Hi all,

I've been drinking Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi for 18 years. I didn't have any difficulty switching to diet drinks after I heard that a 12 ounce can/bottle of regular soda contains 9 or 10 TEASPOONS OF SUGAR! I drink up to 2 liters a day sometimes. It makes my wife crazy that I drink so much of it.

I prefer Diet Coke most (especially reeeeaaaaallll cold) and then Pepsi One, which is often hard to find. If I can't find Pepsi One in a store I complain about it. If they say they don't sell enough of it to warrant carrying it I simply say, "You can't sell it if you don't have it. I guess I'll spend my money somewhere else!" They hate hearing that because they want as much of my money as they can get.

After Diet Coke and Pepsi One I'll drink Diet Pepsi if that's all I can get, but I don't like it as much as the others. I don't like drinking it from a can, though. It tastes different from a can, but canned drinks cool faster and get colder because aluminum conducts the coolth better than plastic bottles do. Oh, well...what can you do.

I don't like the store brand diet drinks, though. They taste flat to me.

I am not sure that Pepsi One is the same thing as Pepsi Lite. Pepsi One is rather new and I don't remember seeing Pepsi Lite for a long time. But I could be wrong about that.

Everyone, please take good care of yourselves tomorrow. Love and Peace, ie

Dear Denisa,

Thanks for explaining about your substance of choice. I understand better now. I commend you for practicing rigorous honestly, just the same.

I apologize for not remembering our previous chats about the program. I have a major memory problem as a result of all this illness. If you prefer to keep these discussions private just let me know.

My drug of choice was marijuana, followed by alcohol and then cocaine. I was a daily pot smoker for 13 years and I used to wake up early for work so I could get loaded first. And I was the boss!

Cocaine brought me to my knees in 1984. It took everything I had left even though I was just a weekend user. It takes what it takes to bring us to our senses. I thank God for the gentle, loving push I received 3 days before New Year's Eve.

I met my first wife when I was 3 weeks sober and having the wildest, most up and down day I can remember. That's about the way our relationship was, too; Up, down and sideways. We didn't marry until exactly 8 years later and she announced her intention to divorce me almost exactly 3 years after that. Oh, well. We remain close friends even now.

I met my new wife 3 1/2 years ago on AOL. We were married in less than 4 months! Complete opposite of my first marriage, although we also have our ups and downs, mostly courtesy of Social Security.

My point is that I would not have met and married either of these women if I had not gotten sober. They were gifts of the program for me. I wouldn't trade any of my experiences for what I have now.

Everyone, please take good care of yourselves tomorrow. Love and Peace, ie B

Dear ,

So sad to hear of your friend's death. I'm sure he's singing with the angels but it's so hard on the family and friends for years to come. Spend time talking about what you remember about him and share with his wife and children - it's a gift forever!

Love,

Amy

Hi, ie,

Good luck with the whole process of getting ready for a Cochlear

Implant. Some days it can be very trying, but we are all here to help you

through

it.

I had my worse ear implanted, both times. I am so happy that I did.

The little residual hearing I have with a hearing aid (10%) has kept me sane for

over 2 years now. Failure of an implant is VERY unusual, but it does happen.

i got plenty of sound with mine, but no speech discrimination. Having had my

worse ear implanted, this allowed me the " good " ear to use the phone with and

to hear more than nothing or just loud noise. You need to go with your heart

if the surgeon says that either ear is physically ok to implant. Many feel

that the good ear will give a better result. If you read this forum, you will

see that there are soooo many cases of " worst eat implanted with excellent

results " that it almost renders that former opinion invalid. This is just my

opinion. Only you can make the final decision. It is the most difficult one to

be made in the entire process. I wish you guidance and good luck!

Hi ie,

Welcome to the group. I have followed your quest over on the NSF

site. I don't remember hearing about your meeting with DrBoachie,

but I would think if he was willing to give it a " go " you will not

do any better anywhere in this country.

I know travelling for surgery is a huge problem....but most of us

have overcome the logistical problems once we decided the surgeon we

wanted to operate on us was half way across the country....so I know

it is doable.

I have not heard of any exceptionally skilled revision surgeons in

LasVegas...the list we most often recommend for opinions out that

way would be the UCSF docs...Serena Hu and Berven...or go south to

Amarillo to DrLaGrone. If you go east the two you hear about the

most in StLouis are Bridwell and Louis Lenke. But face it, you

are probably going to get on a plane, no matter what.

I hope this helps.

Take Care, Cam

Group,

Talked to Wanda , ie's caregiver, and he's out of the hospital in Las Vegas and doing better. He is off the vent, had the halo removed, and is being fit for a neck brace to hold the good the halo did. He's eating, and is able to sit in his wheelchair. No idea when he will see Boachie again, no appointments as of now, and he's still hoping eventually surgery will happen, hasn't been told it won't. He has a suction unit to keep gunk out of his throat and to keep it from going to his lungs. So all in all his doing much better. Wanda is so glad to have him home and doing better, and loves being able to cook for him. Hold them both in your thoughts.
