Was wondering if you had a hypo or hyper glycemia attack? I remember having a

similar experience years ago after eating a choc. candy bar. Not fun. Went to

look it up, but got lost in all the details. Beth

Anxiety/panic reaction from sugars?

Fellow sufferers,

I am inquring as to how many of you (if any) get an anxiety-like reaction if

you eat sugars (natural or refined). It comes on fairly quickly (under one

hour after eating) and lasts quite a while (a few hours). It feels like

anxiety crossed with a panic attack with brain fog all the while. The reason

I ask is that everyone I talk to or read about gets the OPPOSITE reaction if

they eat sugar: fatigue.

Now granted, I will get the fatigue the next day, along with the brain

fog... But in the immediate sense, I experience unbearable

anxiety/painic/freak out. It what I would imagine a blood sugar reaction to

be like, but I have never one (as far as I know).

And here's some more info that I've recently determined - I get the same

reaction (although not as severe) if I eat almost anything from a deli hot

or cold case. This would lead me to believe that it was the mold from the

food sitting around for so long, as I really scrutinize the ingredients

before I buy (we're talking Whole Foods natural deli here, not Safeway or

something).

So then this must be a Candida reaction? Anyone else have similar reactions?

God help me?

Thank you!

I have been having anxiety-panic like feelings after eating for a couple of

months. I also wake up in the middle of the night feeling this way. It seems

to happen after eating certain foods but haven't figured out exactly which

ones. Fatigue used to be the result I got from anything with sugar, apples,

strawberries, even some grains, but now I feel like I am on an adrenaline high

most of the time. I do hate it as much as I hated the fatigue.

It sure sounds like it could be an insulin reaction, :

aka reactive hypoglycemia (which is different from fasting

hypoglycemia)

The high sugar results in an unusual overproduction of insulin, which

drives down blood glucose to where it's then too low. The brain does

not function well because it is low on fuel. So the body secretes

adrenaline, which triggers glucagon which releases sugar from storage

in the liver. But the adrenaline also causes feelings of anxiety,

which might trigger a panic attack, which releases more adrenaline and

on an on.

If it were me, I might test myself by eating sugar, then having some

more every half hour to prevent the dip in blood sugar.

If it is hypoglycemia, the questions arise:

1) Why you? (family history of diabetes or insulin resistance? any

medications? does candida itself play a role? )

2) what to do about it? such as eating protein and fat with any sugar

or refined carbs, etc (besides avoiding the sugar, etc, of course)

this might be a separate cause: the leaky gut letting unintended

substances (especially proteins or peptides) get to the brain,

mimicking neurotransmitters, etc

About 10 years ago I would have horrible heart palpitations, always

seemed to be at night (probably just noticed since I wasn't running

around). The feeling would feel like a panic attack in a sense since

I was scared too - my heart would stop beating then boom boom boom,

catch up, this would go on for about an hour or so. Had a bunch of

heart tests done and they said that my heart will skip a bunch of

beats then catch up throughout the day, but this is normal for me and

shouldn't hurt me. I kinda lived with it for a while. Then I

noticed the correlation to sugar. If I eat sugar it will happen.

Since this has been going on for 10 years I don't think it has

anything to do with the anti candida diet but maybe the candida

itself or how my body processes sugar. Now since I am used to it and

my heart checks out, when it does happen I don't have much anxiety

but boy does it feel bad. I have found that since I am taking

magnesium they do not happen so often and now that I really avoid

carbs and refined sugars it doesn't happen much at all. Natural

sugars like in fruit do not seem to cause the problem to the extent

that it bothers me.

Dear and all others

My name is Janna and I've just now joined this list.

For symptoms you've described here I can tell you that I recognize

them too well!!! I've had severe candidosis for as long as I can

remember and I have very often, severe anxiety and almost panic

attacks among with trembling and shivering. To ease these symptoms I

use passion fruit influsion or pills.

How do you deal with it?

And for all those suggesting to avoid all sugars- I am much

disciplined person and recently I had suffered " Candida attack " so, I

got completely off all sugars and the outcome was not good. After 3

weeks I felt severe sugar drops. I even fainted due to complete lack

of strength. Has anyone experienced these severe symptoms?

Sincerely

Janna

Ah, ok. This really makes sense.

Uh... Well. If you knew how I reacted to even a little bit of sugar, you

would understand that that sounds like a death mission. Or at least a very

uncomfortable situation (not to mention the Candida flare up).

I don't think it's hypoglycemia, or at least the tests I've gotten don't

indicate that. No family history of it.

Hmmmm... That's an interesting angle too. I feel that I do have leaky gut.

Thank you so much for your input, A.B. :-) Always helpful :-)

Hi Becca,

Well, if it helps you at all, this is what I have found that triggers it:

- Sugars of any kind (except Xylitol or Stevia)

- Refined carbs such as chips, rice noodles, rice crackers, etc.

- And here's the real crappy one: deli cases, or take out from restaurants.

Not always, but I'd say 3/4 of the time. And I even really try to watch the

ingredients! So I've determined it must be the mold from the food sitting

out all day.

- And I've also noticed that if I eat a lot of fatty foods, the the

reactions get worse / more common until my liver has cleared up.

Anyone else figure out any patterns to this crap? :)

The only way I have found to squelch it when it happens is through

tranquilizers (Valium, Ativan, Xanax, etc).

Does the passion fruit infusion work well? Are the effects pretty immediate?

I hate taking the tranqs, but I usually don't need them as long as I stay

REALLY strict on the diet (which after a year now is getting really

old+tiring).

Wow, haven't had that. But I do know that my body does not tolerate sugars

of any kind, AT ALL. I've been off them for close to a year or maybe a

little more.

I am learning though that your liver plays a huge roll in all this. Have you

done any liver cleansing? Or tried a liver-compatible diet? I was eating a

lot of cashews (Planters, not raw) and my symptoms and sensitivity to things

was much worse. Now that I've stopped, I am feeling noticeably better. Have

to respect the liver!
