Hi, all. I just joined, and I know most of you have heard the same stories from

new members before, but please bare with me! I haven't been to a doctor, but

when I read about the symptoms of Candida, I do have many of them. First a brief

background:

1 year or a bit more of tetracycline for acne (about 5-8 years ago)

Birth control pill for 1 year (about 3 years ago)

I am a 32 years old

Recent diet background:

A few years ago I became really interested in nutrition. I started reading

everything I could get my hands on looking for the " right way " to eat. Here is

what resulted:

3 months as a vegetarian (about 3 years ago)

Followed by about 3-4 months eating a relaxed Paleo diet. I say " relaxed "

because I did eat pizza once a week and still ate other grains and cheese

occasionally

Then I discovered Nourishing Traditions and started eating raw milk products

like cows were going to stop being milked any day. :-) NT was my " go-ahead " to

start eating dairy again, and also led me to think bread was okay. I slowly

started eating more grains that were not necessarily NT compatible (white bread,

etc.). Eating the gluten grains only made me want more- big read flag, I now

know!

My health was downhill from there, largely due to all the raw dairy I was

consuming IMO.

Symptoms:

I have had problems with gas and bloating for years. I really can't say for sure

if it is timed to taking the tetracycline or not.

I have occasional headaches.

Last summer I became extremely tired most days. It wasn't even just a " tired "

feeling- I can only describe it as fatigue. With that, understandably, came

feelings of depression but not anything where I felt suicidal. Maybe I can

describe it as mild depression. I also lost motivation to do many things and

started procrastinating even stupid little things that require next to no

effort. I also feel sort of in a daydream at times, which I imagine is the brain

fog people talk about. My glands are swollen off and on, too, but I don't know

what that means. I realized then that I definitely needed to try eliminating

gluten and dairy. I was suspicious of food allergies since my health seemed

downhill after eating NT.

I eliminated dairy and gluten for a few weeks, and had terrible stomach pain,

nausea, etc. after trying to reintroduce them. I took the York IgG test and have

multiple food allergies. Oddly enough gluten or any of the gluten grains didn't

show up, but I still avoid them because I know they bother me.

I have been gluten and dairy free for almost 10 months. I have avoided all my

other IgG's for 6 months, and I am still not feeling much better. I don't feel

as bad as I did last summer, but I am still fatigued some days and I still

experience bloating on many days.

I have tried many supplements, like sublingual B-12, l-glutamine, etc. Nothing

seems to be helping, except HCl with betaine is definitely helping my digestion.

I also recently started taking a product called Natural Cellular Defense that is

supposed to detoxify heavy metals and that is doing something since the first

dose. It is giving me more energy, but I still feel a fatigue behind the energy,

if that makes any sense at all. I guess it would be similar to drinking coffee

but still feeling low energy, because it is a false sense of energy.

I should mention that some of my IgG's that I had a low to high reaction are

foods that naturally contain yeast. I think there might be a connection there.

They are grapes, mushrooms, brewer's yeast, cucumbers (which can be pickles),

and lettuce, although I am not sure if lettuce naturally contains yeast or not.

With the exception of the lettuce, these are all foods that I either don't eat

or rarely eat anyway, so I don't know where the allergy came from.

Okay, this has gotten extremely long! I am sorry, and I hope someone has read

this far. Since I haven't been to a doctor, I am wondering if these sound like

typical Candida symptoms. I think I am doubting because I don't have many of the

symptoms, like skin problems, nasal problems, diarrhea or constipation, etc.

Welcome Olif,

Here's instructions to do a Candida home saliva test. I think it's accurate. I

had previous Candida tests done and knew I had it before doing the saliva test.

Sounds like you may have it. Did you take anything to treat the Candida while

on the diet?

You should probably be taking anti-fungals - grapefruit seed was what I was told

to start on. And probiotics.

Thanks, Beth. I just took the test, and it is definitely positive. I have heard

mixed things about the test, but with it being positive and with all my

symptoms, I am going to try treating it. It doesn't seem there is any harm in

naturally treating it without a sure diagnosis.

I also just finished Tired- So Tired by Dr. Crook. Finally I find a book that

combines food intolerance, with leaky gut, Candida, chemical sensitivities,

thyroid/adrenal problems, and toxic metal overload! It seems that most books

deal with only one issue. For the first time, I can finally start to understand

how everything is connected!

The cookbook has just arrived at my library. Until I pick it up, I am unsure

where he stands on whole grains for the beginning stages of his diet. I am truly

worried about starving myself on meat and veggies only. A meal of 2-3 tacos with

corn tortillas will fill me up for hours. A meat and veggies meal just doesn't

do it. If I add potatoes to that I am fine. I already eat an unprocessed diet. I

really don't want to lose weight either, although anything 5 pounds or less

won't hurt my health. I think I have a pretty fast metabolism, especially since

cutting out my food allergies.

What mixed things have you heard about the saliva test?

I know what you mean about losing weight. I've been concerned because I've lost

about 20 lbs. since February. What about adding brown rice to your meat and

veggies?

can't have gluten grains or amaranth. I have felt funny with quinoa, but I

always had maple syrup in it. I will try it plain and see how I feel, but I

suspect that I can't tolerate it.

