Hey,

I have been limiting my carbohydtare intake for a while now and

feeling fine. However i decided at the weekend that i would try and

eliminate all carbohydrates for a couple of weeks. I have only been

eating veggies(raw and steamed) and a few eggs here and there. I feel

ok for it but just a bit weak with not so much physical power. Before

i would eat brown rice and lentils and stuff. Is this normal? Can i

carry on with NO carbohydrates for a while or not?I am not

underweight but maybe a little under my ideal weight.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Danny,

Get a copy of the Atkins diet book. It explains about low carbohydrate diets,

how your body uses fat for energy and may answer many of your questions.

Although I'm not overweight, I have been on Atkins for over a month now. I

have just recently begun to get my energy level back. This may in part be due

to winning the war against my candida. I can definitely relate to the feeling of

loss of physical power. I think my body got used to all the refined carbs I used

to eat. Go easy on strenuous exercises for a while if you need to and give

your body a chance to heal.

Changing to a low carb diet is a challenge for anyone and probably even

more difficult if you have candida. If you find that your diet is too grueling

add

some carbs. The important thing is the long term. Take pride in the fact that

you refuse to feed this parasite and are starving it back into line. Hang in

there

and give it time.

Many people make this mistake of confusing " ketosis " , a perfectly normal and

natural function of the body, with " ketoacidosis " . Ketosis means that your body

is burning fat for energy and as a byproduct of this, creating ketones. This is

something we all do and is not harmful.

Ketoacidosis is something that can happen to diabetics if they consume

excessive carbohydrates. There is no correlation between the two terms and

they are, in fact, polar opposites.

As for a high protein, low carb diet being " dangerous " this is a myth. The high

carb diet that causes fluctuation of blood sugar and insulin levels is where the

real danger is. High blood pressure, atherosclerosis, heart disease, low levels

of beneficial HDL, and cancers are all associated with elevated insulin levels.

And it's no wonder. No culture in world history has consumed even a fraction

of the sugar and other refined carbos that we 21st century Westerners do.

Obesity in our society is at an all time high as are many other health

problems. There is a clear cause and effect correlation here.

You can find more information about this in Dr. Atkin's book.
