Guest guest
Hi Alison, Thanks for the info. This day didn't go well. I had arguments at 7:00a w/my mom and husband and was crying. I didn't want to go to Easter Brunch at my sister's. I didn't want to face the food. All the things I've enjoyed over the years and couldn't eat. Didn't miss the alcohol. I was irritable before going and while I was there. I went to eat a Triscuit I thought was plain which my last doctor allowed, but halfway through I found out it had MSG. My sister said it's Easter go ahead and eat it. I kind of snapped and said I would probably be eating this way the rest of my life and that I've had symptoms for 17 years and want to get well so I can enjoy the rest of my life. Felt a little shaky before eating my salad not sure if it was the MSG or not. I'm also allowed fruit and was having a few strawberries, grapes and melon when my mom says she put sugar on the berries. I stopped eating the fruit immediately. She brought a coffee cake too and when I asked her why (we were asked to bring bagels which were hardly eaten), she said for variety. I asked her why she didn't buy something I could eat and her answer was I can't eat anything. Holidays are so hard when on this diet! Beth Re: Introduction Hi Beth (and all interested others): I take an adrenal supplement called Iso Cort on an as-needed basis (whenever I feel that tiredness creeping up). It has been very effective for me and I get it through a website, http://www.modernherbalist.com, at a price of $26 US for 240 pellets. Ingredients are: Freeze-dried adrenal cortex, Echinacea extract, Prunus spp. and Lomatium Dissectum Root. Each pellet is 5 mg. Product Description/Claims: Herbal Supplement; rebuilds adrenal glands, supports energy & stamina, fibromyalgia and/or candida related fatigue, pain & allergies. Guest guest
Beth, just to let you know this diet is so hard for all of us. Especially when up against family that does not understand. My children are on very strict diets, due to food sensitivities, my Mother-in-law says that they will miss alot of nutrients from foods by restricting them. It helps that my DH is so supportive of whatever I do. But we do not even have those conversations with people who are not educated/resistant to this knowledge. They do not have to answer for you, let them think what they will, and when you get into these situations, just do the best you can and don't worry about. Eat before you go or take your own. Just don't let it stress you out, you are under enough with the changing how you eat and being overwhelmed with knowledge and then you throw on top, the die off symptoms. I just wanted you to know you are not alone we all go thru this to some degree. It would be nice if people could let each other just be, but especially with family they often do not understand. Just keep in mind the way you thought about all this before you became knowledgeable. You know? That helps in having compassion for them so you don't end up losing your friends and family over your health care decisions. I am rambling so I will cut out of here. Just wanted you to not feel alone in this. Hugs, give yourself a hug for doing the best you could. Bev ------------------------ > Hi Alison, > > Thanks for the info. This day didn't go well. Guest guest
Thanks, Bev (same name as my sister). I wish I had read this before I went. I'll save this and reread before the next get together. My husband has been following my diet and he ate all the different foods yesterday. I noticed he was belching, sleepy, and couldn't eat dinner. My niece who's pregnant got a cramp while eating the sugary coffee cake. My nephew ate quite a bit of the coffee cake and he's been taking medication for acid reflux. I can't tell them what to do. I guess they'll have to figure it out for themselves. I just hope they learn something from what I'm going through. Guest guest
I'm sorry you had such a bad time! It's sad that we, as a people, are so used to eating over-processed foods. What's up with the MSG? That's not good for anyone. When I was a vegetarian for 10 years my parents used to make fun of me or ridicule me but low and behold when they came down with health problems they were suddenly turning up at the Health Food Store! Pretty ironic, ay? My stepfather got Prostate Cancer and after the radiation treatments it didn't look good so he did all this research on Natural Cures and took lots of Natural supplements as well as changed his diet. He good now and owes it all to the supplements. Facing food at events is SO HARD. I just look at the Pizza, for example, and think of how sickly, bloated, gassy and tired I will feel. My intolerance to dairy is so bad I would have to be by a bathroom constantly so I fear even going near any. Sugar is hard because we can digest it but eventually just feel crappy. Do you have any diabetics or anyone else with a health condition in your family? Just wondering why she would put sugar on strawberries before serving them. This is a health condition of yours and should be taken seriously. Don't let anyone ridicule you because you are trying to improve your health. Perhaps they feel defensive because you are challenging what they have " been eating/or cooking for years " ? I can see where a Mother would be defensive because it's like you saying that she didn't give you proper food growing up. (Which is most likely not true) I know it sounds crazy but I'm just trying to think of why they would be so defensive/cold about it. Perhaps you could have a discussion with her and just explain to her that while you still love her cooking, your body has changed and you can no longer eat certain foods. You could even rub it in and say how much you miss her cooking or something...hahaha. I know it's hard but you can do it! Good Luck! Guest guest
I forgot to mention - for get-togethers, bring something you can eat and enjoy that you think everyone else will enjoy too. This gets other people interested and aware that diets don't have to be completely miserable. Beth Fish <bethafish@...> wrote: Thanks, Bev (same name as my sister). Guest guest
attitude....attitude Beth, Holidays for me are filled with family and friends. An enjoyable time for everyone. It sounds so sad that this special occasion was a disaster for you. It seems to be enveloped around food. If I was on a strict diet I would not expect anyone not even a sister to provide foods for me. I would take care of myself instead of depending on others, because it just makes them feel guilty. So she bought a coffe cake. That is her choice. If she is using it to tempt you that is her problem. But if she is not... then let them enjoy the coffee cake and let them make the choice to eat it. I refuse to let others take over who I am. I try to the best I can to be pleasant and someone that everyone wants to be around. Laughing and itching at the same time. Guest guest
Liz, Not sure how this old message from Easter got on but I wish it hadn't. Don't feel sorry for me when people much sicker than us and men/women fighting in a war are dying every day. I get a lot of support from my wonderful husband who is a great cook! He prepared a delicious salad for my lunch today that I took to my nephew's for Mother's Day brunch. The longer I'm on this diet the easier it gets. Guest guest
Peggy (aka Dr. ), I was having a good Mother's Day until I got your reply for a message I wrote a month ago. You didn't even get the facts straight. I never said that Easter was a disaster. It was my first holiday since starting back on the Candida diet and it was difficult to be around all the foods I enjoyed for so many years and couldn't eat. It was my mother, not my sister, who bought a coffee cake and she was asked to bring fruit. We were to bring bagels. Well, because my Mom had brought coffee cake the bagels hardly got eaten. That was more the issue than bringing a coffee cake I couldn't eat. I can't believe I'm spending this nice day explaining myself to you. I wish you would either quit answering my posts or keep your opinions to yourself. This isn't the first time you have upset me and stress is not good for any of the conditions I have.
