Debbie.... ammonia tests are not part of your " LFTs " it is not a

reliable indicator to any kind of liver dmage.... actually as I and some

others have said the only " true " liver FUNCTION tests are : bilirubin;

albumin and prothrombin time....

A SERUM ammonia test really doesn`t say to much... the test is used to

mainly help get an idea of the severity of encephalopathy (when one is

exhibiting signs of it) Because gaseous ammonia much more readily

reaches the brain than serum ammonia the better way to measure it is by

an arterial gas test.....which is a whole `nother ballgame.... !st of

all blood is drawn from a small artery rather than a vien... usually

from the wrist area.... at least that`s where it ws done on me and I`ve

had a least three of them.... 2nd of all it is a " tad " more

uncomfortable than te usual blood draw... it is taken from a vessel tat

is comparatively deep and is surrounde by nerve masses so the person

doing it must be very careful (the needle is insered much more

slowly)... Any way for most of us there is no reason to measure blood

ammonia and it simply (usually) isn`t done in normal blood tests

.....which is why you can`t locate it in your results...

To reitterate: the " brain fog " that everyone is talking about is not

encephalopathy but rather more likely due to the prednisone.... read the

article I sent concerning this...note that the amount of prednisone

taken doesn`t necessarily determine the incidence of brain fog...

it`s either that or you are coming down with Alzheimers or you`re just

naturally goofy... :o)

Jerry

if you had encephalopathy you would know it (or not, as the case may

be... but someone would know it.... its a lot bigger dragon)

Thanks Jerry. Its the same as the blood gas test they do for heart

attacks. They are VERY painful. I know that the brain fog is

different but thanks. I also know that I'm just getting old and I

could've done without you pointing that out!! LOL :?)
