Guest guest
I am not a expert here on tsh but a number of 8 is not going to help you lose weight--the group would say your numbers are still too high to lose weight--they would tell you --you need to adjust your meds. You may also need t3. You have to get your thyroid under a more balance and control first to feel good, next to lose weight and then be able to get pregnant and have a healthy pregnancy --not only for you but also for the baby. And I hate saying this because I am not a doctor, just from all the posts we have on this site. Many here have had babies and they can give you more info on being thyroid and pregnant but there are risks as well. You really have to get healthy first---find a good doctor for this!!!! just my opinion--best of luck to you---and diet---the zone seems to be good for thyroid too---more protein balanced fats (the right ones) veggies and some fruit--I think they add some grains as well---check out this site they have a diet for thyroid people---my daughter follows this one---I'll find it for you----tina > I'm wondering if i'm ever going to lose weight. i do weight watchers > and excersise 40min every day, i'm 35, and people say i'm just > getting old. my tsh was an 8 in sept. i've been on 0.137 > synthyroid and last week my doctor upped it to 0.150 as i felt > horrible. i'm newly married and would like to have a baby but i > don't want to get pregnant with 20lbs extra weight already on. > > can someone give me a diet that will work for me. i don't want to > get technical, i don't understand all the medium chain fatty acids > and the long chain fatty acids, carbs this, carbs that. something > SIMPLE please if anyone knows of any simple weight loss plans
Guest guest
Hi! Keep hanging in there and don't give up. How much weight do you want to lose--was it 20 pounds? How long have you had the added weight? I wish I could give you some diet that would work, but I'm not an expert. I strongly urge you to see a dietician who can help you find a diet that might work for you based on your individual needs, your body chemistry, your particular health issues, and other factors (like you needing something simple). I've been dealing with eating disorders my whole life, and nothing EVER worked for me until I went and saw a dietician in 1990 (I think it was then). I went from 300 pounds to 135 pounds. Basically, I stopped dieting, began eating more food, started exercising, and stopped depreving myself of certain foods. I was vegetarian so she helped me find a " way of eating " which would work for me...and it did. I was like you though. I tried every diet and was sick of " counting " this and " counting " that. I wanted to just be able to eat like a " normal " person. If your insurance doesn't pay for you to see a dietician, you should be able to see one at your local health department for next to nothing. That's what I did. Then when I moved to another city to transfer to U of L, I went to the local hospital for indigent people and saw the dietician there. They were so wonderful!!! Take care, and good luck!! Guest guest
Carolyne. I would have to say that this book helped me the most. Its small, simple and FULL of information that you can actually understand. After reading it all made sense to me. Here is a small exerpt for you. The Agricultural revolution and the adoption of cereal grains as staple foods allowed us to abandon forever our previous hunter-gatherer lifestyle, and caused the earth's population to baloon and develop into the vast industrial technological society in which we live today. The problem with this, is that we are genetically adapted to eat what the hunter-gatherers ate. Many of our health problems today are the direct result of what we do--and do--not eat. This book will show you where we went wrong, how the standard American diet and even today's so called healthy diets wreak havoc with our Stone Age constitutions. It will also show you how you can lose weight and regain health and well-being by eating the way our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate...the diet that nature intended. I urge you to check this out, you can purchase it from Amazon for about 15.00 bucks. or go to your local library. It is called " The Paleo diet " by Loren Cordain, Ph.D I know this will be very helpful to you! Chriss.
