Guest guest
I posted before about getting tested for yeast through Great Plains or Great Smokies Labs. Here's an update: Great Plains sent me an information book about their tests (I called and asked for something to convince my dr. to use their service; Great Smokies said to go to their Webpage, so choose Great Plains!), and it says that a dr. (MD/DO) doesn't have to sign for their tests. Chiropractors, naturopaths, nurse practitioners, and nutritionists/dieticians are ok, too. That might make it easier on your wallet in dealing w/some of these wacky holistic drs. As I mentioned, the last holistic dr. I saw (a D.O.) kept me waiting in his office for nearly 2 hrs, flounced in w/o apology, and kept falling asleep when he wasn't telling me about the sex he had in college (w/details!). All I cared about was getting him to sign for my stool test from Great Plains. Without insurance, the visit to him would've been $250. (It cost $25 instead.) Either the Great Plains or Great Smokies Labs, if you're into going to use them for testing, will supply you with a list of dr's in your state, area code, or zip code that have used them. It might take some persistence to get a complete list for your area. Everyone seems to use Great Smokies, but I saw the dr. today (a holistic guy in NJ who has a radio program on health) and he said the Great Plains comprehensive stool test would give him all the info he'd get from Great Smokies, and it'll cost me $15 through Blue Cross (~$300-400 otherwise). The number for Great Plains is 913-341-8949; www.greatplainslaboratory.com. I'm pushing for these tests as Dr. Crook's yeast test said I was 'borderline' and didn't say my problems were due to yeast. I don't have many of the classic symptoms (gas, bloating, etc.) After spending $3000 out of pocket, I want something I can hang on the wall to say, " This is what's wrong with me! " <wink> I'm trying to save everyone here the trouble and expense I went through, hence my repeated posts about these tests. I've been on the candida diet for the last 3 wks (meats and veggies only for 2 wks, now into millet for starch; no coffee or sugar, etc.). Today the dr. gave me a prescrip for fluconazole (Diflucan). He was surprised that homemade garlic tea (chop 1 clove per cup water; bring water to a soft boil or to boiling, let it cool a bit; add the garlic. Let it sit for a good hour. Don't boil the water or the active ingredient will be destroyed. Drink a few cups a day.) eliminated my coated tongue w/in an hour (it returned a wk later). It didn't help with the brain fog though. Guest guest
Do you know what tests you have to take for fibromyalgia and candida. Can they use the same sample to check for both.
