudden all over and I was trying to figure out what it was from. The gum was the only thing he had never had before, and guess what? Though it's not labeled " sugar free " in very small letters on the back it lists aspartame in the ingredients. It's not sugar-free, but they add the aspartame because it helps bring out the flavor, more so than sugar. Found that out when I blasted Wrigley's for using it. Be VERY careful!) Guest guest
The food industries are slowly moving towards using Splenda (sucralose). I'm very sensitive to aspartame, and Splenda doesn't affect me. Splenda is starting to pop up everywhere. The only soda I will drink is Diet Rite (no aspartame, carbs, or caffeine). They've even come out with a whole line of flavors other than cola. I can't believe the crap that companies have been getting away with for years using aspartame. Hopefully aspartame used in foods will be a distant memory soon. It is a well-documented neurotoxin. It gives me massive headaches along with a whole slew of other symptoms. Don't even get me started on MSG...... -gregory Evie Maddox <evie@...> wrote: My 4 year old asks me questions all the time about what's good for us and what's not- because he's heard me say that such and such isn't good for you and that's why we only have it every once and a while. Guest guest
Yep, even diet coke is switching over. Rather silently, probably so they don't have to admit they've been killing people for years. I am leery of splenda as well, and try to eat whole, natural foods as much as possible. TRY is the operative word! lol Evie _____ From: candidiasis [mailto:candidiasis ] On Behalf Of Sent: Saturday, July 02, 2005 10:41 AM candidiasis Subject: RE: yea! for the no junk food support group The food industries are slowly moving towards using Splenda (sucralose). Guest guest
That would make me furious if my family knew my wishes and still gave that stuff to my kids. I even layed the law down at youth group because they would always bring crap for the kids to eat. I told them don't even think about giving that to my kids. The I was labeled as the sugar Nazi, but I don t care, let them eat themselves to death. It is really hard once your kids are teenagers because they have that whole attitude of not caring about the future and I am never going to die attitude. SO even though I preach healthy eating all day, they always buy garbage when they go out with friends! At least some day down the road they will have the knowledge to fall back on when health becomes important to them. -- RE: yea! for the no junk food support group My 4 year old asks me questions all the time about what's good for us and what's not- because he's heard me say that such and such isn't good for you and that's why we only have it every once and a while. Guest guest
Have you also heard the bad press about Splenda? Maybe you don't want to hear, but it has its own set of problems. Why not just give up things that need to be sweet. Drink water instead of soda, it does not take that much to break the habit. Whether or not they have aspartame in the soda is only part of the problem, what about the high phosphorus content, and the aluminum in the cans, and the colorings and flavor. Soda, french fries and donuts should never touch anyones lips that wants to be healthy. Look up the dangers of sucralose on the interernet. -- RE: yea! for the no junk food support group The food industries are slowly moving towards using Splenda (sucralose). Guest guest
Last summer we went to FL and stayed w/ my husband's parents, his sister and her family. He gave them some money for food and told them what we needed for the kids. Mostly organic cheese, organic milk, etc. Did they get it? NO! Said it was too expensive. So? This coming from people who retired into a $270,000 home (in TN, not some expensive place like CA). These are the same people who constantly complain but then don't listen. Or they think their doctors know so much more. Then when we say our dr. friend said such and such... " how do you know he knows what he's talking about? " And these are not teenagers...they're adults! lol I've decided that we are each handed certain information at certain times and what we do with that will make us or break us. Those who choose not to change will either take years off of their lives or get a number of lessons until they finally realize they need to change. I've had so much handed to me over the last 2 years I feel so truly blessed. And it's all come from different areas of my life and different sources. So when I educate somebody on something and they scoff at it...I know it's at least a seed. Even with our own children! Guest guest
I agree. I've got mixed reviews on Splenda, but that's not the only worry with soda.