Guest guest
I would simply try eliminating some carbs. If you have a cup of pasta cut it to 3/4 cup. It all adds up. The less insulin our bodies have to release, the less fat will be stored. ----Original Message Follows---- From: " carolyneswanson " <carolyneswanson@...> Reply-hypothyroidism hypothyroidism Subject: weightloss Date: Wed, 03 Dec 2003 19:10:35 -0000 I'm wondering if i'm ever going to lose weight. i do weight watchers and excersise 40min every day, i'm 35, and people say i'm just getting old. my tsh was an 8 in sept. i've been on 0.137 synthyroid and last week my doctor upped it to 0.150 as i felt horrible. i'm newly married and would like to have a baby but i don't want to get pregnant with 20lbs extra weight already on. can someone give me a diet that will work for me. i don't want to get technical, i don't understand all the medium chain fatty acids and the long chain fatty acids, carbs this, carbs that. something SIMPLE please if anyone knows of any simple weight loss plans _________________________________________________________________ Tired of slow downloads and busy signals? Guest guest
It is HARD to lose weight if you are hypothyroid. Even when you are medicated, it is still much harder than it will be for people with normal thyroids. Adding to the frustration are all the people who don't understand this and will accuse you of cheating and etc. Ironically, many of these people will be people who have those magic metabolisms that allow them to eat anything they want. Accidents of birth apparently make people experts on eating. The best thing that has ever worked for me has been a low carbohydrate diet. I still lose slowly, but I lose twice as fast as on a low-calorie diet that allows lots of carbohydrates. An added bonus is that you can make it a lifestyle and not worry about starving yourself. On a 1200 calorie diet with less than 15 grams of fat a day, working out 5-7 days a week with cardio and weights, I managed to lose 6 pounds in a year (and I did not lose any clothing sizes). On Atkins, I have lost 20 pounds in a year, and over 14 inches. This is still not great by most standards, but half a pound a week is better than half a pound a month. carolyneswanson <carolyneswanson@...> wrote: I'm wondering if i'm ever going to lose weight. i do weight watchers and excersise 40min every day, i'm 35, and people say i'm just getting old. my tsh was an 8 in sept. i've been on 0.137 synthyroid and last week my doctor upped it to 0.150 as i felt horrible. i'm newly married and would like to have a baby but i don't want to get pregnant with 20lbs extra weight already on. can someone give me a diet that will work for me. i don't want to get technical, i don't understand all the medium chain fatty acids and the long chain fatty acids, carbs this, carbs that. something SIMPLE please if anyone knows of any simple weight loss plans

Guest guest
I can't say this is gonna work for you, but here is what works for me: Moderate fat, moderate low-glycemic carb, high-protein. It is similar to The Zone, but with higher calories (the little blocks of protein and carb on it add up to be very little). I eat 6 times a day, always combining low-GI carb, protein, and a bit of fat. For the last 5lb or so, I cut out the carb from meals 5 and 6. No sugar, no white anything, no processed foods - clean food is essential. I eat fruit but for the last 5lb or so, only berries and grapefruit. It is worth giving it a try - it is similar to what Shomon says works for her, Dr. Bob Arnot's diet. Guest guest
Hi, Carolyne: This isn't a testimony, just a recommendation for you to research. I have just started to lose weight after hanging on to 20 extra pounds for 3 years by adding VCO (Virgin coconut oil) to my diet. (I have a feeling that my thyroid is not functioning to its highest level, but I don't have any " numbers " to give you). My honey has also been successful with losing a few pounds in the first week. And we have both gained lots of energy. (I'm 41and he is 54.) The most curious thing I've witnessed in the past week with the VCO (even though this has nothing to do with thyroidism) is that my dog ripped some of the fur and flesh off of his leg--about a 3 inch by 1 inch area. I immediately rubbed some VCO on it and within 12 hours new fur had grown over it. From my experience with injuries such as this is that it should have taken a few days before any hair started growing over it. It was still a bit red looking under the new fur, but there was a full growth of new fur covering it. I'm new at this, but we are very excited about it. Some people feel that it does help with thyroid function; however, I can't attest to that. It is worth a quick read over at www.tropicaltraditions.com. There are a couple of books you can check out at that site, also. I've read " The Healing Miracles of Coconut Oil " which I thought was really good, and I've just started " Eat Fat Look Thin " both by Bruce Fife, N.D. There's also an e-list for it: coconut-info-subscribe . I'm sure others on this list have opinions about VCO, so maybe we'll read a more experienced opinion than mine. I originally read about it on Dr. Mercola's site www.mercola.com (as I'm a big fan of his). Take care, Bonnie ************************************************************* > Date: Wed, 03 Dec 2003 19:10:35 -0000 > From: " carolyneswanson " <carolyneswanson@...> > Subject: weightloss > > I'm wondering if i'm ever going to lose weight. i do weight watchers > and excersise 40min every day, i'm 35, and people say i'm just > getting old. my tsh was an 8 in sept. i've been on 0.137 > synthyroid and last week my doctor upped it to 0.150 as i felt > horrible. i'm newly married and would like to have a baby but i > don't want to get pregnant with 20lbs extra weight already on. > > can someone give me a diet that will work for me. i don't want to > get technical, i don't understand all the medium chain fatty acids > and the long chain fatty acids, carbs this, carbs that. something > SIMPLE please if anyone knows of any simple weight loss plans

Calorie restriction is not a good way to lose weight. It is a sure way to malnourish yourself though.
