Guest guest
No, I've got lots of family but they're all busy living their own lives. I finally decided to tell my Mum what's really going & printed out some stuff for her to read - she said she'd come over but no sign of her yet. My Dad may be showing the first signs of Alzheimer's, she has congestive heart failure & torn shoulder muscles - she really has enough to take up her time which is why I've kept the seriousness of my disease to myself til now. I didn't think things were all that bad but my doctors seem to agree that things are not good. I just don't know what to do next. Guest guest
I' ve kept my brothers & sisters informed about my condition but there's only one still in town ( my favourite brother, Mike) The rest are spread between B C and Sault Ste. I have 2 brothers that I haven't spoken to in years. I saw them at my parents 50th anniversary party in 1999 - nothing since & I don't miss them at all. Guest guest
Honey please do what your doctor suggested and see the doctors in Toronto about a transplant. You don't have to get it but you will have all the information on if you are a good candidate.Think about it and see if there is something more that can be done to get those ammonia levels down.Your family doctor should be able to do that. You are on a fixed income and I beleive you can get inhome care through Social Services with a doctors note stating that you need it.Check on it hon. Guest guest
You’re doing the right thing, letting your Mum in on it. I know mine would be seriously pissed if I’d been keeping it from her. Suzie, honey, even if you don’t want a transplant; the fact that the doctor wants you to get worked up for one means things are not looking good. Let your family in on the whole truth. Guest guest
Hi everyone! Thank you for your advise...I actually spoke to Dr Keim and he also suggested Dr Horton and two others down in Miami. After my last revision surgery and the 60 days spent in NYC while my husband and kids were in SC, I don't know if I could endure being so far from home. I saw a doctor here in Savannah(1st opinion) he was skeptical about doing the surgery because of the life or death consequences...but he wanted me to have a 2nd opinion with Dr Dewberry...who said it could be done and that the 2 doctors would do the surgery together. I had such anexiety about having the negativity in the room during such a serious operation but, when I spoke to my Gyno and my Internist they said that Dr Dewberry was the best in the area. So my surgery was set for Jan 22. Last week the nurse called to inform me that they had to postpone the surgery until Feb. Hello? Was that a sign or what?! So here I am taking back the control and trying to find out as much as I can about getting at a minimum of 1-2 additional opinions. Last time I had surgery I was flying blind...I had never heard of flatback and didn't know that there were other people just like me out there. It wasn't until I had the wonderful fortune of meeting Edie in the hospital that I found out I was far from alone, I wish I had known before my surgery, but now I am determined to do everything in my power to be prepared for #2. I welcome any and all information or advise....PLEASE let me in on anything helpful!! I am in agony and have had to spend most of the past 3 months in bed with only brief peroids of time up. I am walking as if I were 95 yrs old. Sorry I hate to be a bummer! I wish I were back intouch with better circumstances too! I better hop off of here. To the gals from my area please feel free to contact me! SuzieQ
Guest guest
Hi Suzie, Sorry you are having these issues.. are these new complaints or are they old ones that have gotten worse? I seem to remember you had (foot drop?) or something like that and a couple other complications the last time we spoke (about a year ago?)... On a personal note: I hope things are well with the Mr and his work situation.. feel free to email me... Take good care and I hope you get to a top surgeon for the next opinion!!
