Hello yateendragee

There is no doubt that the lining of the gut produces excess mucus to protect

itself against invaders or cerain foods that the person has become intolerant or

allergic to. It seems likely that this does harden but there is a lot of

controversy of it's existence. The gut of course is linked to the blood supply

but I suspect that the bowel cells make this mucus as a result of what is going

on locally in the gut and not due to circulating immune complexes in the rest of

the body.

Cells do however produce chemical messengers which can travel in the blood and

have an effect on cells in different parts, so it is a possibility but I doubt

that there is any research on the circulating immune complexes causing mucoid

plaque. These immune complexes can of course cause other problems as they

settle in other tissues and joints.

I have done numerous bowel cleanses myself and have expelled some hardened

matter. People who have had this experience will testify to the existence of

mucoid plaque. Other still insist it is merely the bentonite and psyllium.

Elaine Gottschall gives an excellent description in her book, Breaking the

Vicous Cycle, of what can happen in the gut as a result of antibotics, antacids,

poor diet, and decrease in stomach acid through aging. She describes how

excessive mucus is triggered by toxins from microbes, acids and incompletely

digested and unabsorbed carbohydrates. The mucus then prevents the food getting

in contact with the digestive enzymes in the gut wall so more undigested food is

left there to ferment. The fermentation produces acids which then cause further

damage to the gut. The whole thing is a huge subject and is very complex. There

is still a lot that is not fully understood about the bowel and the bowel flora.

I certainly believe that bowel cleansing is a good thing to do.

Gerd may be due to a number of factors and diet, digestion and timing of meals

can play a big part.

Good luck

's Term " immune complexes "

Dear Group:

I'm a newcomer here, though not entirely new to the subject.

I'd like to start with an obscure question which seems to bear on my situation

(which I'll explain later).

Quote from Dr. 's essay on mucoid plaque

(http://curezone.com/cleanse/bowel/bowel_dr_anderson.html):

" When the body has been chronically subjected to (or put under attack by)

[...list of factors...] [and] circulating immune complexes (immune cells locked

onto undigested particles or foreign substances in the bloodstream), it produces

mucoid plaque to protect itself.

In the context of the essay, and according to my overall understanding, I'm

concluding that, when undigested particles circulate in the bloodstream

(attracting immune cells) this causes the system to generate mucoid plaque *in

the colon.*

If this is a correct interpretation, then it may be difficult to judge whether

the presence of mucoid plaque (of what looks like recent origin) is due to

lingering (or undiscovered) parasites, or whether it is the result of unresolved

leaky gut syndrome.

To provide some context--yes, I've been doing psyllium/bentonite cleanses, and

have seen the above-described plaque. I had previously been diagnosed with two

parasites (using Diagnos-Techs lab), underwent antibiotic treatment, and the lab

followup showed them gone. The factor spurring the present cleansing is a

flareup of GERD.

I plan to provide more context later. For those who wish to respond to this

post, I regret that my time is extremely limited (due to being fulltime

caregiver for my mother, who will be 97 this month). I may therefore neglect to

interact with the responders as much as I'd like.

Thanks for your attention. :)
