Guest guest
Joan & Loes, Thanks for your replies on 6MP. Can you be specific about the sun reactions? I know that I need to limit my exposure to the sun, but are there special precautions that I should take? Loes, did you experience the hair loss and rash on 6MP or some other drug? I noticed that in the PDR that the pills are in 50mg doses only. They look like they would be hard to split for smaller doses, so I, too, will probably have to buy a pill splitter. Have either of you had any problems with pancreatitis while on 6MP? I was told to report any abdominal pains immediately to my gastro. He said that on the 6MP I would have less of a chance of experiencing nausea or vomiting than on Imuran. Is that true those who have tried both? Were you told to change the way you brush your teeth or the way you shave while using 6MP? I noticed there was a warning about this is the PDR, so I am curious. Thanks again. Meanwhile I called my doctor and he lowered my 6mp prescribtion to 25mg. The hair loss is a lot better! And since yesterday the rash is getting a bit better. And I also feel a lot better. Hope it stays this way. End of the month I will have blood work done. I will let you know what the outcome is. And 50mg 6mp is a very low dosage. I had to buy a special medicine cutter to cut the pills in half (under 50mg they are not available). > > Good luck and let us know how you are doing. > > Greetings > > Hello everyone, > > Went to the doctor last week told him about my tiredness and skin rash. He changed my prescription from imuran 50 mg to 6mp 50mg. I also use 10 mg prednison. He hoped that the skin rash would disappear. But it very rapidly got worse, a lot worse (the itching too). My whole back, neck, shoulders are covered. its even in my hair, on my whole chest to my belly and i think it continues to spread; also small spots on my arms, face and legs. Does any of you have experience with this. Will the spots and the itching go away after a couple of weeks once my body is a bit used to 6mp or should I call him and call for help? They say it is not contagous is this true? I am a little worried for my family. > > I am only using it for a couple of days now but so far I don't have any joint or muscle pains like i normally have when I use imuran. Guest guest
Hi , I've always had sun-reactions. Even bad blisters if I went in the sun without protection, even if I was just walking for about half an hour. I use a very good sunblocker 'Vision pf 8 or 16'. This is great stuff, this way I can enjoy the sun. I do watch out not to stay in the sun too long and also not at the middle of the day. About the rash I had that with Immuran as well but while I started with 6mp it immediately got worse and started spreading. However after a couple of weeks it got better. It is now about the same as with the immuran. I believe my organs can't handle all the poison I put into it (prednison and 6mp) so my skin is another way out for the pollution. The hairloss I had never experienced that. Boy was I scared for a while. But with the lower dosage it is better. I don't have any problems with pancreatis. And from 6mp I experience more nausea than Immuran. But when I drink a glass of water or eat something it seems to disappear. So this is not such a big problem for me. They never told me to change the way to shave or to brush my teeth. I did experience some little sores inside my mouth. So I try to brush more gently and if I remember a bit more often to keep it tidy in there. I do know that when I shave my legs and should I cut my self or whatever it takes a lot longer for such little wounds to heal. But I had that with Immuran as well. If you have more questions, do ask away. Should I experience more or other side effects I will let you know. Take good care!! Guest guest
That snow all sounds so lovely! So picturesque! [ ] Re: 6MP Loes, Thank you for the information on 6-MP. Before I was diagnosed with AIH, I seldom took any medications (even for headaches), so I am really apprehensive about drugs. I guess with AIH that will change and soon. Thank you for helping me prepare for possible side effects. Also want to let everyone know that it is still snowing here. The heavy sighs you can hear probably all the way to the Netherlands are from the farmers in our area. This snow will tremendously relieve their irrigation worries. However, even with the 20 inches the mountains are supposed to receive, the snow pack is well below normal. We got about six inches down here in the valley yesterday, and the weather man forecasts that much again today. Two inches of new snow has fallen already this morning. Thanks again for the information and for relieving my anxiety. -- snow-covered, but HAPPY in Wyoming