Why don't most Candida diets allow berries? They are lower in sugar than some

veggies. I am confused about that. I think only one source I read allowed

strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. I haven't seen it anywhere else.

My husband and I would die if it weren't for brown rice - it's the major

thing that stopped him losing weight.

We are following the diet (mostly) in the Yeast Syndrome, and they have

a 4 phase diet. You are allowed berries in phase 3, which we are in. I

found that cranberries recently allowed me to get over my flu - very

helpful!

I think everyone must find the diet that best suits them. We have leaky

gut (and therefore food sensitivities) and IBS and so we can't eat a lot

of the things that are allowed. By trial and error, we have found the

things that help us.

My library doesn't have this book. Is there a website that explains this diet?

I, too, have leaky gut and many food sensitivities. It is challenging to work

around when you are trying to further limit your diet, yet still get variety in

order to avoid more sensitivities!

Are you starting to feel improvement, Keen? Also, do you worry about rotating

brown rice every 4 days or not? I am also going to try teff and millet. I have

never had them before.

I have been eliminating my food sensitivities for about 6 months now without any

real improvement. Well, I am not overly fatigued most days any longer, but I

still don't have any real energy. My anti fungal arrived in the mail yesterday,

and I am hoping my probiotic will be here today. I have to understand a little

more about what foods I am avoiding before I start.

Good morning Olif!

I wondered about the saliva test because I thought my husband had Candida since

he wakes up with a white coated tongue, has a geographic tongue, and tested

negative. My nutritionist said I could eat whole grains which includes brown

rice (long cooking) on the diet. When I was on the diet years ago, I was

allowed brown rice. Can't find anything that says not to eat it. As far as the

berries, I was told to avoid them for two weeks and then reintroduce them and

kiwi. So that's what I'm a gonna do!

No, there is no website that explains, it, but you can buy it from Amazon. I

got it from the library, so I need to buy a copy of my own as well.

Yes, I do feel a lot better. I can feel that my candida is not a major problem

anymore, now my biggest problem is the leaky gut and the IBS that comes with

that. It is a constant struggle to stay regular and not eat anything that

triggers either food sensitivities or the IBS.

No, I don't rotate the brown rice, I read that it is the food with the least

possibility of causing an allergic reaction. Besides, there is so little we can

eat, I don't want to limit myself on the things that cause no problems.

Give it time, you must also get the candida under control and start to heal your

intestines. My husband is feeling a lot worse than I am, but then his IBS is a

lot worse.

What supplements and herbals are you taking again? Maybe spirulina would help

you to have more energy. I've been on the diet for 8 months now and am only

feeling an improvement for the last month or so. It also depends on how many

toxins you have in your body and how badly your liver is dealing with them, or

how well. Our livers were really bad, and we had way too many toxins in our

systems.

shipping on Amazon! :-)

This is true for sweet potatoes (yams) to!

If you have only recently noticed improvement, have you been taking an

antifungal for that long too or do you just take the antifungals for a couple

months?

is available in the US only by a MLM company. I was skeptical but it came

recommended on a list I trust. Anyway, it is the mineral zeolite in liquid form.

It gave me immediate energy, which probably either means it was eliminating

waste from Candida or heavy metals. I am not sure which. It is available in

Europe in capsule form for much cheaper. I am waiting for mine to arrive.

I also started take Platinum Plus Amino Acids by Dr. Vickery just yesterday. It

includes MSM. It is supposed to be good for digestion, the liver, and much, much

more. It is pretty expensive and not something I will be able to take long term.

I am going to try finding cheaper substitutes if I can.

I started IsoCort for my adrenals yesterday.

Yesterday I also started KandidaPlex and Kolorex for my antifungals, Culturelle

for my probiotic (made by ConAgra- yuck!).

Platinum Plus.

costly all the way out here, though.

Our first naturopath told us not to eat them or sweet corn and, after

trying some sweet corn, I could feel it wasn't doing too well in my

body, so I've never tried sweet potatoes. I'm not very fond of them,

which might also be why.

I've been taking since the beginning. We started with grapefruit seed,

then caprylic acid, then we tried pau d'arco which I found to be very

strong (the die off nearly drove my husband - literally - mad). Now we

rotate, one month of each.

I've not heard about that before. I take a good multivitamin/mineral as

well as extra magnesium. A lady I work with told me that Solgar's

Chelated Magnesium helped her immensely - she took 2 pills three times a

day and it took away her IBS completely.

That's the problem with a lot of the supplements. We are going to try

new digestive enzymes, they are much more expensive so we had to cut out

Colon Ecology to be able to afford the new enzymes. What a pity

everything is so expensive!

Are you taking magnesium for the health of the cells of your gut? We

have found it helped us immensely, but you must take large doses (my

husband is currently taking 1 x 685mg pill with breakfast, lunch and

supper). We take so many pills that we bought a special box to put them

all in so they don't just stand on the lounge table. Every time we cut

one out, we have to add another one. We are going to be adding licorice

root for inflammation, as well as the new digestive enzymes and a new,

soil based, probiotic.
