Guest guest
HI Terry, I've had a CT mylegram, and a Lumbar Puncture and Injections into the SI Joint. None of them hurt, just a mild prickly feeling when they give the anesthetic shot. Really no big deal. It may be because of prior surgeries and resulting numbness where they insert the needle. That's just a guess as to why it doesn't hurt much. Bonnie [ ] myelogram Hi,Wanted to know from those of you that have had a myelogram what toexpect? I'm suppose to get one done 2 months before I have surgerywith Dr. LaGrone. I'm looking forward to the surgery, but not themyelogram, something about a needle in my back doesn't sound fun. Ithink I have watched Dr. House too much! Thanks, Terry
Guest guest
Hello, I would like to ask you all if anyone had to have a Myelogram before their revision surgery? The reason I ask is that I had one before my original surgery and actually found it worse than the surgery itself, probably because I can remember it all. I was laying face down in a hard plastic cot, which was very uncomfortable, and then despite sitting upright in bed for 12 hours, got the most horrendous headache I have ever had which made me very ill. I had been thinking of refusing a myelogram if I am told I should have one, but then am worried that they won't have the full info on me. Or am I just worrying about something thats not going to happen anyway? Or has the procedure changed for the better in the last 16 years? Has anyone any advice for me please? Thanks Kat x
Guest guest
Kat, About 10 year before my revision, and for an unrelated matter, I was having a CAT scan with contrast dye and I reacted to it. It started out sneezing, wheezing, coughing...throat slowly closing...before they got the (I think) epinefrin or benadryl or whatever they used into me. They told me to always note this in my medical records and not to use contrast again. Scroll forward to the time before revision. I had several MRI's and CT scans, but without contrast...I don't know if this impaired the surgeon at all in the plannig stage. Nothing about my condition indicated anything more than the usual flatback type stuff was going on. So. That said, if I could have had contrast dye in my body, and my surgeon thought it was important enough to have done...I would go with his recommendation. If you speak to him about your past experience and reservations about proceeding with this...perhaps a less invasive image will do. It never hurts to ask. Thats my $.02! Guest guest
sorry, i do that alot,, anyway, 10 weeks later I was dragging my left foot and having alot of pain still when I went for my checkup and my surgeon said something was terribly wrong and he needed to get to the bottom of it. He wanted and mri with contrast and the myelogram done asap. so I said I'll find someone to bring me over to the hospital and do 1 test and the next day do the other. NO. you need to go to the hospital now and have the tests done asap. NO. I said we'll do it my way.. well, he went to the waiting room and got my husband and told him something.. I never found out what because my husband said he forgot. and they came back into the room and he stated his case again to my me admitted. now... my husband said. ok,,, I just looked at him and he gave me the LOOK like don;t even go there. So I had the mri that nite and myelogram next morn. and 2 days later surgery. L5 had broken in half and fell into spinal canal and was inpinging on cord and sicatic nerve. and I had alot of bone spurs also that had broken from the hardware and were in the spinal canal. so I had more hardware installed to prevent L5 from breaking again. I have alot of pain and now have the complex pain reflex syndrome. so I am being referred to a complex pain managament dr. do you know what that is? It sounds like yours in from the neck going down right? did you get a bad headache? diid they tell you to lie flat 24 hrs. they did me and I did get a headache plus a bad, bad case of nausea. that lasted about 3 days. because I had it after surgery. Hope this helps. some, Jefferie   JEFF ! Guest guest
I hope all goes well with your neurosugeon, I think mylegram is the single worst test anyone can go through. It is painful, nerve racking, long, and causes so many other problems afterwards, Horrible Headache sometimes, groin pain. I had 2 of these tests within 18 months of each other, I cried like a big baby. - On Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 6:44 PM, < ljorichardson0912@...> wrote: > > I had a mylegram today and I don't think I EVER want another one of these. > I see the neurosurgeon on Wed. Guest guest
I have a discogram coming up, it sounds like the same test. They inject a dye and use a CT to see where the needle is. They inject into 3 discs, 1 good and the other bad ones...I guess they inject only the ones that are bad, for me it's like 4. They need to keep you lucid so they can hear you tell them when it hurts and where. They are doing this to me on the 4th. They also found a herniated cervical disc, c7. They are going to do an injection first. I have to say that I am soooo sick of being stuck, I am deathly afraid of needles, and even thinking about it makes me anxious. I just had an epidural injection and I cried like a baby! It made my pain worse, and I am having a hard time getting around, even more than before. I am soooooo tired of dealing with this! Also I am really afraid of the unknown...that makes me anxious too! I am a mess!! Freaked out, scared and wondering what next!!! I would love to crawl into a hole and never come out right now!! I am just frustrated and sick of it all. And as much a I hate all of the stuff they have to do, I want them to get it done, like yesterday, so I can get to healing and back to some version of normal! Sorry for the rant, I am just sick of it! I miss hiking and camping, running and being able to play with my kids! > > > > > I had a mylegram today and I don't think I EVER want another one of > these. > > I see the neurosurgeon on Wed. I already have fusion of c4-5 and now > they > > are looking at fusion of c2-4. Guest guest
I hate to be negative about a test, but seriously this is the worst test EVER. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but what they do during this test should be outlawed!! The doctor that ordered mine is not the doctor I chose to perform my surgery. When I went to the new doctor he couldn't believe that anyone still asked to have this test performed!! He said that he got everything he needed from the MRI and that test should never be used. It is old, outdated and the worst test that can be performed. I have to agree. I have never been in that much pain in my life and it doesn't go away. It stays for hours. I had a little bit of Valium before hand, but it didn't help. The needles were slightly painful going in, but not too bad. The first injection (into a good disc to get a level set of my pain) didn't hurt at all. The next one into a ruptured disc hurt, bad, but nothing I couldn't deal with. The next one nothing, because it wasn't damaged. The last one and the one that was totally gone caused me more pain than child birth!! I was screaming so loud my husband heard it in the waiting room and tried to come running to get me. I don't mean to scare anyone, but if you can avoid this test...DO!!! > > > > > > > > I had a mylegram today and I don't think I EVER want another one of > > these. > > > I see the neurosurgeon on Wed. I already have fusion of c4-5 and now > > they > > > are looking at fusion of c2-4. Guest guest
Really what do they hope to achieve from this test? I have a bone survey done every year, it is a serious of x-rays of the large bones in the body, they also include the spine. They are able to tell exactly what is what. I suppose the doctors feel the Myelogram is cheaper than a MRI. Jan (Fargo)
Guest guest
I have had like 4 MRI's, 3 on my lower back and one on my cervical spine. They showed them all the damage, the herniated discs, the DDD, the stenosis, annular tears, and all that jazz. I seriously think they just want to make me hurt more. And I am hoping that it doesn't hurt as bad as the epidural. The needle didn't hurt that much, I could deal with that, but when they put in the dye and the steriod it felt like when the dentist was drilling and hit a nerve. I seriously about came off the table for that. UGHHH...I am really dreading this, and I think I am going to have to have it done twice, once on the Lumbar and then on the cervical...ARGGGHHHHH! I am sooooo scared! And my hubby can't be in the room with me? Why is that? Guest guest
Only one worse, for me, was a diskogram. I cried big alligator tears. Lexie
