Guest guest
Dear Lorrie, I haven't experienced the bladder relief, never has been a problem for me. It was good to hear from you, I've been concerned about you. Being down at this stage with all the complications you had is completely normal, and as you said the med's maybe the culprit. Are you still on the patch? Maybe when they shift you to just oral med's this will straighten out, but please let your Doc know you are feeling depressed, and make sure he gets it. This is a burden on top of what you have been through that they should be able to fix. My doc had to monkey around with my med's, and I was thankful he listened. My doc is Indian, and sometimes when talking to him he doesn't get the fine art of slang, and I kept telling him that Darvoset got stuck in my neck, he just didn't get it, kept saying " what you mean " , finally I just told him it didn't go down well, felt like it set in my neck instead of going directly to my stomach. We still laugh about the stuck in the neck pills. Just really work with you doc, med's can cause mood alterations in one person and not the next. For some of us the recovery part is longer, and you need your energy and not to be so blue, and if your med's are the culprit, make your doc listen and change them. Have your husband and your Mom speak to him to get the point across. I'm here in Colorado pulling for you, you are so brave, and just chime in we are here for support, and you have all of mine! Guest guest
Yes you are soooo right – I do have a really great doctor that is monitoring me on the pain meds and I see him on the 26th. Yes – I’m still on the patch and maybe when the dosage gets lower I will start to feel better. But, maybe that isn’t the answer and there could be another combination of drugs that would be better. I’ll make him aware of that. This group is so wonderful. Lorrie From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Kirkaldie Sent: Monday, January 16, 2006 12:23 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Better bladder! Guest guest
Lorrie,You have been on my mind so much lately and I keep thinking they need to get you off of that patch and on something else (that you can at least stop taking if it does funny stuff to you). No, I may not have any clue what I am talking about, but it just seems to me that if there is any small chance that you are having adverse reactions to that form of pain management, it would be a good idea to stop it and rule it out, if not solve some of the problems.I hope you do talk with your doctor soon and let him know that you think things could be better. When I went from 2 Oxycodone ER (extended release) to 1 a day, I threw up twice in a very short time. It took me awhile to deduce that the withdrawal from pain meds could be the culprit, but when I mentioned it to Bernie about a week later, she said she hears that a lot and that if I wanted, I could back off to every other day before stopping completely, which is what I did. All this to say, if I had asked her about it immediately, I wouldn't have been so bothered by the nausea and thought of every horrible reason that I might be reacting that way. I even jumped to the kooky conclusion that I had developed some terrible infection! At least I'll know better after the next surgery! There are lots of forms of pain management and lots that have really bad side effects for certain people. My family reminds me on occasion how grumpy the narcotics make me. I know they are right, but I can only imagine how grumpy I'd be if I just felt the pain without any meds! It makes me laugh...which is also excellent medicine. My husband I are both praying that I haven't completely lost my 'old self' and that I will return to the positive, upbeat, encouraging woman that I used to be in just a short while. I pray that this part of the journey will remain in perspective for you and that we will both be so happy with who we are for the next leg of it that we have contagious joy! Oh, and congrats on the bladder improvement. It is so nifty to discover that things that were a bother have serendipitously improved!!!Hang in there (and I will too),kam
Guest guest
Lorrie, Glad you are seeing benefits of the surgery that are unexpected! In the month before surgery I had the opposite problem....after a long day on my feet I knew I had to go, but couldn't..very frustrating. It all went away after surgery and is normal now. I think some of the nerves in the lower spine control the bladder...and squeezing them together probably has lots of consequences! I am sorry you were feeling blue yesterday. It is a long haul getting to feeling good...and you are still early in the game. I know you will take this in the spirit which in which this advice is given...please consider calling your doctor and tell him how down and ill you are feeling and ask if he can order a med change. I know you said you will have to wean off the fentanyl patch anyway...so why not see if you can attempt a transition earlier? I hate to think of you waiting another week and a half if you could begin something new with an over the phone conversation. If you are not able to summon the energy to go about your daily activities and feel good about it ....maybe you need to be a little more insistant that this drug " cocktail " is not working for you. I don't for a minute think you should be in pain...just try a different combo. Can you tell yet if the post-surgical pain & swelling is subsiding or is it too undifferentiated to tell? I think I can fairly say that it has been only recent (10 months post- op) that I feel good most of the time...strong, capable, not focused on my back. You will get there...you are a stong woman and you have been through lots in your life. In a few more weeks I feel sure that you will begin to feel so much better that you will even surprise yourself! Best wishes, Cam
