Guest guest
Patti, I always keep a bottle of the acidophilus pills on hand because I have to take anti-biotics when I go to the dentist or when I get a flu or sinus infection. There is one anti-biotic in particular (can't remember the name) which is guaranteed to cause yeast infections. You're right, Yogurt contains the acidophilus bacteria and is very good for the intestinal tract in order to maintain the balance between the good guys and bad guys. I use the yogurt as a preventative and try to eat it regularly. (it's not my favorite thing) Unfortunately, at least in my own experience, once an infection takes hold in a compromised immune system, the results can be devastating, if not deadly. The drugs we take are so potent that our bodies simply can't fight off the infection without the help of a strong prescription drug. The higher the dose of immune suppressant drugs - the less defense the body has. I have seen people in the hospital die from simple bacterial and viral infections because the infection couldn't be controlled. That's why I feel it's important to get on top of these things immediately. I don't like it, but that's the way it is, and it scares the heck out of me. Barbara Ann AIH Transplant Recipient P.S. I hope your husband is still gaining weight and feeling well. My best to you and your family.
