Guest guest Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Larry I am still new here to, and still don't know much either. I have had a few x-rays as well in the past few years and they said that they all looked good. Well, they said I had pulled my back or strained my back it should heal in a few days or a week to take it easy, well I fell for it many times, in the past, and it did feel like it had gotten better from time to time. The past few years now it has been with me a lot more, and has been with me now 24/7 for over a year now. I know it isn't just a strain or that I pulled something, heal in a few days my butt. I told them that I know there is something wrong, so they gave me more and more prescription that didn't do anything to me the pain was still there. I can't work, it is hard to do even the little things around my house and to handle my 5 month old puts me into tears sometimes. I would say thank you and walk out the ER in tears and go home feeling so hurt inside and out. It was like them telling me I am OK and I can go back to work I am fine. Well, my sister made me appointment with a back dr. and he sent me for an MRI and guess what, he said that it showed that I have a bulging L 5 S 1 disk, well this time I thanked the dr. and still walked out crying. I knew there was something that was causing me so much pain that won't just go away. Now I go for a serried shot at the end of the month I hope that helps. Good luck, and don't be like I was and just let them send you on your way, when we feel the pain and they can't see anything, we need to tell them to look closer. Sorry I went on and on. Hope you feel better and the same goes for everyone out there. Happy Holidays... Vicki
Guest guest Report post Posted December 5, 2003 It sounds to me like they are going to just a plain old xray.....can you call them to verify what it is they will be doing? We went through the state for my husbands care and they have referred to everything by its correct name myelogram, mri, cr scan etc....i would assume an xray is just that....an xray?! My husband had xrays done in the beginning, and it did prove that " something " was wrong with his L5 S1, but from the xray it only looked as though he had a buldge. The myelogram actually showed it was a rupture, not a buldge, and it pinpointed where and what nerves were conflicted by the rupture. If you havent had an MRI in 16 years, i think id be getting on the horn and persuading someone to do one of those rather than just an xray, i just dont think they can identify enough to bother with.......but thats just my opinion of course If your in pain you already know something is wrong, right? An xray isnt going to tell them much more than that. ~~TinaMarie www.GoldenMagnolias.com x-ray Hi group .....Larry here its been a few weeks now since i have posted. however i have a question. i know there are alot of people out here!, and i sure hope some one can help me with this question. i have an appointment for an x-ray. i had an MRI 16 years ago. but my question is . these days do they ( the state) classify an x-ray as an MRI OR a CT SCAN ,cause i know by reading many of your posts out here there are oh my god numerous of types of cat scans . MRI's and on & on & on. so are x-rays classified as MRI's or just a regular ole x-ray ?. cause i have had a plain ole x-rayfor other things before and i just don't think they show anything. so im really hoping there talking either MRI or mylogram ( spelled it wrong i know ). HELP ... the last one i had was 16 years ago and i finally was approved for one( x-ray ) this month. god im so glad. well i would go on but i know ,,,god i know so many of us out here go through so much and i know it feels so good to hear about anything in our favor thats helps us along our journey of pain and i know or i hope i know you know what i mean. well group that is my question and i hope to hear from you!, any of you.....Larry

Guest guest Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I wish you all the luck Larry. I remember you from a fwe conversations ago, and youve been in pain for too long with no answers. Sometimes you have to remind the medical professionals just exactly who is paying whom Im not coming down on anyone in the medical field at all, i just think sometimes they dont realize what kind of pain someone is in and that we know our bodies and when something isnt right. Stand up for yourself, and i hope yuou get the answers and help you deserve ~~TinaMarie www.GoldenMagnolias.com x-ray > > > Hi group .....Larry here its been a few weeks now since i have > posted. however i have a question. i know there are alot of people > out here!, and i sure hope some one can help me with this question. > i have an appointment for an x-ray. i had an MRI 16 years ago. but > my question is . these days do they ( the state) classify an x-ray as > an MRI OR a CT SCAN ,cause i know by reading many of your posts out > here there are oh my god numerous of types of cat scans . Guest guest Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I must say, finding the medical professional to help me was frustrating. I called 20 orthopedic surgeons and spinal doctors and only 3 were willing to deal with a back issue. I have had 4 epidural injections by a physiatrist (sports medicine doctor), who was unwilling to even suggest surgery. But I saw another physiatrist yesterday, who told me that I had permanent nerve damage because of the loss of sensation and reflex on my left foot and it could get worse to the point where I lose the function of my left leg. He said that since the conventional approaches haven't worked, I should really consider the microdiskectomy. For the first time, someone took the time to explain to me that time passing could result with more damage to my nerves and in fact, the success of the microdiskectomy can be limited if I have scarring on the compressed nerve. So, I wish that the physiatrist who did my injections had provided me with all the information and given me the option of surgery and basically, given me the real scoop about nerve damage. But I was really lucky to have secured the appointments with these specialists but I kept on calling and asking so see if there were cancellations, so persistence works in these situations. For example, originally, my initial visit with this neurosurgeon was scheduled out to February 2004, which was his first availability for new patients. After another phone call, I was moved in to Dec 24 2003 but was contacted the next day because there was a cancellation. Lesson learned is, if you don't push, you don't get. It also pays to do research to learn as much as you can about your symptoms and possible diagnosis. I've read several books on sciatica pain and they've been helpful. And this support group has been instrumental in helping me feel more comfortable about my upcoming microdiskectomy and that it will be done by a neurosurgeon. Thanks everyone! x-ray > > > > > > Hi group .....Larry here its been a few weeks now since i have > > posted. however i have a question. i know there are alot of people > > out here!, and i sure hope some one can help me with this question. > > i have an appointment for an x-ray. i had an MRI 16 years ago. but > > my question is . these days do they ( the state) classify an x-ray as > > an MRI OR a CT SCAN ,cause i know by reading many of your posts out > > here there are oh my god numerous of types of cat scans . Guest guest Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Personally, I wouldn't worry about it since there's nothing magnetic with the x-rays. I'd definitely ask the x-ray technician firsthand, though - see what s/he thinks. ~Andy X-ray Hello, This just hit me. My son is supposed to get a hip x-ray tomorrow at the orthopaedists' office - just a routine exam. But, are there any precautions I need to make since he has his CI now? I assume we take all of his external CI parts off. Thanks, Kim (Jaxon and Brixon's mom) --- [Pre-scanned for viruses by Internet America.]

Guest guest Report post Posted April 20, 2004 Kim, I've had several x-rays since my surgery and I've never had to take my processor off, in fact, I had knee surgery in January and they let me keep my ci on the whole time too! It's the mri that you have to take the special precautions with but regular x-rays won't be a problem. Hugs, Silly MI In , " Curt & Kim " <cwuellne@i...> wrote: > Hello, > > This just hit me.
