Guest guest
Hi June, I was reading our very tiny classified ads for jobs just to see what is out there-they need medical people like crazy, they're offering sign-on bonuses. My insurance policy also offers gym memberships free to a couple places. I tried once at Curves, but they weren't very helpful there, and people were quitting there memberships right and left because of the economy. When I worked as a cashier at the casino, we had a stool to sit on-but didn't get to use it much when it was busy. I think that job-which I had for 18 years, killed my knees(both are replaced) my back and my neck, and because of the terrible air filtering system(from the 50's) gave me COPD. I had though it was a great job for many years, till my knees went. Now that I'm 55 I can go to Ross on Tuesdays for 10% off!! Jeannie ________________________________ From: " birdcrazy624@... I heard that waitresses do have fun on the job, & some of them get pretty good tips. I had a friend who worked as a waitress, & she was happy with her job, but her husband felt she had too much fun, & he directed her into the nursing field. She was happier as a waitress. Guest guest
June, Do you have anything filed at work to cover anything like time you need to take off because of medical reasons or missed days off? My friend had the FMLA form filled out and gave it to her HR. My husband has one also, just in case. It's bad enough to have to work while you're in pain, without the extra worry of losing your job. Guest guest
Jeannie, it was so hard for me to get a job, so I am very careful about having any work restrictions. I have always been careful about not taking any time off for medical reasons, unless it was for a neck cortisone injection. On the days I work, I try to take it easy, so I can work comfortably. At Walmart they have a lot of their employees working part time, so they don't have to give them any benefits. I am one of them, & I don't get sick days, or vacation time. I have low cost health insurance from the state of Mass. The pay is so low, so I can't afford to take any time off without pay. I really miss the benefits, & pay I made at my nursing job. Unfortunately no one wants to hire me as a nurse, because I have some work stipulations placed on my license. I was accused of something I didn't even do, & the Board of Nursing put my nursing license on probation. I couldn't afford a full hearing, to prove my innocence. I have lost my career, home, most of my birds, good income, confidence & dignity. I was even denied unemployment when I was out of work. Thank God, I was able to move in with my elderly mother, who has been very supportive of my challenges. June In a message dated 10/20/2009 1:41:57 A.M. Guest guest
hi june, i am sorry to hear you have had such struggles also over the years. this is not a easy thing to deal with. social security is not easy to live on either but at least better than nothing and more than welfare while i was waiting for ss to come thru. you are blessed to have loving family to live with and i am sure you also are a blessing to your mom too. it was not too long ago that families of many generations lived together and took care of each other and with the way things are going with prices going up, people losing their houses, and lack of jobs or only low paying jobs, i think people in this country are going to be doubling up a lot more again. the last two summers my oldest son and his family lived in my yard in their rv to catch up on bills and help me out some around the house and with my illness. it was not always fun for me to have them that close or for them either i think as we are all pretty independent people but you do what ya gotta do to get by. i use to be an accountant and make $25/hr with great bennefits but i get by on my $847/mo ss now, but there were years inbetween i had no medical insurance that were rough so i am very thankful to have medical care again. take care, wyld From: birdcrazy624@... <birdcrazy624@...> Subject: Re: to June neck pain Date: Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 8:08 AM Jeannie, it was so hard for me to get a job, so I am very careful about having any work restrictions. Guest guest
Dear June, Gosh, you sure have more problems than any one person should have to deal with-I am so sorry. I was hoping I could come up with something that would help-but I see why you have to do things the way you have to. After numerous hospital stays, I think nurses earn every cent of their salary and more. Will your license ever get cleared of it's stipulations? That had to have been a hard time in your life, having to go through all that. I know having insurance is a blessing, and so is having a roof over your head. It's hard watching the news every nite, I should stop, it's so depressing to hear how everyone is struggling. Nevada is the second largest state with unemployment, after Michigan now. People used to think the streets here were paved with gold, not any more. Sorry, I don't mean to sound so depressng, I feel badly about your situation, and hope things will eventually get better for you, and of course with everyone else going through all the hard times. Sincerely, __________________________________________________
